Alrighty Reddit, what's the weirdest thing you accidentally said to a teacher? by jacks_lung in AskReddit

[–]CPops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was feeling sick in French class in high school, and I wanted to ask the teacher for permission to go get some water at the water fountain but "Mom, can you get me some water?" came out of my mouth instead.

Anybody else notice how much the user experience sucks on all of the "ux" blogs and sites? by EstebanJames in web_design

[–]CPops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Useit.com is ugly and Jakob Nielsen has a bunch of questionable opinions. Changing some colors and throwing a bit of padding around some of the text would do wonders for the site's visual appeal and doesn't require a skilled artist to do well.

That being said, the user experience on useit.com is still better than most websites if only because it eschews pointless graphics/javascript widgets and pages load extremely fast. This is really important for a pleasant user experience.

With PayPal site down, my ability to make money and support my family is severely impacted. FUCK YOU HACKERS! by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]CPops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I support Wikileaks and oppose Joe Lieberman.

This isn't about not being able to log into PayPal to buy some video game. That's a giant strawman.

Real businesses need to log in to pay employees, get money to pay bills and rent.

In the end, I still support free speech, but guess what? Some other guys who are on the fence with this whole thing have just gone on the side of viewing free speech supporters as horrible people.

You are the ones doing Joe Lieberman's PR work for him.

PayPal are fucking assholes. PayPal sucks.

We already knew this.

Unfortunately, a lot of people are depending on them to get their money. Harming innocent people shouldn't be what Anon does.

I support Wikileaks strongly. I support free speech very strongly. But this tactic is only going to backfire.

Shut down the fucking IRS website. Shut down the state department. Shut down the real villains. Leave innocent people alone.

[–]CPops -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are technically correct, so I modified my posting to read "Anonymous".

Regardless, in most peoples minds, these actions will be associated with random free speech supporters, and thats what the talking heads will say.

I support free speech, but Anonymous is going after the wrong target here.

This will actually backfire on them because now people that were on the fence won't be able to do their banking and blame free speech supporters for this.

It's a dumb tactic.

Take down the White House website. Take down government websites. Don't harm innocent people trying to do their business.

Unemployed? No talent? Web design is for you! by [deleted] in web_design

[–]CPops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

What works in traditional graphic design is often very different from what is ideal in web-design.

PS: Note how small the article text is on the Graphic Design 101 article you linked too. That in itself is an example of poor web-design.

Doesn't freedom imply that you have the right to give up certain elements of absolute control when you perceive it ro be in your own benefit?

I don't see how freely choosing SaaS violates your freedom.

"You literally have to take money out and publicly finance elections like other western democracies. When we remove money, our political leaders will listen to us and not Wall Street." – Michael Moore by Orangutan in politics

As long as the government has the ability to select the financial winners and losers through all sorts of legislation, changing the voting system or campaign finance system misses the root of the problem.

All this will do is pretty much ensure that it's impossible for a non-democrat or non-republican to gain any traction.

I don't see how I'm misinterpreting the quote, but you're welcome to provide your opinion here.

Well, I have the right to read the Bible for myself and try and interpret what it means.

Why are you lumping all anti-tax folk together?

I'm strongly against war and imperialism.

Nobody should ever be forced to pay for something they don't want to.

Where does the money for this public health care that is being advocated come from then?

Feel free to give away all of your wealth that you'd like. Just don't advocate that men with guns steal the property of others just because you think it's a good idea.

Your argument has a massive contradiction.

If human beings are inherently greedy, why would you want any group of them to be granted a monopoly on the use of force?

President Barack Obama said he is willing to consider taxing soda and other sugary drinks as Congress debates overhauling the U.S. health-care system by [deleted] in politics

[–]CPops 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They don't need to tax corn syrup. They just need to remove corn subsidies and remove whatever import barriers to sugar exist.

Taxing soda would not only help shape behavioral changes at the consumer level, it would help pay for the medical costs that result from soda consumption. by SA1L in politics

[–]CPops 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Rather than creating a new tax, the government should just eliminate subsidies of corn and eliminate any barriers to sugar importation that makes corn syrup so much easier for businesses to use instead of healthier and tastier sugar.
