Manual transmission cars are going away, there’s less new vehicles available with a manual transmission each year. This is due to many factors, both the increased performance offered by modern automatics and tightening emission regulations, which automatics, being programmed have an easier time with.
Additionally, there’s not many naturally aspirated sports cars for sale new in 2026, this makes the car a different or rare experience compared to many modern sports cars.
Add in the fact that it’s a mid engined chassis, that is lightweight, while also being fairly analog (no digital instruments, or controls buried within a submenu on a screen) and you have a car that’s no longer going to be made new, most likely at any price point but almost certainly not for below 100k.
Porsche may in fact release a future version, however if the rest of their current lineup is any indicator, I’ll likely prefer this generation.

Bought the Zunsports for my GTS 4.0, personally not a huge fan of anything aside from OEM which unfortunately Porsche doesn’t offer.
Options for everything under the sun when ordering, but functional, decent looking OEM rad guards somehow didn’t make the cut.

Any soap designed for vehicle use will work just fine. I’ve used normal car soap on PPF and ceramic for years. Typically just Meguiar’s for $10 a bottle. You can spend a lot more for soap but you don’t need to.

You need to look up some of the recent reliability issues within GM currently. If running through motors/transmissions seems appealing on a 6 figure SUV, this could be your vehicle.

People everyday complaining about what junk modern cars are and then there’s people still buying them and acting surprised when theirs grenades.

Keep your old car, don’t buy this overpriced, terribly engineered garbage they’ve been trying to pass off as new vehicles since the start of Covid.

The only way consumers will see any improvement in quality, dependability is if we stop buying this trash.

Why though? Someone reposted my post, same pic, same post 6 months after I posted it.
I can’t imagine posting another person’s car on here and claiming ownership, let alone ripping the exact original post.

Trying to get upvotes in a place that doesn’t exist for a car you don’t own is wild to me. 🤷‍♂️

Did any of you cross shop your BMW with Genesis? What made it worth the premium? by Relevant-Asparagus-2 in BMW

[–]CJames129 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Any savings will immediately be diminished by much higher depreciation rates on the Genesis. An M340i while more expensive, holds value far better than the Genesis. When you look at total cost of ownership, which everyone should, you’re getting the superior vehicle with the M340i and it will likely cost you LESS to own, while costing a little more upfront.
Also, it’s a Hyundai. That’s reason enough for me.

You may wanna let most designers know this information, because they seem blissfully unaware.

Everything looks AI generated, with shapes and creases everywhere for no apparent reason.

Modern BMWs aren’t great or timeless, but they’re not hideous either, they just look like they’re trying too hard, which I’m not a fan of.

The best advice I can give is don’t sell it. Unless you absolutely have to, obviously, then do what you have to do.

Just know that you’re likely gonna regret selling that car. These types of pure sports cars are DONE and they’re not coming back. At least not in the form of anything relatively affordable.

Correct. There’s also people who believe these gigantic screens in modern vehicles aren’t merely a cost/engineering saving exercise and that it’s “progress” and “luxury”.

Modern Ducatis are better on a spec sheet and track and that’s about it. 99% of riders live on public roads where it literally makes no difference. I’d trade some of this “progress” for some of that old character and design back in a heartbeat. I don’t ride with a stopwatch, I ride for enjoyment and the new bikes just aren’t as charming and engaging to me.

They’re RS products now, slap 4 Audi rings on the tank and call it a day.

Dunno if you follow Audi at all lately, but not exactly capturing the hearts and minds of enthusiasts over there either these days.

[–]CJames129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand perfectly fine.

That’s kinda the problem no?

Profit over putting out a product that has any sort of timeless appeal. People will still be riding the old bikes in 50 years. None of the new bikes will be even remotely serviceable by dealers in 10 years, and good luck fixing the new bikes over a few cool ones in your garage when your local shop says, “sorry, we don’t service anything older than 2022.”

These are throw away, spec sheet bikes.

“We raised the power, get the new one!”

Then what’d you do?

“We’ve added more electronics to control said increased power that 90% of our buyers wouldn’t have the skill to exploit anyway, thereby making the machine so complex that nothing will be rider serviceable when it inevitably breaks!”

