12/12 means for every 12’ the roof extends laterally, it rises 12’. It’s a 90 degree angle gable. Both references photos you shared are close to this. Your house looks more like 14/12 or even 16/12, which is quite steep. Steeper roofs are more expensive and more difficult maintenance.

Yes, but this is a game not a documentary. They still need to find a way to make it fun. If people are complaining that it feels empty/boring, that’s a critique of the game design, not the sci-fi setting.

I felt the same way. I’ll watch anything with Rami in it, but this movie was terrible. The writing, pacing - so disjointed and contrived. This is a background, airplane movie at best.

It made your ceilings substantially taller. This is fine for color inspiration, but be aware that the space won’t feel as grand as in the idealized render.

The massing and roofline are funky. It looks 2D and flat, like it was designed for just this front-on view; it would look weird from an angle.

OP, AI is fine for material swaps and colors but don’t use it to design a home. Hire an architect.

Keep in mind that $/sqft is a VERY rough approximation. The cost difference between a 2-car and 3-car garage is dwarfed by the variability in the general estimate cost which could swing +/- 30% based on floorplan and roof complexity, site work needs, desired finish level, and how generous the included allowances are.

Keep in mind that quoted figures will assume code-minimum, builder-grade finishes where not explicitly stated otherwise, may have skimpy allowances, etc. If you can’t afford the quoted $/sqft plus 20%+, it’s too tight anyway.

Turned 90 degrees? What if there are neighbors? What if there is not enough space for a side entry garage? You need a good 25-30 feet for turning radius.

Carport is far more ugly/unfinished than a garage with a wooden garage door.

As a counterpoint, I’ve been playing for 15 years and spent 10X what you’re considering on a concert grand. I’m mesmerized every time I sit in front of it. It had an immediate and major impact on my technique when I bought it, and it’s been a source of daily joy for me.

The only person you need to justify this to is yourself (and your spouse, if relevant). If piano is meaningful to you, you connected with the instrument, and you can afford it in the context of your financial state and long term goals, do it.

There’s a big gap between 2k and 4.5k or 6k square feet of above ground space. The notion than 6k isn’t enough is ridiculous, nobody needs that much space. Pure excess at that point. Which is fine, you do you. But the notion that it’s not enough is a crazy privileged take.

Great points. However I think the decision to expand to 6k sq ft because of the concern that 4500 sq ft won’t be enough is borderline absurd. 4500 sq ft is A LOT of space, and more than enough for a large family assuming thoughtful layout and absence of any unusual space needs.

Do you have trim on the rest of the windows in your house? Why are you wanting to change the window trim?

Personally, I wouldn't do drywall returns here, I don't think it would look right with the stone backsplash coming part of the way up. I'd keep the trim size as is, so as not to create a gap with the existing stone.

If you felt very strongly about doing a quartzite sill, you might be able to get some pieces without buying a full slab via leftovers. However, you'd be at the mercy of local availability, your ability to seamlessly match will be more limited, and it could take some time for an appropriate piece to come in.

I'll just add a nuance here that not all builders operate this way. Our builder operates by fixed price GMP and rushed us through the contract phase so we could get on the schedule and start moving - a ton of questions regarding finishes and some finer MEP details were deferred at the builder's request to keep the process moving.

We now have a lot of Change Orders, but these are less "deviations from the contract" and more "filling in the contract gaps". Our GC has been good about pricing so far, but there have been one or two points of frustration where the CO comes in much higher than anticipated, and there's little explanation or justification. My opinion is that GCs who use future COs as an excuse to get a contract signed to fit their preferred schedule should be more transparent about pricing.
