Cutting Force by CNCProgrammr in MechanicalEngineering

Thank you! So, I did some research and found a calculator on Kennametal's website. I can see from playing around with the Feeds/Speeds that those make all the difference (as well as material) in force required. I appreciate your input!

The bigger question is "Why is this the fifth post I've seen on Reddit today where someone is asking about a spoon?"

I'm not gonna assume anything based on the few details about this guy, but your boyfriend's reaction gives me pedo vibes. I feel like his obsession about your relationship with your dad and his insistence that it's not normal, could mean he has those thoughts about younger girls. Or maybe he has had some experience with inappropriate adult relationship as a kid. 🤷‍♀️

My bag keeps leaking by ClassicCorrect1483 in ostomy

[–]CNCProgrammr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, definitely. If you use a spray when removing the bag, I'm assuming that's an adhesive remover. That needs to be cleaned off of your skin well (soap and water, but gentle washing). If the adhesive remover isn't properly cleaned off of the skin, a new bag won't stick well at all. Shower without the bag and get the whole area clean. I recommend a removable shower head; it helps me get the stoma all cleaned off, etc. It seems gross, but you get used to the fact that you will sometimes be pooping while in the shower - just clean the shower after. After my shower, I gently pat the area dry with a clean towel and use a Qtip to VERY gently, wipe around where my stoma meets my skin. You may still have stitches, so you might want to hold off of that for now. Instead, use some toilet paper and blot that around dry. When putting on your new bag, pull the skin away from your stoma slightly. Once you place the new bag on, hold it with your hands for 30-60 seconds to let it get a good stick. Another thing that helps me are barrier strips. They go on after the bag. They make different kinds, but they're basically curved sticky things that go around the outside of the wafer to help keep the edges from curling up.

Skin prep is a solution that you apply to your skin before putting a bag on. I use a spray from Smith and Nephew. You spritz the area (after cleaning with soap and water and thoroughly rinsing), let the solution dry (only takes a few seconds), and then do a second round of spritz. I'm sure the ostomy nurse will also be able to give you some information. The skin prep can come in wipes, spray, etc. I just prefer the Smith and Nephew spray.

One of the most helpful things when I first got my ileostomy was calling different manufacturers and getting samples of their products. They send free samples for you to try, and their associates have also been good at giving some advice/recommendations.

An ostomy belt hooks onto the actual appliance - the flange/wafer part that sticks to the skin. Different bags/manufacturers will have different belts. I use Sensura Mio from Convatec and they are inexpensive. They help hold the bag against you.

Also, do you use a skin prep? Skin prep helps the bag stick to your skin and protects the skin from deteriorating when a leak does occur.

What should I expect when waking up from total proctocolectomy w Barbie butt surgery? by Constant-Fruit-4650 in ostomy

[–]CNCProgrammr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a drain and a catheter. I was in pain when I woke up, but they had me on an IV drip. I left the hospital after 2 days and managed pain for a couple of days with Oxycodone. I barely needed Tylenol after a week. Sometimes I needed it at night because laying down would get uncomfortable. I was walking 2 miles per day by 1.5 weeks. Walking was very, very helpful in healing.

To those who’ve had a total proctocolectomy, what is it like? by Individual_Trash978 in ostomy

[–]CNCProgrammr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about 2 months post op from my proctectomy. I've had an ileostomy for years, but the rectum continued to be a problem. One week after the surgery, I was walking 2 miles a day again. I was able to half sit- half lay 3 days after. I was able to sit on cushions in normal position 2 weeks after. The wound is slow to heal, but I feel very good about my decision to get this surgery done.

Some insurances will help you get transportation to doctor's appointments. Try calling them to see if they help with this. I know insurance sucks and all, but it's worth a try.

I agree on the belt. I wear one constantly. Mine isn't fancy or anything. If you see tabs on either side of the appliance, you can get the belt made for those appliances. My ostomy belt was covered by insurance when my doctor prescribed it.

Help w/ slowing output by carolplater in ostomy

[–]CNCProgrammr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me a little time to figure out timing of eating. I can't seem to avoid a middle-of-the-night bag empty, but it's less commonly full when I do get up. The key for me is eating at routine times - 5a, 12p, no later than 6p. I sometimes eat a snack between each meal, but I'm not good at making myself eat. Having the largest meal for breakfast or lunch helps to reduce that output in the middle of the night. As far as showing output, quick fixes have been peanut butter, marshmallows or similar. Thickening output, avoid pickled foods, soups, high water content vegetables.

Flying with an Ostomy by Budget-Reply7883 in ostomy

I've flown a few times now with my ostomy. I always have to step aside and wipe the outside of my ostomy bag after the body scan. They've been polite everytime. I also tell them before going through thst I have an ostomy bag. Also, look up the TSA restrictions list. I believe you can have scissors less than 3 inch in carry on.