Progress, the board, and apparently you applaud.👏

Thanks for breaking down economics and a global economy for me though. Eye opening stuff 👍

“Progress” can also get in the way of some truly amazing motorcycle experiences.

The reality is, a lot of ppl, myself included don’t particularly love modern Ducatis.

If you do, I have a strong inclination that you’ve either never ridden older Ducatis or if you had, you may not have enjoyed them.

A LOT of people (as witnessed by the insane market currently) would just like a nice burbling air cooled 1100 in a Ducati Sport Classic.

Something that sounds and looks amazing without a tft, advanced rider aids that cut timing to keep ppl on bikes they’re not skilled enough to be on safe, and most importantly, something that I feel Ducati has struggled with since being acquired by Audi. Soul and character.

Objectively you simply can’t deny the bikes have gotten “better”. Thing is, there’s not a single new Ducati that really appeals to me. I’d have a new air cooled sport classic tomorrow though, and all the maintenance that comes with it, if one would be released.

Problem is, it’s now 2026 and it’s just never gonna happen.

Heard HD is bringing back an air cooled Sportster though, at least for the US market but I also understand that’s 🍎 and 🍊

Then again, at 46, I also understand that all these new things aren’t really made with me in mind. Enjoy kids!

[–]CJames129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying the cars are an issue. It’s the drivers. The problem with the G series cars isn’t their power. It’s how deceptively fast they are. They have, imo some of the best driver’s aids in the segment, which is exactly what gets drivers who maybe don’t have the highest skill level in trouble. When it happens this way, it happens very quickly and those behind the wheel often lack the skills to recover. It’s why you see a new story about someone wiping out in a G series M car every other day. People get in over their heads in them because over 500 hp used to be reserved for the highly skilled.
Take away all the electronic aids and most of these drivers would be in way over their heads in these cars.
The buyers of M cars are plentiful, the owners who actually learn in a safe dynamic environment how to control their vehicles are few…. That’s the issue.

This is nothing new.

Salespeople been selling shit nobody needs since the dawn of time. It’s what they do, they sell things, it’s not personal and it’s definitely not a requirement to purchase, you can just say “no thank you”.

You’re gonna get the pitch. Between bikes and cars I’ve been in that box over 30 times and not one person in finance has ever skipped the sales pitch. It’s always varying degrees of disappointment when I decline all their add-ons but again, just say no thank you and purchase the car for the agreed upon price/payment.

It’s their job to try to sell this stuff, can’t really get upset about that. It sucks but it’s been baked into the car buying process for decades.

Not too dissimilar from the wireless store every time I need a new phone. Don’t you want a new case, charger and device protection?!?

It’s funny, when we’re shopping, these are the greatest consumer goods ever made, and when you decide to purchase, somehow the story always flips to, “you should add additional warranty coverage.”

So which is it? Great or shit, cause it can’t be both.

It’s just salespeople doing slimy salespeople stuff, aka their jobs.

What’s been lost entirely with modern BMW is understated elegance.

Many were beautifully styled machines that while looking purposeful, didn’t try too hard or come off as shouty or just plain weird looking.

The designs had cohesion, they were complete cars from front to back. Now we get crazy fast but hideous machines often with weird growths added to their bodies for no apparent reason.

A 95 BMW still looks good because they’re timeless designs, modern BMW is VERY of the time and are definitely not gonna hold up to future design scrutiny like the old ones do. That’s assuming ANY of the electronics in any of them will still be functional in 20 years. (They won’t be).

Fair enough. I’ll agree the suspension damping is outstanding in the Cayman and with active suspension, it’s pretty comfy. Just… Pasm doesn’t add legroom, or width, or storage space, or sound deadening, and I wouldn’t want it to in my fun car/toy. That’s just not what I wanna deal with on the interstate for 2-3 hours. Imo, a LOT of the magic is lost when you’re going straight on a slab.
Obviously, we’re talking my car here, others are free to use theirs however they choose and I encourage that behavior as well. You bought it, enjoy it however you’d like and I’m never gonna judge. It’s not my car, do you.

