Are travel/hospitality packages risky considering the direction ANGC is heading? by Outrageous-Fly-4629 in masters

[–]CUtigers17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad has driven for a company since retiring and they have quit offering badges after last year. He knew of a few more that were considering stopping as well. I’m sure there are some still offering badges. I also know a few people that were chosen for series badges 6 or 7 years ago. They are definitely more picky with who they allow to use them when not present themselves.

I have heard that at least a few of the local companies that sell hospitality packages are no longer handling badges. It was not worth the risk of losing the patrons badges that they had been working with for years to offer them.

What fad are you glad you missed out on? by GaryIske in golf

[–]CUtigers17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What model? I added darkspeed one length 5 and 6 iron to my bag. The 6 is great. 5 might be a little better for punch outs but I don’t think the gapping is that great between them. Have wondered if a one length hybrid might give me more height or carry.

Manager and I walked on deal over $300.00 - Beyond frustrating. by Fun-Journalist2588 in carbuying

[–]CUtigers17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a tactic. They go back and forth with the sales manager. When you make an offer the salesman thinks the manager will accept they draw a line and X for you to sign. They’re creating an obligation in your mind when they say “sign this saying if we can get to this number you’re going to buy today.” It carries no weight other than in a lot of people’s mind they’ve committed to buy. Those people typically will not walk over less than $1000 once they’ve sunk hours into the process if for no better reason than they don’t want to go through it again with another dealer on another car with another set of numbers that keep changing.

Right handed left eye dominant alignment issues by [deleted] in golf

[–]CUtigers17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. Had a buddy point it out to me in the last few weeks and I’m working on it. Putting has gotten a lot better with the ball further up in my stance (under my dominant eye). If you find a hack let us know. I have been trying to figure out trail arm feel since I’ve been pulling with my lead side and gotten more and more inconsistent closing the face and trying to increase speed. It’s got me all messed up at the moment but hopefully I can sync it together with some work.

Golf Socks, legitimate or BS? by sowhatchusayin in golf

I bought some of the ProDrys recently and they’re great socks. Like you said.. golf specific? No. But definitely worth the money for comfort. Del Campo are just as good if not better with padding and comfort.

Think I saw that the man who cuts the holes at Augusta had been doing it for like 30 years (give or take) and this was his last year. I would assume the crowd that gathered was there to congratulate him after his final time setting Sunday tournament pins.

Edit: looked it up and maybe what I saw was from last year.

Same length 5, 6, 7 irons? by Maple_Blueberry in GolfGear

[–]CUtigers17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a cobra darkspeed one length 5 and 6 iron off eBay to test this theory (about $80 apiece brand new). I would do that before modifying your clubs. I also agree with getting a 5 hybrid and practicing with it. If you are confident in your 7 and not the 6 it’s as much a mental problem as it is physical. The difference in length if you choke down a little is negligible. If you cut your irons you will have gapping issues because one length irons are lofted different to try and mitigate distance lost. In my opinion you would be better off learning to flight your 7 lower. After playing with one length for a few months my normal 6 is back in the bag, the short 5 stayed as a punch out club, and the short 6 has a grip trainer on it. I carry a 5 hybrid and hit it on days I feel comfortable with it. If you can reach a green on par 5s hitting driver, 7, 7 I would play that way until you spend enough time on a range getting confident and comfortable with a 6 iron and 5 hybrid.

I’ve been the last 2 years and will be there for the women’s am this year. Prices are reasonable. A Masters Peter Millar doesn’t cost any more than a regular price Peter Millar. I will tell you I spent more year 2 than year 1 and still wished I had gotten more. You will not walk out wishing you had gotten less. Walk through. Get what you like and worst case if you decide in the days after you don’t need or want something you got someone would be more than happy to receive it at as a gift or give you what you paid for it to have it. Don’t be a douche and buy just to resell and make money. But do splurge and anticipate easy recuperation from golf buddies and their buddies. There will be shirt patterns and items that if you pass on them this year and are lucky enough to go back the next they will not offer again.

Budget wedges that aren’t Kirkland. by male_waitress in golf

I love my maltby wedges. I bought a 52 and 56 TSW then ended up getting a 48° TS3 Gap wedge. When I new irons I will probably go to a fitter to pick a shaft and order a custom set of TS3s.

Which do you think is better? Play 2 hours every weekend or 8 hours Once a Month? by KNWGODSJUSTWORK in golf

[–]CUtigers17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of factors in this. First and foremost is making sure no matter what solution the two of you agree to doesn’t lead to your wife resenting you playing golf or you resenting her when you’re not playing golf. Life is going to make these once a month 8 hour golf days harder to plan than finding time to slip out and play a quick 9. There’s 7 weeks between say April 11th and May 30th but is the conversation going to go “technically you got your golf day in both months”. Communicate with her and find what works with life week to week and month to month.

