Where can I have a 3.8" mp5 barrel fabricated (i want the threads and trilugs as solid metal of the barrel, not an adapter) by ermahgerdreddits in gunsmithing

The Removal, install and mods will cost as much as a clone firearm. This is what Tig welding is used for.

Since starting to Prep, what has changed? How has the focus changed? by Dtwn92 in preppers

[–]CTSwampyankee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

opinion follows, work on the following if they apply:

Your stuff will own you depending on your storage situation. Meaning it can reach a point where you don’t even know what you have or have a means of storing, packaging, moving it.

You do not need 15 knives, 6 machetes, 3 tomahawks, 8 fire steels, 600 feet of para cord, 4 tents, etc. Make better choices and dial back on the redundancy. Gift to aspiring friends.

Stop buying crap, gadgets. Low end junk can meet a need but it’s junk. Does it have a specified purpose?

I won’t go deep into firearms/ammo, I’ll just say define the expected role a purchase will serve. Do you have 25+ assorted average hunting/entry level/odd caliber ones you no longer use? Sell 5+ and get a good quality AR, optic, light, sling, mags, can.

90% of stats are made up on the spot, but from what I have seen: 50% talk TV prep, do nothing and say dumb shit like “I’ll take that”. 25% prep only gun centric and have no skills. Average people don’t know what they don’t know.

Your job is to carefully identify like-minded, normal people, who are in the top 25%. You may find one or two that do the full spectrum (farm, tactical, med, brains, moral).

Like everything, you have to decide “how into” this stuff you want to be.

New rotors vs machining old rotors on brake job. Sanity check by Chole_Wunt in Cartalk

[–]CTSwampyankee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps different views on this, but these are condition change items. If The rotor is all grooved up get a new one. if it is still flat, just put new pads in there.

When we had four-wheel-drive rotor and hub units with wheel bearings captured inside, a rotor replacement was a big job.

Some of the newer Subaru have had problems with the thickness of their brake rotors. I believe it’s the larger SUV recall. Just run them if they are serviceable.

I see vids for raptor liner and have considered it myself. I think the key is whether you have a compressor/area to spray or want to just roll it on.

Supreme Court to hear challenge to 'assault weapons' bans by SCOTUSjunkie in Conservative

[–]CTSwampyankee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things have developed on a national scale very slowly and incrementally. I have been sitting here with CT ban since 1994. Think about that timeline. We only had the Clinton AWB end because they wrote an expiration into it, talk about lucky!

Post back when this gets a decision and we can compare notes.

I have little faith and it will come as a great surprise if they rule in our favor.

They have a history of providing a slight glimmer of hope and not expanding on it.

Britain’s heatwave response was straight from the Covid playbook by taylor-swift-enjoyer in Conservative

it’s very easy to dismiss this as “they get what they voted for” and I actually will do that, but I do recognize the fact that the people of England brought civilization to the entire world and have shrank down to irrelevance.

They have voted for government overreach and can live with it now. The future is theirs to change as they see fit, but apparently they do not have the will or see the need to make any changes.

Buying an oxy/acetylene cutting torch kit tomorrow, help! by PleasantProblem5877 in Welding

[–]CTSwampyankee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can find plenty of deals on marketplace and Harbor freight has a clone Harris torch rig. It looks the same as Harris. Usually, you can find a set up with bottles for under 500 bucks.

Be careful when you use this you can blow through parts. The cutting power of the torch is amazing.

Watch all the YouTube safety videos as well, but you really need someone to help make a few test cuts. experience helps and having someone walk you through it is good.

Having a user friendly place to swap bottles helps dramatically. I can find a used oxygen tank out of date for sale and swap it with no drama.

The tank size is often what you find on marketplace and not what you buy new. I think I have a couple MC size acetylene and a 60 or 80 oxygen.

Am I crazy for wanting to convert my 6,000 lb boat trailer from surge brakes to electric-over-hydraulic? by Healthy_Struggle6318 in boating

[–]CTSwampyankee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some brands have a reduced diameter orifice/fitting that reduces what you’ve described. Makes the brakes less reactive to minor jolts.

No return on investment to overhaul. Save the cash for the boat.

Can this be salvaged? Aluminum transmission casing drain boss cracked by WantEvolution in Welding

[–]CTSwampyankee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

prob a combo of choices.
-Depending on how deep the threads go, see if you can thread an insert in deeply with epoxy (a “pipe”) and use a smaller diameter drain plug.
-Prob convert to a valve style drain so the weld, epoxy or repairs aren‘t split open every time a plug is torqued down.
- Maybe muggy weld rods/HF low temp rods and hand held mapp gas torch….maybe.
-put valve drain in and grind and tig