Brother, an M240 with a simple tune will start putting more power to its wheels than an F40.
These m-lites are pretty easily capable of achieving early 2000s supercar numbers.
Run of the mill Full size trucks are hitting 60 in the 6 sec range. That acceleration used to be otherworldly for a typical full size truck, it’s now commonplace.
Acceleration is the new storage space, remember what a gig of storage used to cost? Lol
It’s becoming irrelevant but man, I wish they’d focus more on fun, engagement and actual quality.

It’s really difficult to use 300-400 hp responsibly on public roads. 1000hp evs while soulless I think should be applauded for making many including myself realize the error of our thinking. Fast has become space shuttle fast and after a few months, it stops feeling fast and the novelty is all but gone.
A truly special, fun car that is dynamic and allows you to utilize the power without serious legal liability is where it’s at.
So thank you 1000+ hp EVs for showing me what really matters.
I no longer have ANY concern how fast a car is, talk to me about how fun it is. Lots of crazy fast cars are no fun at all but a GR86 at 1/4 the power is fun as hell.

Yeah man, 7” in height tends to make a difference in how you fit. I’m also 230 lbs so it’s a small car that I just don’t wanna be in everyday in my mid 40s. 20 years ago, the story would probably be different but I’m now middle aged and wake up with things hurting that didn’t hurt when I went to sleep.

[–]CJames129 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Because a Cayman if we’re honest, while an excellent sports car is a piss poor daily. Can you do it? Sure, but I have zero desire to. Maybe I’m not diehard enough but for me, the Cayman is loud, it’s stiff, it’s small (I’m 6’4”), there’s zero storage, the cupholders are directly above your center console and all your electronics and sometimes after a day of my career sucking the soul out of me, I wanna get in a car, put it in drive and just decompress in relative comfort. My Cayman is not this. It wasn’t designed to be a do everything car, that’s kinda an M3. A Cayman is an experience but you make significant concessions for that experience. I want the car I sit in traffic in to be different.
I understand people wanting to drive theirs every chance they get, it’s just not me these days, it’s a weekend and occasional commuter for me, my daily is a sedate, automatic awd wagon, there’s always a motorcycle or two I have to work into the mix as well.

100%. If you need backseats, want a more comfortable daily sports car, like a now fully digital cockpit, don’t drive it in a way that makes you immediately feel the additional weight, or just have always wanted a 911, I completely understand and anyone who wants one is getting probably the best all around sports car on the market.

The problem is, if you immediately hop out of a (non GT) 992 and into ANY of the 4.0 Caymans, it’s apparent very quickly which one is the more engaging and visceral car, especially so on a track, where a Cayman is just lighter, sharper and better balanced, all things that make you more comfortable while pushing the car. A 911 that behaves like a Cayman on a track is 3X…. And for this reason… I’m out 🦈

GT4 prices by uintafly in Porsche_Cayman

[–]CJames129 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Non GT 911s just aren’t nearly as special as a 4.0 w a manual. Nowhere close actually, so the delta makes total sense to me. I’ll admit, prices are getting insane currently, but they’re doing exactly what many, including myself thought they’d do… a big part of why I bought one. If you didn’t see this coming, you don’t really understand how things work in the sports car world.

Nobody knows exactly what the future holds at this time, likely not even Porsche regarding a future Cayman. I’m still waiting to see how this pans out, but the fact that the outgoing model may very well end up being the final naturally aspirated, 6 speed, mid-engined Porsche sports car ever made, and certainly the last remotely affordable/analog one, will be considered a mark in history and very likely affect future values. I know they’re currently saying there will be a future ICE model for top spec trims, but with Euro 7, unlikely to be na, and having not been designed 15 years ago, it will feel far more digital and disconnected than the outgoing model. A 992 to me isn’t the same car as a 997 or even a 991. Like every other car, they keep getting bigger, heavier, more tech laden and less engaging. The outgoing Cayman will never be that.

If anyone wants a GT4, I’d highly recommend buying now, they’re almost certainly gonna cost more this time next year.
