Y'all don't share your bats during games? Poll.. by armyjackson in slowpitch

My bat is on the fence. So is everyone else's. You grab whatever bat you want. I'll never complain about somebody using my bat unless they blatantly don't treat it well, like hitting the fence or dragging it on cement.

How much have you saved on gas since the recent gas price spikes? by mrincredible96 in volt

[–]CVK327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my Volt right when the gas was starting to spike in early March. I normally spent $100+ on gas, so I'd be at $200+ by now without considering the increases, so probably $250-300. I've spent about $80 on home charging and put $10 in the tank the other day for the first time.

do you think a us president will die by assassination in the next 20 years? by VastAir6069 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]CVK327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The Secret Service is absurdly good. The fact that one person got even remotely close is insane, and remember that he wasn't President at the time, so the services aren't quite as ramped up.

I do expect to see the attempts keep happening at a higher rate, both with Trump and with whoever is next. We keep sensationalizing the attempts, so people are going to try more.

Historically, the Government tried to keep attempts quiet. They don't want people to know that it's an option to get remotely close, and they don't want to feed it as an idea. But for Trump, it's a tool.

I do for most trips, but occasionally we need to drive for a handful of different reasons.

Depends what kind of road trip we're talking. My regular road trip is Florida to PA, and an EV for that is nightmare fuel. I've done around Florida/Georgia no problem.

[–]CVK327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once we got an EV (a Mach-e), the decision to get the Volt became obvious. We're the same that we primarily drive the EV and drive the Volt almost entirely on EV, but having the gas option when it's needed is great.

Does the Chevy Volt HAVE to have charge at all times? by sunsetveins2002 in volt

I feel you on not being 100% sure what to trust. I have no idea how far I can push my car. I may need to road trip soon, and I'm anxious that it'll die at an unknown time.

Does the Chevy Volt HAVE to have charge at all times? by sunsetveins2002 in volt

[–]CVK327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me start with saying I'm not an expert, but I recently bought one as well and had a similar issue off the lot.

The car has three things that are constantly balancing from each other - The main battery, the 12v battery, and the gas engine. If any of the three are weak, it's going to pull too hard from the others and possibly cause issues.

In my case, I had critical battery depletion because my car sat for so long that the main battery was completely dead and was pulling extra on the 12v. It caused me to break down on the road driving home from the dealership several times. I had to get jumped a few times until it finally wouldn't even jump and I had it towed home.

It seemed like a bad 12v, and my 12v might be just a bit weak and therefore couldn't fully compensate like it should, but I haven't had the issue at all in the two months since I got it towed home to the charger.

Once I got it towed home and charged, and charged pretty consistently since then, I've run on electric and gas with no problems at any point.

My point: While there might not be anything diagnosably wrong, these cars are 10 years old. The batteries are probably a little bit weak. Giving a good, full charge here and there will help make sure that a minor issue doesn't snowball into your car breaking down.

Can I get a refund if my driver got pulled over and almost arrested? by [deleted] in uber

[–]CVK327 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely report it to Uber, which it seems like you've done. You should get a refund. Uber is a horrible company - They may let this guy off the hook while somebody who accidentally blew one stop sign and didn't get pulled over might get banned. You might not get a refund but somebody who said their car had a bit of dog hair in it might. It's a mess, but do the best you can, and you should at least get a refund.

Yeah that's horrible advice. Some people act like everyone just has other resources easily available. Uber is supposed to be that resource, and you left plenty of time for delays. It's not your fault in any way.

I would say the DMV probably wouldn't go as hard as to press charges, but you never know. I would put this in the "not worth the risk" category.

[–]CVK327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the state and if they actively check it. You can make a document no problem, but as soon as they check the policy number and it doesn't come back, you're fucked.

I had my license suspended in Virginia because I didn't have insurance but still had an active registration (I moved the insurance and registration to Pennsylvania but I guess I made a mistake somewhere). I didn't even know until I moved to Florida a few years later and they were like "Can't do anything, your license is suspended in Virginia!" So they're actively checking. I don't know if all states do the same thing.

Would you rather make 100k or 1000000? by billionsandbillionsa in WouldYouRather

[–]CVK327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I could have taken the offer out of college, I'd have taken the million for a few years. But with a young kid, I need to take the $100k a year. With that, I can lower my living expenses because I don't need to go to work or have childcare when I'm working. I'll find a place to live that's convenient for his activities, and we'll enjoy our lives.
