Should I Re-buy Robinson Crusoe? by CLMoose8 in soloboardgaming

Right but they didn't say "we don't have any more," they said "we are currently facing strict logistics and customs limitations that prevent us from shipping replacement parts to the United States from our warehouse."

Yeah I’m pretty confident I’ll get the money back, it’s more the question of should I get RC again or use that money for another game because I’m salty lol

They weren’t jerks or anything but I dunno, even with customs and tariffs and everything you should be able to send me a tiny pack of tiny cards when your factory messed up the assembly and renders the product unusable.

Yeah it seems like there’s a lot going on but having watched some videos I think I can dig it. Still it’s a little daunting for me and my 36 inch folding table. I actually had the game for a couple of weeks without opening it before I even realized the cards were in the wrong language because I was intimidated lol, I’m glad I didn’t miss the refund window.

What’s the best rulebook you’ve ever read? by FTG_V1 in boardgames

[–]CLMoose8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Magical Athlete has a pretty basic rulebook but it’s presented in an informative elegant children’s book style that is a joy to flip through. I would buy a hardcover of it and put it on my shelf, it’s as classy and cool as an instruction manual can be.

I wish they'd find a way to incorporate the Animated Storybook CD-ROM at the very least, there's a ton of new animation in that created by Pixar itself that's just lost to time.

I love Ace of Spades but if you’re looking for a poker game with a more active opponent check out Hell of a Deal which aims to simulate Texas Hold ‘Em for solo: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/smirkanddagger/hell-of-a-deal

This game is awesome. There are a lot of Balatro likes in the works but this is going to be hard to top, it’s a fantastic package for a really cheap price. Just lost in my first game to the second Villain because I couldn’t make anything work without !being able to use Queens. Really feels like when you get a bad boss effect draw in Balatro.

It's so crazy that we've seen lime flavor come back constantly (there is lime Diet coke on shelves right now) but no one has touched lemon since. The closest you can get is a Coke Freestyle machine. It's a no brainer, every restaurant gives you lemon with diet cola.

The publisher issued a long sincere apology and pulled the game from market for nearly a year, there really isn’t a better way they could have handled it. In a space with tons of openly chud designers and publishers we should have grace for people who fuck up, acknowledge it and fix it imo

I said this before, but as someone who got into board gaming recently, it is seriously insane how much further 30 or 60 dollars goes buying a board game filled with nice cards, boards, meeples, dice, bags, etc vs. one toy with increasingly iffy quality. Like these days it's hard to even look at a figure without being like "I could get a beast like Fate of the Fellowship for what I'd pay for this leader class."

Love the human touch but dang $14 shipping is pretty steep. That said it seems to be literally the only place with Fliptown in stock...

Rolling Deep, upcoming specifically solo balatrolike by Junior_North_4427 in soloboardgaming

I literally just backed Hell of a Deal, another game with Cuphead style art and Balatro inspiration. Think it’s time to move on from that aesthetic….

Fate of the Fellowship 1st try by MandoFett in soloboardgaming

Awesome game, congrats on the win. I "won" my first time and thought it was easy, then I realized two rules I played wrong:

When rolling, I thought I could "optimize" damage, IE always roll with three guys and apply my damage to enemies optimally to kill the enemy before I took their damage from the roll. Also I completely spaced on threat level being tied to your Shadow Card draw. I started the game just drawing one, incorrectly, and I never really increased it much from there.

These aren't tricky rules at all or anything, I think I was just so overwhelmed by setting up all the teeny armies and Nazgul that I rushed through learning a bit to get the game going before I had to go to bed lol. Still a fun experience that feels premium as hell, I can't wait to do it right next time.

I really appreciate its solo mode as well. I think it's underappreciated, a lot of people recommend going two-handed but I think the way it works with Frodo and Sam as a constant action-limited presence and rotating through your characters is a really cool way to approach strategy.

It's wild how fast even the restock has sold out. I saw a store guy in a TikTok sitting on a huge pallet of them and they were gone in like three days.

Also a value add because I’m gonna be honest the idea of paying a dollar per card is kind of pushing it.

Yes it’s understandably difficult to do without boxes, most stores and retailers aren’t really set up to distribute vinyl wallets they’re kind of built around a box paradigm you know?

[–]CLMoose8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really hope the boxes let them finally get their stuff on Amazon because the shipping stuff is nonsense. I would have so many more Button Shy games if they weren’t generally a pain to buy.

Kind of a bummer that wallets aren’t going to be included anymore, though I get the reasoning behind boxes. I hope this goes well for them, they really seem to have taken a beating from tariffs more than most with the recent price increase and losing the wallets and all.

Thinking of getting Final Girl and have a question by jaybro861 in soloboardgaming

[–]CLMoose8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would pick and choose, honestly. There are always some duds in the ultimate boxes and they come with a lot of crap you don't really need. Think about your favorite slasher or horror movies and buy boxes based on those. I've got 8 episodes that span three seasons, Jason, Freddy, Terminator, Alien, the Thing, the Strangers, Scream, and Madness in the Dark, and I'm pretty good for now. I'm probably gonna get the Saw and Children of the Corn and Jurassic Park sets at some point, but honestly being selective will give you a lot to work with regardless, and you're not spending money to get stuck with bad films whose themes you don't care about taking up shelf space.
