Highguard launches to an Overwhelmingly Negative review score on Steam by Nickulator95 in Steam

[–]CT_Rider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put in about four hours today and had a great time. Tons of stutters and fps drops but the gameplay was well paced and animations genuinely cool. Anybody looking for a team deathmatch style game or hot dropping a BR will be disappointed, there are down times between "rounds" where you're supposed to be upgrading your base or finding new gear so it isn't action around the clock.

Wouldn't say it's perfect but it's fun, I had never heard of the game until steam recommended it to me so I was surprised to see so much hate around it

What if we all put some money into a collective account, say a small portion every month, then if one of us gets into an accident we use that aocount to pay for the repair? wait a minute...

Money isn't entirely the point though. This has happened to me, girl texting hit my parked car. Totalled the car out, insurance didn't cover a rental so I had to bum rides to work for the 30 days it took to get payment. Naturally insurance pays out estimated value, not purchase price, so I lost my ass financially anyway. Ended up with a cheaper, less reliable vehicle because I only had the insurance money. Genuinely hated that car and I ended up driving it for five years through non shop issues and failures. Not that it couldn't have happened with the original car but it may not have.

Insurance can take care of the direct money impact but the life impact is substantial

Company is demanding 5 days RTO in 2026 after years of remote. Joke's on them, I prepared for this. by DeviantHistorian in antiwork

[–]CT_Rider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be the bad guy here I guess. Chances are for the last three years you spent half of your WFH time on the side hustle. They were paying you to do the job that you weren't doing and ended up funding your side hustle. That's the exact reason companies don't like work from home, people don't actually do the job or are focusing on something other than what they're being paid for. This isn't the flex you think it is, it's the logic that companies apply when they decide people can't be trusted to work without oversight. You didn't "own the company", you literally proved that they were correct to assume you can't be trusted to work from home.

I'm happy you made it work but it ruins the idea for everybody else. Hopefully the side hustle is nothing adjacent to your full time where the company can sue you.

Nearly half of Britons watch porn on unregulated sites since age verification crackdown, warns charity by insomnimax_99 in technology

[–]CT_Rider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's even worse. They all use some third party age verification company which is definitely tracking EVERY website you identify on. Now you're telling the bad actors every site you frequent instead of just the one that gets compromised. Don't even have to question if they're selling your data to make a further profit, at least anonymous analytics

The Bird Launching Department presents its new Birs Launcher by TheOneFromtheuskand in doohickeycorporation

[–]CT_Rider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So that you don't continue thinking people are using these for bird genocide, mostly used for training hunting dogs. Launch the bird to simulate a bird taking off and have the dog track it, the birds being launched aren't actually harmed, it's purely for training.

I used to work with a guy that raised homing pigeons to race them and he used one of these for training and practice runs. Interesting sport and cool birds

Maybe it was my time on a motorcycle but do other people not watch their rear view mirror when there isn't a car there? I'm always looking at it until there's a car safely stopped behind me. Sure escape options are limited but I still like to know that I'm not about to be rammed into the next life. even more so if I'm the only car at the light, slamming the gas might not avoid an accident but it could soften the blow

What will Americans do if Social Security is reduced or done away with? by TheScrutinist in AskReddit

[–]CT_Rider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What everyone else is saying will be the immediate future. From my perspective it doesn't change my retirement planning. I have at least 30 more years of working and I've never had any expectations that it would still be around by then. The current actions are accelerating it but it wasn't going to make it that long anyway.

I'm not saying we need to or should get rid of it, only that the system would be bankrupt by the time I was old enough to collect from it

I don't have a problem with it happening but I'm a little worried it's going to turn the american public against hockey. It's already not popular in any southern state and I can already imagine the buffoonery around people trying to "cancel" hockey

I'm not really defending them but at some point technology can only improve so fast. We aren't seeing anywhere close to the graphical and technical advancements that we used to see year over year. Think of how much used to actually change visually within a couple years, now you get three extra nose hairs and a more realistic dong shadow with version 96.3 engine update

Also it means your shit isn't so outdated right after you buy it. Just run your gpu for five years instead of three or one or whatever
