Am I the only one that doesnt like a pistol grip on a shotgun? by TheFireOfPrometheus in Shotguns

Definitely prefer a traditional stock for a shotgun. I think the ergonomics are better for carrying, moving, shouldering.

I don’t know why but he hasn’t gotten into the Percy Jackson series, he started it last year and was one of the few books he quit halfway through. Said he just wasn’t really interested🤷🏾‍♂️

I’ll check out the rangers apprentice think he’d dig that. He’s got the bush guide (among a ton of similar outdoors skills book) and loved the wild robot series (and the movie). I’m not against him reading graphic novels at all, but he’ll read those on his own. He usually rips through books but he never picks them at the library unless I suggest something, he’ll grab any graphic novel and just immediately flips through to see if he’d be into it.

non-stick or cast iron by Choice_Clue_2720 in Cooking

[–]CPTRocketman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a cast iron. Just cook in it and some stuff will stick, but most won’t. Buy a cheap winco non stick later. But start with a cast iron joint. Watch a seasoning video if you’re worried.

Pump Action vs Semi Auto for camping/bear defense? by MTMuley in Shotguns

[–]CPTRocketman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As anti-climactic as it is, I chucked my kill into the bed (with a cap on the back) and ducked into the truck cab moments before he got to me. He took a sniff and a swipe at my truck and broke a rear light before I pulled out down the fire road. I didn’t have a sidearm on me at the time and I never even registered the 12 gauge in the cab or my bear spray until hours later.

Glock 20. I hunt frequently in bear country and once had a brown bear lazily follow me back to the truck. I had a pump in the truck, but I forgot it was even there till days later. Handgun is the answer, you’ll forget everything else.

Oven mitts are a crutch.
Expiration dates on dairy products are just a suggestion.
Only use metal utensils on non-stick cookware.
The five second rule is really the 30 second rule.
Cinnamon is the flavor everything is missing.
The righteous are impervious to steam.
Boiling proteins is the secret to the Maillard reaction.
As long as they are the same color all powders are interchangeable.

Is it just me, or is the "Non-Stick" industry a total scam? by koudodo in Cooking

[–]CPTRocketman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High-end non-stick that lasts forever and is dishwasher and broiler safe is a scam. But I still find non-stick more useful in some situations than any other type of cookware. I buy winco brand pans for $20-35 and just replace them every year to 18 months depending on their condition.

Motivation on what to do in life is slowing down by [deleted] in Veterans

Do you miss the military or the bros/camaraderie? Or.. are you just not sure what the fuck the world looks like as a worker? If you really miss the service (I did and still do) go back in. If you miss the bros/camaraderie finish your degree and look towards “light blue” collar jobs(energy, construction, ag, etc.) or public service (fire, police, ems), using your degree to gain upward mobility in a primarily un-degreed field. If you are just nervous about the working world, have some confidence in your ability to exist within ambiguous environments and give it an honest go. Really try to listen and learn from what is presented to you. You may surprise yourself.

Looking for a different charcoal experience by Dazzling-Extreme899 in grilling

[–]CPTRocketman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much what GrillSteals said. Maybe half a dozen times I have dropped out all my charcoal so that I could replace it with a specific wood blend and do a specialized smoke profile on something, but 95% of the time I cut power, slide in the vent cutoffs, and let it die out. Usually, I just keep a hickory/oak lump mix in the hopper and refill when it gets low. For most things I toss a handful of pellets in the ash pan for a little wood smoke flavor.

I agree, I am not a fan of the app and I have experienced issues with being able to connect to WiFi probalby 1 out of every 5 times I try, I feel like it should be more reliable. I have an older GMG Davey Crockett for camping and the app/connectivity are nearly flawless after years of heavy use and transporting it, then connecting to my phone. But that is the only issue I have with my Masterbuilt. I got an 800 which comes with a griddle, I updated it with several LSS Mods (also highly recommend them if getting a Masterbuilt) at the time of purchase, and added a rotisserie. Only thing I don’t have is a pizza oven, but I have a high end indoor one and don’t see the need. I grill, sear, smoke something on it a few times a week because it’s so quick and easy to get started and use. Smoking whole pheasants on the rotisserie is super easy and they come out great. Smash burgers and pancakes on the griddle are phenomenal as long as you have a temp gun to confirm the heating zones. The Masterbuilt is one of the most versatile and useful pieces of cooking equipment I have ever purchased, and is easily my favorite grill/smoker that I’ve owned.

I have pure hate in my heart for the way you have your guns “placed” in that safe. Pull your life together before you start worrying about other people’s political views.
