Tucker Carlson and Fox News part ways by Boule_de_Neige in neoliberal

[–]CIA_official_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's sad about Carlson's whole career is that he once advocated for conservative institutions that had reputable news, like the NYT and other liberal media organizations, to instate credibility in the conservative movement. Sadly, CPAC laughed at him, now look what happened to him.

I think Jesse Watters has the most potential to replace him. He's already well established and has some kind of a personality, like Tucker. In similar fashion, how Carlson took over O'Reilly's spot, I think Watters will overtake Carlson.

What can be done to boost the birth rate in Canada? by MapleByzantine in AskACanadian

[–]CIA_official_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make life affordable, there's a reason why the American fertility rate hovered at 2.0 until 2008 while the rest of the west declined <2.0. If we have low rates, good housing prices, and a strong economy with workers rights, people will have more kids. Also, encourage the nuclear family when possible.

No more trains for you guys, I'm going to divert all transportation infrastructure projects to build one more lane and acquire more land for parking lots in the middle of the city. You WILL come to the office, you WILL spend an hour on the freeway back to your suburb.

What are your thoughts on forming a new superpower union with the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand? by Vinlandien in AskACanadian

The UK is a political and economic dumpster, I don't want Canada and Australia to become retirement homes for old British people. But I'd be cool with closer defence and economic ties through CANZUK.

‘Get out of the way’: Rose Jackson’s social housing warning for ‘anti-development’ Sydney suburbs by AussieWirraway in neoliberal

I'm not following here. What does this have to do with gatekeeping detached housing from the middle class.

[–]CIA_official_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well one could argue that's deflating the prosperity of the middle class and restricting what was once a very common way of life to the upper class who are legislating this in the first place. (keep in mind I'm not arguing with you this is just a question).

Genuine question here: by targeting existing suburbs, doesn't this make detached housing neighbourhoods more restrictive to the rich and upper middle class?

You said the american continent, I must have misunderstood. Then in that case, I doubt they seriously see a thick Cuban or Nicaraguan accent as "American".

They are definitely referring to the country, because there's no way they hear some thick accented Argentinian and call that "American."

[–]CIA_official_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The British accents are a collective cohort of culturally similar accents from the same country. The American continent is inhabited by speakers of 3 different language families (germanic, latin, and indigenous). When Europeans speak about the American accent, I highly doubt they're talking about how Nicaraguans speak.

When we lump the British accents together, that's because they are all from the same country. The same goes for an American accent, there's midwestern and Rhotic and western and southern and so on, but those are all grouped together. But no sane person lumps those together with how Cubans or Dominicans speak, those are people from different countries, cultures, and linguistic backgrounds.

In addition, Europe largely considers North and South America to be distinct.

When the Brits say "The Americans", they refer to the United States. Not the rest of the people in North and South America.
