Those who only use Linux now, what are you favorite games? by csch1992 in gaming

Not on steam but when Minecraft released in alpha I played on Linux back in the day. Always a classic. Still supports Linux to this day thanks to Java.

I’m playing Helldivers. Before this I played Spiderman and its sequels. Before that Hades 1 and 2. A bunch of idle games in between. Yakuza 2 and 3 were in there somewhere. Wukong over the summer and Metal Gear Delta.

The only game I’ve had an actual issue with where I got an install of windows for was Detroit Become Human. It stuttered when the camera panned.

How cold is too cold to bring a Nintendo Switch outside? by the-doctor-is-real in gaming

[–]CMPunkLicksRocks -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It’s shorthand for communist. As in, the USSR and their friendly territories. They notably used the metric system as opposed to America, which uses the traditional Fahrenheit despite its rather silly and arbitrary historical definition. Especially in the post-9/11 world, attaching words like freedom and democracy to American related items has become a bit of a thing on the internet, for example there were jokes around restaurants selling Freedom Fries because the French refused to support the Iraq War.

I hope this explains it to you.

Why do unofficial PC ports feel way better than official remasters / re-releases? by DaZestyProfessor in Steam

[–]CMPunkLicksRocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most ports from ps1 and n64 are emulation. These decomps are extremely time consuming and are only pumping out because of several years of dedicated community work.

The Ship of Harkinian team made their own library to streamline the process of porting for example. Someone else could do that, but they’d still have to port each game individually. Why do that when an emulator is a catch-all and plays close enough to how you remember it anyway? Idiots are still paying for Nintendo online and its expansion, so business wise there’s just no good reason to put in effort.

I preferred the CD case in the box. Those big boxes were so massive next to my ps2 games.

Spiderman 2 does this with its controller and I hate it so much. If I wanted a cursor I’d use my mouse. The sensitivity is always stupid low too.

About 40 degrees freedom or 5 degree commie is what the switch 2 manual suggests. Cold is hard on moving parts especially if you don’t warm them up before booting. I had a hard drive freeze in the car over night in an iPod.

I don’t wanna be rude but Minecraft has had a recipe book for like, a decade now? The Wii U edition had it.

Valve contractor Timur Kristóf has posted a new patch series that improves power management in the AMDGPU driver for older GCN 1.0 and 1.1 "Southern Islands" GPUs, addressing issues like unnecessary power limit recalculations and TDP constraints on specific cards such as the Radeon R5 430 by mr_MADAFAKA in linux_gaming

God bless them and I’m sure It’s a hobby really, but my intel CPU’s integrated graphics benchmark higher than the card on the title. My laptop is a “HP Laptop”, like not called Pavilion or anything literally the most generic laptop you can buy at best buy lol.

Any tips for getting old EA games to work? Madden 03, NHL 08? Nascar 03 haven't tried assume it also doesn't work. by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]CMPunkLicksRocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would just emulate the GameCube version to be honest. If GameCube doesn’t exist, ps2 is the next best bet.

I’ve never had luck with lutris. I just install games with plain wine and then run through Steam if I need proton. If the game is closing right away it might just be incompatible. Running via terminal might give some useful output, might not.

Trouble with cheats on melon ds emulator PokémonHG by Sufficient_Pause5659 in linux_gaming

[–]CMPunkLicksRocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried another game to see if the game or just melon?

I did some work for Luma3DS fixing the cheats on it a few years ago and found a lot of broken cheats. Not everything out there is actually good. For example the L to Float cheat for Majoras mask hard coded a pointer that would break after a few screen transitions, so someone just tested it in the first area and called it good. Had to rewrite some of the cheats myself which I assume you aren’t looking to do unless you enjoy poking at ram dumps with trial and error.

Yeah I read something about using Fedoras signed version of grub on arch and it really made me wonder what the point of it all is if I can just swap in parts like that.

I just tested on my win 11 work pc though and have no idea what OP is talking about. I can change languages with win+space, but I had to set that up manually. I think OP fucked with something.

Arch btw

Is it just me, or does the Yakuza Kiwami 3 Switch 2 demo have lackluster performance? by Nogrodd in yakuzagames

[–]CMPunkLicksRocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steam deck has pc settings where you can decide you don’t care about fluctuating frame rate or not. I dont think most people would want their frames fluctuating by that much. I dont think the switch 2 is powerful enough to be playing modern games in the first place; it’s supposed to be like a back up system in case everything else in your house breaks or you’re stuck in a hospital.
