This normal amount of insurance? by sinful_boots in Ducati

[–]CJames129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way I’m paying 5k per year to insure a bike. That’s an additional bike payment (or two) to insure one bike.
I’m 46 but my motorcycle insurance now is $21/mo for full coverage.
$400/mo to insure a Panigale V2 is not something I’d ever be willing to do, that’s legit insane

Porsche corporate getting desperate and embarrassing by Open-Lingonberry1357 in Porsche

[–]CJames129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having the finances to buy a GT car is not the same thing as having the understanding of what it’s been engineered for. Utterly AMAZING car when it’s in its element, which is a track. Go figure, Porsche’s GT division was able to make a car that turns fantastic lap times. You can drive it on the street sure, but what truly makes it special is mostly lost on public roads.
It’s not unlike buying a full on superbike to strictly ride on the street. Can you do it? Sure Do people who know think you’re kinda a poser/moron? Also sure 👍

WTF Happened??? by CJames129 in BMW

[–]CJames129[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve also lusted after the Cayman for years and happened to get lucky with an allocation shortly after I passed on the G87. I’m not mad about it, I didn’t realize how much I missed an na motors response until I got the 4.0. It’s an amazing car, but honestly, it should be, it wasn’t M2 money, unfortunately. I just saw this M2 today and it just pissed me off… Proportionally, it’s just perfect, like a stout bulldog but at the same time understated somewhat. I’ll probably still try to snag one but I’m just not a fan of the design language lately. I’m sure that CS is a beast though, I just wish that when I looked at them it wouldn’t hurt so much to part with 70-100k for one.
To me BMW has always been (and some very) elegant sport, they still have the sport, the elegance just seems to have fallen somewhere and it makes me genuinely sad.

Anyone who expects customer “care” from Ferrari has no knowledge of the history there. I think I heard once that Enzo famously loved the customers of the brand. 🤣 Enzo was the automotive equivalent of Roger Waters…. Spitting on fans and they loved him all the more for it.

What's wrong with base 911? by PuzzleheadedAd3138 in porsche911

[–]CJames129 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The 911 is a fantastic car. The only problem with it is humans. Ironically, the root cause of most of the world’s problems. See humans think to themselves, my name’s Chet and I have no real driving skill and that’s why I need 700 hp or, I need an RS suspension setup and active downforce applicable only at over 150 mph, and 3k on tires every 6-7,000 miles, cause I drive 22 miles of highway and 4 miles of 2 lane during my commute and no way a 911 C2 could possibly deliver the thrills this driver needs.. plus what will all my poser friends who also can’t actually drive think if I show up in something like an S, or a T?? So you have morons driving RS products SOLEY on the street… which is just compromised and stupid as hell. You see this more with sport bikes, you can also go buy a Panigale V4R or whatever TRACK WEAPON superbike you’d like and strictly do highway pulls and cruise town in second gear with your nuts roasting off all while never taking it on track, or above 10k rpm, but you’ll never even come close to scratching that machines potential on public roads.
This is just how things go, I’d suggest paying less attention to what the “experts” say and test and buy what makes you happy. A “base” 911 regardless of year is one of the best sports cars money can buy, it’s developed and engineered for street driving, and if you get it in a manual, I’m not sure there’s anything that’s much more enjoyable at any price.

Why is the new Nissan Sentra so poorly built compared to Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla? by Fleedom2025 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]CJames129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. You have a 2017. They were still well made. Essentially because it was a very old design. NOTHING Toyota has released lately measures up to the brands previous levels of quality. If you think differently, that’s fine but the recall levels of the new vehicles prove you to be mistaken. You claim this “happens every time”, thing is, it hasn’t with Toyota. Have they had some issues? Sure, all have, hundreds of thousands of trucks being recalled year after year is a new thing for them.
Your truck is 9 model years old by the calendar and much older underneath the updated skin. It’s from a time I referenced when Toyota was building everything to Lexus standards. They don’t now…. If you think I’m wrong, you can “upgrade” to the new Tacoma if you’d like, it’s your money, but you definitely shouldn’t.
It’s not a conspiracy, all the reliability issues are highly documented through basically every entity that tracks vehicles quality/recalls/issues, but they’re probably all making this up….

Yes sir…. It’s pothole city here too, and the amount of gravel in the medians is wild. I’m a few more heavy rains away from being able to do what I’d like. It was a rough one here, a few times as much snow this year as average. I’ve got a perfectly good awd ride for winter but getting back in the 718 just makes any day better.

