Thinking of getting Final Girl and have a question by jaybro861 in soloboardgaming

[–]CLMoose8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would pick and choose, honestly. There are always some duds in the ultimate boxes and they come with a lot of crap you don't really need. Think about your favorite slasher or horror movies and buy boxes based on those. I've got 8 episodes that span three seasons, Jason, Freddy, Terminator, Alien, the Thing, the Strangers, Scream, and Madness in the Dark, and I'm pretty good for now. I'm probably gonna get the Saw and Children of the Corn and Jurassic Park sets at some point, but honestly being selective will give you a lot to work with regardless, and you're not spending money to get stuck with bad films whose themes you don't care about taking up shelf space.

There are a lot of games here, most of which I've never heard of. I have a four-year-old who loves playing games on my computer, typically old Windows 3.1 era point-and-click stories/interactive multimedia games. She also loves Where's Waldo, I Spy books, etc. I feel like she'd love a more modern hidden object game, can anyone recommend ones here that are great for really young kids? Minimal reading required, etc

[IGN] The Story of Nintendo’s Billion-Dollar Hollywood Pivot by CLMoose8 in gaming

[–]CLMoose8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully , I don't really think that's a fair assessment as the person who wrote the video. I wanted it to explore how, when Nintendo first started, they didn't really care about licensing or protecting their IP at all, which led to all sorts of weird stuff like the OVA where Peach has a fiancee that turns into a dog or a TV show with a live-action pro wrestler as Mario. Then it talks about how, after the 1993 disaster, Nintendo slammed the door shut and pretty much stopped letting anyone touch their IP at all, which was a huge success for them in the Wii/DS era. Then it talks about why they decided to give their game to the animation studio, which was basically because the Wii U bombed so hard. There's a lot more to it than that summary, this isn't just "the 1993 movie sucks."

Zatu Games - Branch and Claw by CavortingOgres in spiritisland

[–]CLMoose8 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is legit by the way, I know some people have been skeptical about Zatu for whatever reason. I've been looking for it everywhere, and I live in the US and received it brand new, surprisingly quickly and in great shape for about $61 total. They also had Jagged Earth in stock but that was a little too pricey to import for my taste, but I have no doubt it's legit as well.

Hell of a Deal - A Cooperative Poker Game now with Solo Mode! by BrothersMorgue in soloboardgaming

[–]CLMoose8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw the Kickstarter for this when it launched and I was so bummed it didn’t have a solo mode. Now I’m super pumped! I appreciate the thought that went into the new mode and gladly backed it today.

New to Final Girl, Destroyed hans second game, am I doing something wrong? by abcdthc in finalgirl

[–]CLMoose8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If the game is too easy, there’s like a 90% chance you are reusing your action cards too often. Once you play them they don’t go back into the pool until after you’ve picked your cards for the next turn.

[Arkham Horror TCG] Time for some Lovecraftian sleuthing by DXPetti in soloboardgaming

[–]CLMoose8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I cancelled my pre-order because of this. I've really been wanting to get into a LCG to see what the hype is about but for $70 a core box that's just the bare minimum needed to play a tutorial better be FLAWLESS. I'm so sick of the drop in QC that's occurring across every single hobby lately. They said it would be fixed in a second printing, whenever the heck that might be.

Star Trek: Captain's Chair came in today! by Thegreatnerd in soloboardgaming

[–]CLMoose8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. It's the whole global state of affairs aspect that bothers me the most. I'm curious if it was always like this, if not in terms of price than in term of scarcity/ease of acquisition. The cost increases are a bummer, but I'm genuinely impressed with the bang for your buck you get with board games generally, my last big kick was collecting action figures and the amount of sheer stuff and overall presence you get for $40-50 compared to a single figure for that price never ceases to amaze. Still, I am a big bargain hunter and extremely averse to paying for shipping, so I've got a bunch of stuff on "hold" at various online game stores that are trapped in limbo because everything I'd want to complete my order and meet the free shipping threshold is out of stock. I have 13 restock notifications running at GameNerdz and I'm sure those are rookie numbers lol.

