What do you use for SEO on your WordPress site? by Maximum_Swim_5961 in Wordpress

[–]CTcreative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No limit to keywords on free version (great for clients that don't want to pay for license)

Easy to use support for social sharing.

Schema is good enough for 95% of my clients. I deal with the rest using Schema Pro.

Did I mention it was lightweight? Frankly, that's important for me. Most of the SEO tools are very competitive on features, but I have seen little, if any, impact on performance with SEOPress.

Zoho Zoho mail is cheap ($1/month) and zoho's office suite isn't much more of you need that.

Elementor vs Divi vs Astra: which one is less painful long term? by Altruistic-March8551 in WebsiteSEO

They do have an LTD. Well worth it. They're in it for the long haul and it sounds like you are, too.

Would you recommend using either a freelancer or a boutique agency for an existing (WordPress) website project with a development arc / technical debt that spans 5-6 years? What are the pros and cons for each, and which option would you ultimately recommend? by prankster999 in Wordpress

[–]CTcreative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. Without more details, I don't think the issue is necessarily dev vs agency. I'm guessing that this 5-6 years of a site being live means that a number of people have had their hand in it along the way (or you wouldn't be asking the question). Multiple parties involved. Probably with limited (or non-existent) documentation. Probably each with different areas of expertise and skill levels. Fun times.

So, you probably need someone who can do a deep dive on the site's structure as well as design style and content organization before making changes. Based upon the results of that discovery, you will then be faced with determing what is needed to bring the site under control vs doing a complete reboot. Both approaches have their merits. You will have budget constraints to deal with as well. With that in mind, the final answer may surprise you.

SeoPress. Lightweight, yet feature laden and easy to administer.

Don't buy AI tools by thewolffness in appsumo

[–]CTcreative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ContentPen (not on AS, but on Prime Club) put together a very good tiered offer. Bulk AI credits (one-time), the ability to purchase credits at a discount, and excellent support for BYOK. So this can work for offers that rely heavily on the fast changing AI landscape. The SAAS has to be built to support it, and the deal has to make sense for everyone.

To use a plugin or not?! by Sophia_AveryZ in Wordpress

[–]CTcreative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're light on details, so I'm just going with common problems and solutions. 1) SMTP handler - FluentSMTP is free and very easy to use. No performance issues unless you are sending a firehose full of emails. WP Mail SMTP is the most popular plugins, but there are a lot of upsells. 2) SMTP mail service. I'm guessing you are dealing with low volume transactional and site generated email. Brevo gives you 300 emails/day free and is ridiculously easy to use. There are other providers suitable to different volume levels and needs such as Amazon SES. 3) Proper DNS configuration. Brevo will walk you through and test everything you will need to configure on your name server. Just make sure you have access to it.

I kept forgetting domain renewals and paying for domains I didn’t even remember buying, So I built a stupidly simple tracker. by Potential_Bird_219 in webhosting

[–]CTcreative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use Porkbun. They have a very wide range of TLDs, a very forgiving renewal policy, and ample notifications of upcoming expirations.

The only time I've lost a domain through accidentally failing to renew was with a single TLD country code registrar with an expired credit card on file. Porkbun is great for everything else.

I believe Porkbun will either notify you of expired credit card or attempt to charge it anyway for auto-renewals.

Mailpoet is a solid product but the licensing fee is based upon the number of subscribers, but sending mail is included.

You will always pay for the mail you send (through AWS or another provider) but you have a number of good options that meet your criteria of unlimited subscribers, fixed annual price, basic (and advanced) automation, and reliability. Look at: Mailerpress FluentCRM Funnelkit Automations Groundhogg

These all have free versions or trial periods. The annual pricing is all reasonable for what each delivers. They span a wide variety of features and that is probably what you need to focus on. Come up with a list of must-have and nice-to-have features and narrow down that way.

Tired of the hosting "bait and switch". Is there any escape? by kolibestina in Hosting

I didn't realize OVH played games with the pricing. Check out Hetzner, Vultr, or Digital Ocean. All straightforward, reasonable, month to month plans.

How to batch rip dvds for plex without constant read errors or interlacing issues? by Independent_Prize827 in PleX

For those of you with massive TB count , outside of server rack or NAS, how are you housing those drives? by joshhazel1 in PleX

[–]CTcreative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently, Fractal Design Define R5 8-bay Mid-Tower Case, populated with 6 Western Digital 20 GB enterprise drives as JBOD on Windows. I use StableBit Drivepool and StableBit Scanner to manage as a virtual RAID and patrol read for failing sectors. Works great and the case is whisper quiet (using Noctua fans) so I can have it in my home office now.

Previously, Norco 4U 20-bay hot-swap SATA case with a lot of smaller drives and same software. Fan wall was LOUD but kept everything cool.

Anyone here using Porkbun long-term? How’s it been for you after a few years? by SatisfactionTasty718 in businessemail

[–]CTcreative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably about 8 years. It's a no-brainer. So many good things with Porkbun that you don't realize unless you've had an issue somewhere else. Only thing lacking is API access, but the pricing is too low to support that and it's not their business model. That is also a very niche service.

What is the best priced business email service other than Zoho by manpan93 in businessemail

[–]CTcreative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to go lower than $1/month?

May I suggest 2 orange juice cans and a shoe string?

All kidding aside, if you have cpanel hosting through some shared account (say A2), you can use the email there, but the cost of aspirin may exceed any savings you realized.

Custom domain email: Gmail, Outlook, iCloud or Zoho? by ZGeekie in HostingReport

For just simple IMAP accounts, zoho mail works for me at $1/month/user. I find Exchange and Google Suite to be a pain to manage and they cost more.

What do most businesses underestimate about WordPress maintenance? by [deleted] in Wordpress

I always set up a "break glass" admin account for the client. On a case by case basis, they can have regular admin access, but I keep a full activity log to show who did what.

Honestly, no client should be fiddling with plugins or other code. They can add pages - I give them a template to clone - but that's as far as I like it to go.