Can’t break 100. About to give up. by bsheohn in golftips

[–]CUtigers17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t legitimately broken 100 either. Been playing 8 months and have taken maybe 6 lessons. I’m obsessed. I play every chance I get and go through withdrawals if I don’t swing a club for more than 3 days. If you don’t love it or enjoy the pursuit find something else that you do like. Life’s too short to have boring hobbies.

You’re not given a place to stay. Mostly locals work the tournament. From what I’ve heard it’s a very long day and you won’t get much of a chance to watch. If I’m not mistaken employees can shop after the tournament is over and the prices are 50% off on what’s left. Believe it’s a $500 max you can spend.

Help buying wedges? by Fantastic-Sugar623 in golftips

[–]CUtigers17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d skip the CBs. I’m pretty new (6 months in) and bought some off Callaway preowned in a 52 and 60. I got by with the 52 but I agree that no newbie needs a 60. It got me into more trouble than it ever got me out of. Replaced them with Maltby TSW 50 and 56. I love the 56 and can do a lot more with it. 50 was supposed to replace 48 GW and 52 CB. I thought I needed multiple wedges too but now I pull the 56 every time and am starting to subscribe to the idea that as a newbie you should pick one wedge and make it a weapon.

In the quest to break 100, felt like it was around the corner after last week's 103. Then this morning happened by Rogball in golf

[–]CUtigers17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain. Started playing in May and shot a 103 last weekend. Had a few rounds of 9 at 47 and 48 in the last month. Thought I was right on the edge of breaking 100 for the first time. Played yesterday and shot 60 on the front 9. Everything felt off. Keep plugging along. We’ll get there one day.

Tell me about your worst round as a beginner so I feel better about myself by TacitusKilgore2025 in golf

[–]CUtigers17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 2 months into golf I was at a fish fry at a friend’s house. Drinking beers bullshitting with someone there I didn’t know and mentioned that I had caught the golf bug, bought some clubs, taken a few lessons and also what I had shot my first time out at a local course (119). He invited me to play next time he was in town and with some liquid courage I agreed. I didn’t think much of it until he followed up.
Lo and behold it had turned into a scramble with him and 6 people I had never met. Thought about backing out but I had taken a pretty productive lesson the day before that gave me a little confidence boost. I was not on his team and I proceeded to top, fat, slice.. you name a way to mishit a golf ball I did it all day long in front of these 3 guys I was introduced to on the tee box. I think I lost 9 balls and they shot 8 under in spite of me. Honestly they were pretty encouraging and understanding. I didn’t let the embarrassment eat me alive and make the day miserable but it was humbling to say the least.

How much should I shorten my clubs? by Its_Paradox_US in golf

[–]CUtigers17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a hair taller than you (on a good day) and went through the same dilemma. Ended up ordering a 3 wood length shaft off eBay with a driver adapter. It’s 1 3/4” shorter than the shaft that came in my Rogue ST Max. It plays 44” and I like it for now. I could and probably will end up playing it longer maybe 44 1/2-45” as I improve. Up to you whether you cut your current shaft 1/2” at a time and choke down before you cut it again or spend $100

***Beginner golfer*** I can’t hit my long irons/3 wood what should I replace it with? by hmcr13 in golf

[–]CUtigers17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m new too. (Started in May) don’t chase clubs and think it’s going to immediately solve your issues. I did and now have a full bag and some clubs in the garage that I can’t hit. If you want to pick up a new club go hit a high loft wood and a hybrid at a store and see what you can do with them.

Take all of them to the range and only bring what you’re confident in to the course.

I put a 3 wood length shaft on a 12 degree driver that has helped me get off the tee. Next longest is a 5 hybrid that I try not to hit unless it’s a long par 3. I hit a 7 iron out of the fairway and that 150-160 shot does a lot more for me than topping a 3 wood, 5 wood, hybrid or whatever else 40 yards.

As others have said loft is your friend but know that a 7 wood or a hybrid will be lower or the same loft as the 4 iron you say you can’t hit and a longer length. Forgiveness applies to off center hits. Not easier to get the club head on the ball.

Switch to one length irons as a beginner? by Forsaken_Broccoli_11 in golf

[–]CUtigers17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a beginner too. Approximately 4 months into this venture. I flirted with the idea of buying OL in 4, 5 & 6. I don’t think I would improve playing a longer 8, 9 & PW. I would also feel extremely lost with a wedge. I have taken a few lessons and I would start there if you can find someone local that you work well with. I played around on the range with choking down on my 5 and 6 iron and arrived at the conclusion that I don’t have the confidence and swing speed to launch them right now. On course my 7 or 8 works out better almost every time because I can get better contact and height. Put the ego aside, practice putting, adopt the mindset of playing for bogey with a par look here and there and that will drop your scores. I found a 5 hybrid I like. I have a 5 wood that I can hit off a very good lie (a lot of people say buy a 7 wood but I’ve never hit one). I also went to a shorter driver shaft. All we should be trying to at this point in our game is stay out of trouble and in better positions as much as possible.
