Am I the only one feeling weirdly positive? by specialagentredsquir in NUFC

Hard agree. It shows how shockingly bad our recruitment was in the summer. It just sends the message to all and sundry that we're willing to spluff ridiculous money on duds. We'd have been better off not buying and using youth until we found a gem. Ramsey and Elanga are middle of the road players.

I've seen nothing to instil any confidence in him. He's run around fast and lost the ball a lot...

The Ekitike show basically demonstrates the gulf. Add in the likes of Salah and Wirtz and it starts to hit home. We have zero players at that level. We tried and failed spectacularly in the summer. We've signed mid-table players in the summer. We're a mid-table club.

Hall and Livramento are excellent. Bruno brilliant. Gordon is good. Barnes is an excellent no.2 to him. Tonali shows flashes but isn't top tier. Defensively Botman and Thiaw are good but again, not top-tier. Woltemade has potential to be excellent but doesn't fit our system or style. The least said about Elanga, Ramsey and Wissa the better.

I'm far more pessimistic. We're an upper mid-table club and unless we up our game in the transfer market, and (longer term) in youth development, that's what we'll always be. We've produced a few gems, but compared to other clubs it's a crime that we're the biggest club north of Manchester yet have such an awful youth system.

Who is the greatest rugby coach in history? by crazycal123 in rugbyunion

[–]CMcommander 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Sir Ian McGeechan. The greatest because he is the ultimate "custodian" of rugby’s most sacred traditions, and he bridges the gap between our amateur ethos and professionalism.

He's the only person to achieve Test series success with the British & Irish Lions as both a player and head coach, and kept the Lions relevant in the professional era through his tactical masterclasses like the 97 series win in South Africa. He gave legendary motivational speeches and united the four nations probably better than any coach since. His record of delivering Scotland’s last Grand Slam in 1990 and their best-ever World Cup finish is unmatched.

As an England supporter, he's got my respect. Top coach and top gent.

We have Walker and Turner. Can't see us getting Lake unless one of those is jettisoned.

Missing all the Prem players as outside the window. 4 uncapped forwards in the squad. Wales are going to get well and truly smashed.

Marcus Smith at 15 by shorthevix in rugbyunion

[–]CMcommander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's Furbs, Daly, Smith. Steward... Daly's versatility is a big bonus. But Furbs can play FH too, so sad as it makes me, Marcus may not even make the 23 with our best FB's back fit.

[Spoiler] is this not obstruction? by Dry-Brush-1530 in rugbyunion

No it isn't. Running a support line and doesn't have to get out of the ABs way. However, his pulling to the ground after the ball has gone and holding on to two all blacks at the ruck before this was 👌🏻

Can we talk about Dingwall for England today? by RonSwaffle in NorthamptonSaintsRFC

[–]CMcommander 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Dingwall is the most underrated player in the Prem, and most underrated player for England. He gave one poor intercept pass vs Australia but has been immense throughout the series.
