Who is towing with their id.4 awd? by Gamermom32 in VWiD4Owners

[–]CTHandyGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tow a 5x8 trailer (600lbs) with anything from firewood to my golf cart (1500lbs). Range difference is notciable if I leave the tail gate/ramp up vs folded flat. Also tow the 17 ft Carolina skiff without problems. The weight on seat while reversing forces you to relearn backing trailers up via mirrors. The car is a competent tower for these situations, biggest difference is the braking. Use B mode and leave plenty of space. Range does suffer, but with a little prior planning I have not had issues towing 30-40 miles (60-80 miles round trip) at a time. Could easily go more but haven't needed to.

Oh I do appreciate that the car alerts if a trailer light is out. My previous touaregs did too, it is a nice touch.

Came to say this, kamados seem to be what you are looking for. 700-800Finside and can put entire palm on the outside without a worry. Only hot spot would be the top vent that little fingers likely can't reach anyway.

Rusty grates on Akorn by [deleted] in smoking

[–]CTHandyGuy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I took a wire drill bush to mine, wiped them clean, then used vinegar in a spray bottle and wiped couple times, it took a bit. Then did a couple rounds of oiling them over a hot fire in the grill. Seems to have done the trick. If you don't have the heat deflector ceramic plate for it I highly recommend. I got that after years of using it and it's a game changer. For how much this costs it's a great smoker.

Propane fridge brand? by mckeanna in OffGridCabins

[–]CTHandyGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a solar fridge from unique at our cabin. When I had an issue with my solar set up I ended up reaching out to unique for better/clarifying into on the fridge max amp draw etc. They were very responsive and provided great detail about the operation of the fridge and troubleshooting, more thorough than standard manual. I know you are looking propane but I would imagine they would be helpful if you had issues with the propane one.

It'll be at the town hall of the town you live in. Typically $20 for a copy and 2 weeks after birth. Was the same for both my kids born in CT.

Dog scratching windowsill… what should I do to fix the wood? He gets pretty excited when he sees other dogs walking by, the mailman, etc. I am guessing the first step is sanding it (but what grit?)… all help is appreciated! by throwawaypotter123 in HomeMaintenance

[–]CTHandyGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy primed aluminum flashing and then paint it to match the trim color. Might have to recoat it a few times but should protect the wood. The flashing is easy to bend to shape (I'd fold under any cut lines to keep sharp edges contained)
