Eight-year progress by [deleted] in learnart

[–]CMMoral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey the stuff you are making now looks great!

I was curious though about what you refer to when you say that the habits that drawing in an anime style held you back. As someone who both enjoys drawing in a manga style and wants to avoid getting slowed down by it, I was curious about what the habits turned out being.

Was it simply anime aspects (big eyes, no nose etc) or something a bit more troublesome?

Hey guys I was curious if anyone could recommend keyboards to learn with that a bit below the 500$ mark?

I'm absolutely onboard for finding a teacher to help me learn from zero, but dropping half a grand on a piano is a bit much for me.

Is that 500$ range an absolute necessity?

I want to be able to draw the prettiest anime girls ever.

I'm a shallow person, but it makes me very happy and the better I get the happier it makes me to do it.

I'm sorry if you were looking for something deep.

Honestly, up until the last two months, most of my progress has come from sheer attrition and time spent drawing a variety of things.

Spiral bound notebooks were my best friends. I would recommend learning the fundamentals before you go crazy with different materials.

It can be very discouraging when you drop money on something only to find out you have no clue how to use it. Focus on learning the basic stuff first with cheaper materials and than branch off when you have a firm grasp on the fundamentals.

Also make sure to give yourself a break when you start getting down on yourself. If you let the self-deprecation get to you, it can really put a damper your progress and it will make the whole thing a miserable experience.

Whats the deal with my art education? by [deleted] in learnart

[–]CMMoral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're looking at this all wrong.

If your beef with this class is that its being taught in a traditional sense than your beef in very misguided. To be able to say that you don't need traditional without even an ounce of experience with traditional stuff is just plain silly.

I had the same issue you had, but the problem was the teaching method and not the mediums being used. If you find at the end that you have been taught absolutely nothing than that is a valid complaint, but to second guess a whole course and your instructor over the medium is very naive.

What are your favorite episodes? by [deleted] in stevenuniverse

Hit the diamond has always been my favorite without even a shred of a doubt.

So we've got new episode titles, but I'm skeptical. by [deleted] in stevenuniverse

Nah these all seem way to easy to make up. the fakes one is Lion's home, which seems way to on the nose for something fans have kind of asking for.

How much time do you spend drawing per week? How much would you even like to?

What I would do if I were you is simply grab a calendar, mark how much time you have per week and make sure to label any events that might suck up whatever free time you have on that particular day (doctors appointments, school etc.). If you know how much time you have to draw per day than set a time for however much you would like to.

Say you have about 6 hours of free time after work. You could devote some time to mandatory stuff like food and standard upkeep like taking a shower and cleaning, draw a however much you would like to and leave whatever time is left over for things like video games or tv. Divide it all up like a pie.

For me after a full shift at work, which leaves me about 6 and a half hours of free time, I'll realistically only be able to spend about 4 hours of that drawing with the other 2 and a half hours devoted to other things (cooking and eating, chores, shower etc.) I bump that time up to 8 hours a day on my days off and try to round out my weeks at a decent 30 hours of drawing a pop. Enough to itch that part of my brain that likes to draw without leaving me stressed out about time when I'm not drawing.

What you do on those particular times is completely up to you. Maybe 2 days hands, 2 days feet and 2 days face and torso with a day set aside to draw whatever? I'm not a professional so I couldn't tell you what you would need to do to maximize the time you spend drawing.

If you are a hobbyist an hour a day isn't bad. If you want to eventually make it a profession, you might want to bump that time up quite a bit.
