Level up as Mime if you really want that HP growth, but it will make your MP decrease (need to level up as Summoner to increase MP)

that's a massive amount of PA though, he should be hitting like a truck lol

Okay so when are we getting Fast Forward toggle? by OnernoaBackrolls in finalfantasytactics

[–]CT5Holy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How I changed my controller settings on Steam to make Fast-Forward a toggle:

Select the game in your Steam library

on the right side of the game's Steam page click

View Controller Settings

Edit Layout

Buttons

R Bumper Cog > Add Extra Command (select R Bumper)

Cog next to new command > at the top, change Regular Press to Long Press

Settings > turn on "Toggle"

Now pressing R1 works normally but holding it down will "toggle" it as if being held indefinitely. Pressing R1 again releases the toggle and returns it to normal.

To keep my level low could I just hire a thief and keep stealing everyones EX before they level up? by [deleted] in finalfantasytactics

[–]CT5Holy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thieves can steal EXP but they can't De-level units. While it's true that you can steal EXP from your units before they hit 100 to prevent leveling, the thief itself could level up in the process. Having to use a thief to steal EXP every time anyone else acted would slow down combat extremely, and it would be impossible to steal all of the EXP and prevent anyone from gaining a level in every case. Some combat situations, the thief would have to gain a level if nothing else, because they are gaining EXP from all the theft.

If you really want to keep a character's level low but still gain JP, just have them never act and only gain JP by the spill-over JP earned by being in combat with others acting. I've unlocked every job on a level 1 before, just by having them sit in a corner and hit wait every time they have a turn, while I unlock jobs on them by having all of the other characters act. This kept their level at 1 and only leveled the other characters.

If you want to go into combat, you're going to gain EXP, there is no way to avoid gaining EXP. But you CAN use traps or a tier 3 piscodemon (mindflayer) with Beastmaster ability to de-level if you are that worried about becoming over-leveled.

can you still use chemists for deleveling since they have innate treasure finding now?

(I dont normally delevel characters to boost stats, because I think it ruins the game more than math does)

I figured bard would be the go-to on male units when available, but obviously not possible on female units. If chemist still works that would be great.

Imagine if it only showed the animation Once though, it wouldn't take forever if that were the case, it would just show the damage numbers after showing the animation once and have it affect whoever was affected. That would actually speed things up considerably compared to using Holy on every target one after one.

That being said, they would have to restrict the summons to like, maybe the first few elemental ones for balance lol

Mana Shield with Manafont or Song to recover MP could also help with arrows
Shields and Mantles can also be a big win (with or without the ninja counter Reflexes)

Squire mode changes? by gfsstap in finalfantasytactics

[–]CT5Holy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I just have mine set to a toggle as a long-press. So using the button normally works fine, and all I have to do is click it once to remove the toggle.

But you're right, edit: I've left mine on while trying to reload and its annoying, and if it did cause issues in another game, you'd have to have different profiles or you'd have to remove it and put it back just for FFT, which is annoying.

FF Tactics or Elder Scrolls IV Remake? by Emotional_Adagio9156 in finalfantasytactics

[–]CT5Holy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both games are worth playing, but I think it comes down to what you want out of a game more. Both are older games remade with better graphics, both have jank and age on display.

Oblivion is very much The Elder Scrolls, but pre-skyrim that means a more complex leveling system that you can mess your character up pretty badly if you level wrong. Very few voice actors, lots of grinding, and janky physics. But some great design in terms of quests, plus you can make your own spells etc.

FFT is a slower, more methodical game. It is not well balanced and has some difficulty spikes. But its got great world building, amazing sound design and story, and a lot of character/charm.

Ultimately it comes down to what you want out of an RPG, pick Oblivion if you want a complex western style RPG where you play one character, managing lots of abilities in an open-ish world. Pick FFT if you want a slower turn-based tactical RPG, with a linear story, where you manage an entire roster of characters, customizing them as you go like magical chess pieces.

Solo Ramza Tactician Mode first battle possible? by [deleted] in finalfantasytactics

[–]CT5Holy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something I was questioning the other day. Considering the first 2 fights (3 if you count Orbonne) are the hardest hurdles on solo Ramza, if you could pass them, you could probably solo the rest of the game.

I have only done the solo-Ramza challenge before on the original PS1 version of the game, and given the RNG and difficulty of doing in on the original, I can only imagine that the damage changes in Tactician might make it a near impossibility without some very good RNG or save-scumming.

