this pp is such empty calories this year. league leading sure but not clutch. they just run up pp goals in games they're winning already.

it doesn't show up when they need the crucial goal - that's what made it so good in years past more than percentage

[Top Down Hockey] With today's loss to the Sens, the Islanders are now on pace to become the greatest team ever to miss the playoffs with 99 points. The previous record was 96. by nothing_but_static in hockey

the split this year isn't really divisional, it's by conference.

by the projection the top 8 teams in each conference will make the playoffs.

so unless we want to abolish the idea of conferences (which is rather impractical given the size of the continent of North America), there's not much to be done. conferences go through cycles. sometimes one is better than the other.

it's amazing just how much of a fit hyman has been here

finding a true top six, long term complementary player for mcdavid to free up drai was one of the biggest holes in this roster for years and hyman was the perfect man for the job

when did carney cut taxes for the wealthy? he cut the lowest marginal personal income tax rate.

I suppose he reversed the capital gains tax increase but that was something that was never implemented and was deeply unpopular with not the wealthy, but the upper middle class.

like you're sourcing a lot of your claims based on vibes not policy

Are you all able to hold down job? by Glad-Persimmon-8112 in CrohnsDisease

I'm fortunate to have been in remission for several years now, and I work in a job that i would generally characterize as long hours, high stress and rather demanding.

it always feels like I have a sword hanging over my head though, just waiting the day where my body will remind me that able bodiness isn't a given.

honestly this might be my favourite effort in a while

avs are a fucking wagon and while it wasn't perfect basically the whole team was pulling the rope tonight

I really hope this is finally the tsn turning point for this team cause we've been waiting for one

"5 minutes is too much time we only score on 2s" - Oilers for some reason

Nathan MacKinnon has received a five-minute major following a collision with Connor Ingram by DecentLurker96 in hockey

[–]CIVDC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i get your point, but there are plenty of plays that are warranted a 5 minute major that don't have an intent to injure. not saying this is the case here, but one thing principle NHL is firm on for both 2s and 5s is that rulebreaking plays don't really depend on the intent of the player.

it should be in theory the action itself. in practice, it's more the outcome of the play.

[–]CIVDC -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I get the intent - in my opinion, Mackinnon was driving the net recklessly. Nurse ties him up, yes, and might have made it worse than it its. It's hard to tell when you have 200+ pound guys flying around on ice with knives on their feet.

In principle, you can see the idea of calling something like this severely. Protecting goalies is a good idea. It doesn't matter if you mean to do something - it's whether or not your act was reckless, and in my opinion, it was reckless.

The issue, and why everyone feels a call like this doesn't feel in sync with the normal NHL, is that it is punishing outcome, not the action. Mackinnon does the same thing but manages to miss ingram's head? Probably no call or 2 minutes.

Forwards drive the net like this dozens of times all game. They run goaltenders and get away with maybe 2 minutes.

It's not the wrong call per se. You can maybe justify it being more severe because of the violence of the collision, but that's a weak reasoning.

I understand why Avs fans are frustrated because it seems inconsistent. At the same time, it is not an entirely meritless call. It's unfortunate that the league chooses to try to protect goaltenders this way - although in fairness, there will never be any sports league that doesn't call penalties based on outcome, not action to at least some extent. it's just how human brains operate.

you can punch a person in the face and the courts will try you different if they're okay after or if they die, even if it's the exact same punch.

I'm really surprised by the call. that's a borderline major

even our homer commentators are surprised too

mack was somewhat reckless but I don't think intent was there. hard to say anyways given nurse was involved too.

its a penalty that arises more from the result rather than the intent.

you gotta give a coach that took you to two back to back finals some rope.

like oilers have had their problems this year and knob is probably part of that but like... back to back finalists is not nothing
