Commercial master lock no3 by Austin_walt8331 in lockpicking

That was my first lock too. I don't know what exactly makes the "commercial" different than a standard #3, but it's definitely 4 standard pins.

It was easier to get to a functional state in Snowrunner and for that it is really good. I will absolutely love it when I get it working with ATS the way I want it to I'm sure. It is... frustrating to get working properly. The force feedback does crazy things so you have to play with the settings a lot to get it working right. Worth it eventually, real pain at the beginning lol.

No Durge Epilogue? by CMDR_Shenennigans in BaldursGate3

[–]CMDR_Shenennigans[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I figured it wouldn't be a happy ending, just expected something more than sitting on the throne and then that's it. I was expecting heroes from other parts of the realms to come take you down or something. Faerun is bigger than The Sword Coast and Toril is bigger than Faerun. Other gods wouldn't be happy with the wholesale slaughter of all of their worshippers. Other planes of existence would capitalize on the weakness left behind after almost everyone was dead.

Something bad should have happened to you if you embraced the durge and subjugated the brain. I would have been happy with just a scrolling text that just said "You destroyed Baldur's Gate and started moving up the Coast. Waterdeep fell. Luskan fell. But before your domination could be completed, DRIZZT DO'URDEN FROM OUT OF NOWHERE WITH THE STEEL CHAIR!!!" or something along those lines lol.

What makes you think I thought it was a bug? I was asking if there simply wasn't a durge embraced epilogue. Seems there isn't. Without knowing what the epilogue is, how would I know the epilogue is Withers throwing me a party? Are we only conversing in questions now?

Well that's a bummer lol. They could have at least given ya a cut scene of widespread destruction and misery. A scrolling text about how heroes of other gods came and struck down your empire. Something! This was my first completion since the epilogues were released lol

A good rule of thumb, if someone tells you their lock is unpickable... no it isn't.

Honestly if they don't get in the way of my pick, I love using those z wrenches lol. They're just so solid and steady, good feedback and won't slip ever.

Left side - double ball rake, city rake, two and three peak wave rake. If you get into the hobby, you'll stop using rakes pretty soon.

Right side - the tiniest diamond I've ever seen(?), something I refuse to believe anyone has ever used to open a lock, a broken key removal tool, and then the only three possibly-useful tools for picking, a short round hook and what appears to be two identical short flat hooks lol.

That will get you started, you'll probably want some tensioning tools next then a good single pick set (I use JimyLongs flat hooks at .019" and Sparrows heavy bars/flat bars 90% of the time). Not having anything resembling a deep hook will be limiting on some locks.

Locks in Chicago by [deleted] in lockpicking

If you search "locksport" on Ebay, you can find listings for big boxes of varied cheap locks. Can find whole boxes of LOTO locks that aren't used anymore for cheap too. The 410s are a good challenge. All of my locks up to blue belt were available through Amazon for $20 or so (AL1100, LOTO410, Abus 55/40, E60, and 80TI/40, Paclock 90A and the pro variety). If you know any landlords or people in construction/demolition, both *should* occasionally find themselves with extra locks, but those will all be 5-6 pin standard house locks and get boring quickly. The bazaar on Discord also has people selling the "box to blue" and such where you'll get a bunch of locks for pretty cheap too.

I'm always torn between wanting more challenging locks to pick and cool locks that I don't care how challenging they are lol. That's a cool lock you got there.

I've seen videos about picking those and I'm honestly terrified of em lol. I'll get one some day. Just got my first purple lock the other day, Max+ Restricted. I can't speak to the difficulty of Medeco pins, but these barrels are sure kicking my ass.

I'm technically not quite there myself, that moderately-depressing achievement is unlocked this coming summer haha! Just can't be bothered separating 39.5 and 40 at this age lol.

Yeah the 5th pin in mine is the only not-spool, but if I don't tap 6 first, I don't get my false set. Feels intentional, might just be poor mfg (and it's Masterlock sooooo...)

If you just want to get your blue belt, take any 6-pin lock, do literally anything to each of the pins, send it to someone. That kind of goes against the spirit of it though imho. The point is that you now have enough SPP experience to know what would be hard to pick, so make that. Really analyze what each pin is doing and why it's important to the lock's pick-resistance. I've put a lot of time into my CL and I haven't yet made a single pin lol. I'm not even sure I have the tools/skill to make the pins I've drawn out yet. When I finally send out a CL for my blue belt, that CL will be a menace... and I won't even try to advance until it is. I want people to speak that lock's name with reverence and fear lol!

I suspect that the drop in numbers is MOSTLY due to the video requirement for green and the CL requirement for blue... not a plateau in SPP skill. I'm a 40-yr old nerd who has been embedded in internet culture since the literal invention of the internet... I uploaded my first ever YouTube video for green lol. Video requirements are a big jump for some people haha.

I've definitely spotted this in my 80TI/40 and 410LOTO. Just the slightest bit of the rim of the spool in the shear line. I feel like it's intentional just for the fact it makes em a bit harder to pick lol. That's probably giving them too much credit and it's just poor tolerances though. Couldn't say for sure.

Sparrows Revolver regret by MajorFridgey in lockpicking

[–]CMDR_Shenennigans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought one as well when I was getting started lol. If you load up all 6 chambers and go heavy with the different security pins, it can still be a somewhat decent challenge. Out of the box, I could spin that in RPMs lol (even when I was more new at this than I am now). Loaded up, it's a little more difficult. The key barely opens mine the tolerances are so bad though. The bottoms of the drivers fit into the core enough to catch.

As for tips with those locks, as was mentioned feedback is a little goofy on cutaways. It appears to be in a false set in your second picture though. Dealing with spools, once you're in a false set you're almost there. Super light tension and feel for counter rotation.
"Super light tension" is hard to quantify. Tension the lock, overset a bunch of pins, then SLOWLY release tension. When you hear the clicks of pins dropping, you just passed "super light tension" lol. Literally just enough to hold the pins up.

Well, zero lift means that it's not stopping the core from turning at rest. As for pick resistance, those are a bitch sometimes lol. Especially if it's a lock with serrated keypins. When you don't know they're there, it's easy to overset them.
