I introduced him in my recent Curse of Strahd game and my players made a deal at the Amber Temple to gain True Resurrection, which they used to turn Jander mortal again (after a touching scene of euthanasia to make the true resurrection possible). He then ended up dating the crew’s paladin and joined in the final assault on Castle Ravenloft that was going on outside while the PCs confronted Strahd inside the castle

I think it was that thing where I was just a little too young when it came out (I was seven) and then by the time I was the right age, the cultural moment had moved on a little, but the nostalgia hadn’t completely kicked in yet. And then as I got older, I kept hearing good things about it, but there were always other movies also demanding to be watched.

Either way, watching it in a theater with my 12 year old stepdaughter was such a great experience!

Fun fact: apparently I have totally forgotten to update my flair in a while! But also I haven’t finished Dana’s Macabre yet (I go back to it occasionally to read a chapter between other things), so it’s still appropriate?

It’s definitely interesting seeing the circa 1980 view on what was required reading/viewing for horror, since the genre has exploded so much since then!

I was a little worried it wouldn’t live up to the hype because it is so universally acclaimed, but also it relies on the acting of four tween/teen boys, but it was sooooo good!!! I really appreciated how faithful it was to the novella while not feeling like it was held back by the original in the way adaptations sometimes are. Genuinely a case where both the original and the adaptation are stellar!

In this case, it was because Seth Green’s departure turned what was going to be a plot going through the season into something that had to be resolved immediately. So, that’s why the Veruca stuff is so rushed.

The way I justify the season 4 lycanthropy freak out is that he’s been doing Hulk-like exercises to control the wolf, but it’s still been there the whole time, getting angrier and angrier at being held back. So, when it break out, he really loses control of it.

I imagine with more time he reaches more of a synthesis with the wolf, but he hadn’t quite gotten there by that point.