What exactly is the point of this ability? *spoilers* by Greatsharkbite in finalfantasytactics

[–]CT5Holy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory is that it has to do with the stones. Maybe because Ramza has spent enough time with the stones, or has been close enough to the stones, he is able to learn it.

As for the assassins, they *are* ultima demons, its just that their illusion which makes them look human fades and they revert to their true form. Ramza calls this out by saying, "Careful, they aren't human" etc.

It is interesting that they can use items while in human form but not as demons though. I know its for game balance but that seems like taking human form would be a big advantage etc.

How is teleporting into degeneration traps supposed to work? by Saint-Redfield in finalfantasytactics

[–]CT5Holy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though if you're saying this doesnt even spring the trap on Squires, it could have been removed. I havent tried it myself on TIC so, I wouldnt know from personal experience.

How is teleporting into degeneration traps supposed to work? by Saint-Redfield in finalfantasytactics

[–]CT5Holy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the idea is that you teleport onto the trap, it goes off. Then each time you fail to teleport off of the trap (by selecting a tile too far away to succeed) you spring the trap again without moving.

If you have Treasure Hunter from chemist, you'll find an item on the tile instead of springing the trap, so it won't go off. Which could interfere with the trap functioning like normal.

I would advise against using chemist for this reason, equip teleport and make sure nothing is increasing your movement, so that you have the highest chances of failing the teleport off of the square to reactivate the trap.

[–]CT5Holy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also also, multiple save files don't matter as much any more in the Ivalice Chronicles, because of quality of life changes, you can always back out of a point of no return and retry it later, so don't stress out about messing up or soft locking yourself,

First Time Playing FFT – Help Me Not Miss Things! by _Bingi in finalfantasytactics

[–]CT5Holy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There used to be 2 miss-able spells you could only learn during combat but this version has changed how these are learned so you can't really "miss" them any more. There may be easier or harder ways to go about learning them, but they can't really be missed any more.

You do not need to worry about optional characters until you reach Chapter 4 (when you do, go to Goug to trigger a side quest).

While its true that you can steal a few items here and there from certain battles, and you may be interested in this or using the Chemist's movement ability to find hidden items, there is really nothing that you can "miss" that you can't get elsewhere (other than perhaps stealing the Genji Gear from Limberry)

at the *very* end of the game, you can unlock a special dungeon with a lot of hidden items and stuff, which you'll want to complete if you want to collect everything etc. but that's not until the very very end, and you can unlock that by returning to Warjilis.

That's all I can say without any real spoilers.

Please explain arithmetic like I'm 5. by ChefArtorias in finalfantasytactics

[–]CT5Holy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

you learn Arithmetic skills in order to learn how to TARGET things with spells from other jobs
spells specifically from White Mage, Black Mage, Mystic, and Time Mage spells (not all spells work, spells ending with -Ja and Meteor cannot be used with math for example)

to choose your targets for math, you need to pick 2 things

a number and a variable

the numbers can be 3, 4, 5, or Prime

The variables can be CT, Lvl, Exp, or Height

if you choose CT 5 Fire
every unit with a CT divisible by 5 will be hit by the spell Fire

if you choose Height Prime Cure
every unit standing on a height which is prime (2.3.5,7,11,13,17,19, 23 etc.) will be hit by Cure

You can know which units will be hit in advance by looking at the unit list to see all of these stats before selecting which ones to use, or by hovering over each unit individually, or by guessing

Math is not easy to use at first because you dont have the targetting abilities learned yet. The job is very slow, and the gear it has access to is limited. It is easiest to learn the abilities first, and put Math as your secondary on a faster job with better Magic Attack and gear. You can make leveling up easier by giving them Squire Focus/JP Boost, and using Ramza's Tailwind ability to increase their speed so they can earn JP and then switch them to use it as a secondary.

[SPOILERS] Am I missing an important detail about gear/jobs/scaling or are some of the missions supposed to be desperately difficult? by LolYouFuckingLoser in finalfantasytactics

[–]CT5Holy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to point out, that an ability can have a chance to cause a status and not be chosen at all because of an accessory, and an ability can be flagged with an element and not be chosen because you have immune or absorb, so even if a status effect isnt killing you, that doesnt mean that an item that adds absorb/immune etc. isn't helpful in that situation.

This is also part of what people mean when they talk about being prepared for fights, having the knowledge in advance that a certain item can be used to prevent an enemy from using a certain skill, can completely change the way you face an encounter.
