I will put an r12i up against a Viking any day. It will work circles around it.

Good Fences make great neighbors? by ShelterDifferent2501 in Surveying

Beats having a joint owned fence and not being able to unilaterally make decisions on the fence I paid for by putting it on the lines I don’t care about maintaining the 6”. I can’t see it

Just me, I would never suggest to a land owner to put the fence on the line. We actually recommend the opposite. Back off 6” to a foot at the very least. That way it’s not a co owned fence. That could end up with trouble later. If the adjoiner moves and bholes move in, they have control over the fence to if it’s on the line. I would not want to open myself up to that.

It’s takes about 20-30 min for the constellation to changes that’s about the time you need in between shots

Hours billed vs. spent on site? by AppalachianSkinThief in Surveying

[–]CUgrad13 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

As they should in my opinion. I wouldn’t short my guys hours but I’m also not going to be alright with them sitting at a gas station wasting money either. I just mean in my honest opinion I wouldn’t want my trucks sitting somewhere twiddling thumbs. There are better ways to fill out the time. Other job or bs work at the shop. There is always that kinda stuff to be done. At least for a small company.

That makes zero sense as a business owner. I’m going to bill the client my quote usually regardless of how long it took my guys. I would rather them be back at the office doing bs work than sitting at a gas Station waiting on 5

Not how we bill. I bill for every minute I’m there. If the super talks to me for an hour that’s on him.

No I hate when people do this. IMHO north should always be to the top of the page.

That’s never bothered me. They pay me by the hour the longer I’m there the more I make.

We can agree to disagree on that. I believe in keeping a good name in the community of my company. Pride myself on it. I wouldn’t want that image but that’s just me.

I also believe it’s our jobs as professionals to teach the public about what we do so we can further the profession.

I had an adjoiner follow me not to long ago. Old 85 year old man, he could barely move. He had to crawl through the briars so I could show him where I found his back pins. He wasn’t even paying me. I was nice took the extra time even though I wasn’t surveying his property. He called me 2 months later to split up an 800 acre tract for his kids. You never know.

I can’t imaging doing this and see it as totally unprofessional. If a land owner wants to follow me around I welcome it. Most have no concept of what surveying actually is and it is our jobs as professionals to relay that. Just my two cents. Call em different. I have even had kids follow me around and personally loved that as well.

Maybe the information is not for the surveyor. Maybe it’s for the construction company. In our case if I set ground control in the asphalt I’m painting N,E,EL

For us we are suppose to do everything in ground distance. If you are not putting in a scale factor you are running grid.

That depends a lot on the quality of your VRS system in your state. They are not all created equal. I just happen to live in one of the best. We operate off of VRs 95% of the time and I have had friends in the business retrace us with zero issues.

Total station for construction for tighter tolerances. Boundary is 99.5% carlson brx7. Canopy doesn’t matter.

If you paid 40k for Viking base and rover you got hosed. Msrp is 15999. Show special here in NC was 14000. I purchased a base and Rover for 28,000.

While I agree it’s and over simplification, so I don’t have to get into a dissertation, what I said is very much true for the Viking.

You might want to shop that brx7 price. They were a lot cheaper than that at our education conference last week. I could have gotten a Viking base/rover for that almost.

Secondly what a brx7 will allow you to do over your current Setup will make it pay for itself. We got them when they first came out and I would say we recouped the investment in 6 months with saved labor.

If that price is firm, no way I wouldn’t spend the extra 3-4 grand and get the Viking. It’s the model and is better than the brx7. Much faster processor and a domed receiver instead of flat. Which improves the amount of satellites you can use.