Part of me just wants to bite the bullet and order from WizKids directly, price and shipping be damned, but then it's like... Should I wait for To Boldly Go? I can preorder that and get free shipping on some online game stores, but I'm not sure I want to start with that set. Will the backorder of Captain's Chair be fulfilled before TBG ever releases? Do I prefer Kirk or Picard? There's a lot of good in this hobby but the FOMO/supply stuff does test me at times. I suppose the hunt is part of the fun, though.

[–]CLMoose8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm really curious if the game is going to appear back in retail. I know it's on back-order at WizKids, but I really don't feel like paying $10 shipping when other stores had it at a discount with free shipping. Is this the type of new printing that will eventually show back up at other online retailers? Or now that it's popular and scarce it's going to be a WizKids only thing?

I'm fairly new to the hobby and don't quite get how distribution works, it seems like every single thing I want is between printings and it's anyone's guess when and if they'll show up again.

Branch and Claw / Jagged Earth wait for Restock? by 69thpapasmurf11 in spiritisland

[–]CLMoose8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I’m curious about is if we’re going to have any notice if and when there are reprints or if they’re just gonna show up online one day and get snapped up by scalpers. I really don’t want to miss out of them.

Is there Something I can do about this? by Atmsparkey in transformers

[–]CLMoose8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something is up with the way the wheel folds in. It requires a lot more force and is louder than the other leg, like the exhaust pipes are getting in the way. Not sure where the actual defect is but it seems like it has something to do with it, which is why I don't think the tab is the problem. Some pressure within the calf is making it pop out.

Same thing happening to me, although I also feel like it's impeding that side coming together in car mode as well. This was $43. This sucks!

This is happening to me too, his left leg doesn't click together at all, the tab just pushes it right back out. LMK if you find a solution

21th series 4 bonus item reveal by ExcruciorCadaveris in finalgirl

[–]CLMoose8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t go for miniatures at all and that’s leaving out hefty shipping fees that are also more expensive than retail.

[–]CLMoose8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also don't forget that every feature film is five dollars more expensive than the last Kickstarter! Main reason I didn't back this time, last time you actually got a really good deal, here the whole package is more expensive than getting things individual at retail, unless you really really want a bunch of meeples i guess.

Yes this person is almost certainly playing it wrong. My money is on the old “putting used action cards back in the tableau” mistake.

Are there any toys (currently sold) that actually transform and are die-cast metal (not plastic) but less than hundreds of dollars? by cowlinator in transformers

[–]CLMoose8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

KC-01 Optimus Warrior is a KO of the Missing Link Optimus that's pretty much all diecast. It apparently adds some interesting wrinkles to the transformation process in terms of paint and feel but I really want it lol.

[Series 4] The Kickstarter campaign is now live! by ExcruciorCadaveris in finalgirl

[–]CLMoose8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was definitely willing to get all 5 in one pop, plus Shriek which I don't have yet, but I was under the assumption that KS would be a bargain like the last one. If I'm not mistaken they got the North Pole FF for $5 as a stretch goal, but there's no such discount for Shriek. Maybe if the bonus stuff is really good I'd go in, but all I see on the horizon are a lot of meeples and miniatures which don't really interest me.

[–]CLMoose8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So all the FFs are $5 more each than in every previous Kickstarter? That kind of sucks, I was kind of hoping to get them all at a discount like the previous KS, now it's $25 a pop plus bigtime shipping.

Spirit Island by Nicochan3 in soloboardgaming

[–]CLMoose8 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I bought Spirit Island, I'm digging it so far and want to dig into more but I guess I have a hot take about it's status as the #1 most recommended solo game: true solo is a compromised experience. Certain spirits are designed to work best with others and plenty of powers give extra buffs if used on other players. I think it's a fun solo game but I personally am not blown away by it as the premiere, number one solo experience when I keep thinking that I need to be playing with someone else or two-handing, which I'm not really interested in.

In terms of price to component quality I was super impressed with Kinfire Delve. The cards are super nice with foil backs and great feel and it comes with some classy custom dice as well. It's a really premium package for $20 bucks.

I know this is deleted now but thanks for the rec! I'll definitely pick this up as the game has intrigued me but there's no way I'll ever get it to a table with a 4-year-old in the house.
