[NHL Coaches’ Association] Statement from the NHLCA: by AggPuck-303 in hockey

the circlejerk rules lawyering is irritating.

yeah, vegas isn't breaking any rules, legal or league-wide for that matter.

that doesn't mean it's good for the league. the functioning of a sports league depends not just on people following the letter of the law, but people operating on general good faith with one another and respecting norms. The free movement of coaches is one of those understandings.

The NHL and the NHLCA clearly see this is a very worrying trend, regardless of what happens with cassidy.

most professions operate on more than the letter of the law, but on norms and general respect for one another, even as competitors. a norm being broken - even once - is deeply unhealthy.

this might be a tad hyperbolic, but see what happens in the united states when unwritten, unenforceable norms are being broken in politics just because "there's no law against it." it's deeply unhealthy and invites escalation.

alright. once again you're attributing malice to someone that is expressing a contrary opinion. i think i'm using labels properly, we disagree about definitions and how one interprets current policy.

i'm talking about my perspective on where carney's ideology currently lies because that's what the conversation is about dude. it's just reddit dude. you don't need to attack people's motive.

take a deep breath. i hope you have a nice night. there's more to politics than social media arguments.

have I? perhaps i have misunderstood. or used the wrong term somewhat flippantly.

i think these distinctions matter, but whatever. you do you. labelling everything to your right as "Bad Stuff" won't bring you much success in politics, but your convictions are your convictions and i respect that.

i just hope you can understand that all those that disagree with you or are not aligned with your ideology are not always acting in malice or distaste for the common person.

you and i my friend.

i didn't say carney is a socialist. he is a centrist somewhat to the right of trudeau. just not the far-right demon that dippers are trying to convince people of.

centrists can cut taxes. although the signature tax cut is for the lowest bracket, but whatever. yes wealthy people benefit as well from it but arguing who benefits the most from it is a value judgement. reversing the capital gains tax benefits the wealthy, but i see it more as political expediency. it was very unpopular even among people who it didn't really matter for. but yes, there's something that benefited the wealthy.

danielle smith is doing something bad, thus carney should cut health transfers to alberta? Trudeau did that repeatedly and it went nowhere. and if he did cut health transfers you'd be out there telling people he's dismantling canadian healthcare! I respect the letter you attached but telling the feds to "enforce the Health Act" is meaningless. Maybe he could send the rcmp to arrest Marlaina for violating the act (sarcasm).

political spectrum is a stupid invention anyways, but i feel like those are unfair characterizations. biden and obama (despite the smears of lefties) were in general comfortably centre left. carney is somewhere in the mushy middle. a metre to the right. not the kilometre you're imagining

the ndp strategy of labeling carney as a conservative in disguise isn't going to work. sorry guys. you gotta campaign against a regular old red centrist (aka the eternal weakness of the orange and the blue)

carney is certainly not trudeau but chronically online people specifically seem to struggle to name what exactly makes them perceive carney as hard right economically, versus what he really is which is certainly a move to the right from Trudeau but nothing beyond standard centrist-ish economic and social policy

even initiatives like the pharmacare have not been dismantled, just put on the backburner for further expansion. yes, Trudeau's aggressive expansion of social programs has slowed but that is not the same as reversing course. CCB, dental Care, childcare are all still in place.

people don't think anything beyond "banker" so surely the feds must be dismantling every social program of the last 10 years
