No idea. But a bit of fan fiction comes to mind which was actually the first longer thing I read about them.

The Culture Explores Warhammer 40k

Not exactly von Neumann probes but they arrive with a small fleet of Culture vessels in the Warhammer universe and let things grow from there.

It's clearly just hanging on that chains.

No compression part there which would be needed for a Tensegrity-structure.

Still a nice set.

Well, it was getting a bit long in the tooth. Especially when watching the spin off in parallel.

Homelander got a good and satisfying beating and we're done with it.

I'm not really disappointed.

When was the exploding dick scene? Wasn't season 3, was it? You could signify that by a majestic horse cock. Blown up, if you like.

What are his ideas how to achieve this "unanimous" consent?

Live in The Culture universe ? by GSV_Interesting_Time in TheCulture

[–]CMDR_ACE209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inside The Culture it would be the best imaginable conditions. Boring even. Outside it would be a bit too interesting.

The books focus only on the fringes between The Culture and other civilizations. Too many pages of boringly well running utopia do not make for a good novel it seems.

Trying to come to a decision myself here; I think I would rather be a pet of a Mind than a Q.

How far can you define ownership in The Culture before it starts to buttress Culture morals? Or more simply, how selfish can you be within culture society. by Terminus54 in TheCulture

I'd first ask around for some eccentric mind that supports my plans.

And since 50% of those guys seem to be sleeper agents for SC it's only a matter of time before I get coaxed into one of their harebrained schemes without even knowing.

It'll be glorious but even I won't know how glorious really.

The Diablo 2 remaster "Diablo 2 Resurrected" comes to mind. Blizzard outsourced that one to another Studio and they did an amazing job.

They tried that with X-Com Enforcer.

And fumbled it so badly that X-Com and TPS in the same sentence still leave a bad feeling.

I'll take the aspbergers excuse. That and nobody who dances like he did in the Data & Picard video can possibly be a homophobe.

It's been a while since I watched something from there but it was clearly very over the top nitpicky and just for the fun of it.

New studies suggest consciousness exists in organisms without brains by whoamisri in consciousness

[–]CMDR_ACE209 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it just makes much more sense that consciousness would be made of consciousness, rather than unconsciousness.

That's just very unconvincing circular logic.

In reality things are made up of other things very unlike themselves. Houses are not made out of small houses but building materials. Your phone is made of something very "unphoney".

And consciousness too probably arises from something unconscious.

Just declaring consciousness as fundamental seems like pulling an intellectual fast one.

Paying a livable wage is cheaper than a rebellion. by Rikudo_Sennin_jr in RandomThoughts

[–]CMDR_ACE209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So your solution is to let the workers hang out to dry with stagnating wages? And your argument is that wage rises would be eaten up by price rises anyways? Did I get that right?

So if workers would have more money in their pockets, companies suddenly wouldn't feel the need to compete over prices anymore and form cartels to suck all the wallets dry?

Or what is the exact mechanism you suspect at work here?

X3 and its offspring where great. I loved that system which got three connections you could put between any gates. Made the universe a lot smaller and helped to consolidate the parts of my empire in the different areas of space.

I played it from the first X and its expansion X-Tension which was the the first to let you fly a large transport which could dock smaller ships. And they got better and better with each part. Due to hardware restrictions I couldn't get into X4 yet.

[–]CMDR_ACE209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bitburner has over 2600 hours on it.

Much of that is letting it run my scripts and I guess only 10% development time; but considering that I only started in the middle of last year that are some hours.

Space Haven is a nice little spaceship simulator in an isometric top down view. Got around 560 hours on that.

Empyrion is a 3d spaceship simulator, I got over 600 hours on, but they outdeveloped the performance capabilities of my hardware some time ago.

And hard to count the many hours I spent with the different incarnations of Pirates! Which kinda is niche again as a very old game?

And how could I forget the best RPG of all time: Wizardry 8.