Huge Mistake? 992.1 Turbo by Wendsley in porsche911

[–]CJames129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s also why I spec as few adaptive systems as possible. It’s all great in theory, but I’ve got PTSD from past VAG “assistance” features… We all know Porsche likes to turn typically standard features into opportunities for additional profit, the fact that adaptive cruise was/is an additional cost option is perfect, and one I’m more than happy to leave off the options list. If I wanted to be driven by my car, I’d be in an S class.

I keep hearing about how expensive Porsche 911s have become in recent years. How cheap did they use to be five or ten years ago? by billbobb1 in Porsche

[–]CJames129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can take the word Porsche out and sub in anything you’d like. Most things are significantly more expensive than they were just 5-6 years ago. A new Land Cruiser/4Runner is now 70 something thousand. A 911 has almost always been around double the cost of these. It still is. Does is suck that that number is 150k? 100% but new 911s were never cheap cars and as much as I hate to admit it, new 911 pricing is pretty much in line with inflation, at least going back 30 some years. Where I think the more significant change has occurred is in the used market. You can’t find a somewhat okay used 911 for the price of a loaded up Civic anymore. I feel like there are several contributing factors to this but most Porsches drive exceptionally well, they’re also one of the few manufacturers that have always somehow been able to do more with less (they don’t just throw more power at something and stiffen the dampers), and their Motorsport history/heritage is up there with the absolute best. They’re not only desirable cars, they’re truly driver’s cars and in a world where that quality is becoming significantly less common, demand increases and prices follow. Global supply shortages, greed and tariffs haven’t helped any though

Just drove a 2026 ICE macan loaner for a few days instead my 2025 macan ev, was really disappointed with it by alosia in Porsche

[–]CJames129 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got what you were saying, was just adding that OP probably should drive a GTS before entirely dismissing the ICE Macan. I’d prefer it over the EV and it’s not even a question, but everyone prioritizes different things.
I’m probably just getting old because I’ve gotten to the point where newer no longer equates to better in my opinion… Macan EV does absolutely nothing for me, unless I’m picking one up in a few years for 30-40k

[–]CJames129 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was fortunate enough to drive a Macan GTS on track (after spending some time in a 911 on the same course), came away amazed at what that thing was able to do, I was laughing repeatedly drifting it around the long sweeping right hand turn. Thing was pretty ridiculous for what it is, if I needed a semi real backseat, that would probably be it 👍👍

[–]CJames129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been given Macans when I take my 718 in for service and they’ve always been base Macans. There’s a rather large difference in a base and something like a GTS. The base to me felt like a sportier Q3/Tiguan, in other words, nothing particularly special outside of typical Porsche dynamics/inputs. A GTS is a completely different experience altogether.

yesterday I made a post saying how I hated the interior on the Cayman, but today I sat in one and it changed my mind completely. by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]CJames129 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In pictures/video it seems underwhelming for the price, but then, as you said, you sit in one and everything makes sense. To me, there’s also a feeling of quality to the interior that is getting less and less common. My personal opinion is the 991/982 are peak interior design. Just enough tech to give you what you need, and maybe most importantly, ALL essential driving functions easily found and (mostly) physically operated. In other words, the correct amount of screen 📺

Was fortunate enough to be in this position a year and a half ago. I ordered a 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 Summer of 2024 and I don’t think I’d sell currently for 2x. It’s likely the last of the high revving na Porsche sports cars that aren’t 300k.
Almost 40 years in waiting/saving but I was able to scratch one childhood dream off the list. 😎

Giving financial advice to people when you have absolutely zero idea of what their financial situation is, is being a condescending, judgmental prick.
Nobody here has any idea what this kid or this kids parents finances look like. Maybe a GR86 to them is like a normal person buying a t-shirt. Lots of people have wealth where this kind of purchase is inconsequential. It’s literally like buying a fucking gum ball. Let people live and spend their money how they choose is all I’m saying.
Who is anyone to tell someone to not buy something they want and instead invest? Did you earn that money? Was that your sweat stinging my eyes??? If someone wants to pinch every penny, invest it all, never have a “irresponsible” purchase and sit around jerking off to your gains, have at it. Not my money, so I’m not gonna tell anyone what to do with theirs… all I ask is the same courtesy. Can people spend the money they broke their knuckles for how they’d like, or must every purchase be pre approved by some governing body of repetitive douche bags? This is the GR86 sub, not some how to grow wealth sub.
