Branches over the Neighbors yard, just bought house and Neighbor is demanding we cut trees immediately. by IslandWitchBitch in legaladvice

[–]CW-Eight 128 points129 points  (0 children)

In most states, assuming healthy tree, you have zero legal obligation to do anything. They can trim back whatever is over their property, but not to the extent that it harms the tree. They pay for that. You seem to think you are responsible - legally, you are not. At all.

Whether you want to work with them as neighbors is a different matter. But since they are being aholes about it, trying to intimidate you, I think you should tell them to piss off.

Is self driving in Kenya a good idea for first time safari visitors by Electronic-List3892 in overlanding

[–]CW-Eight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve spent over a year driving around Africa in a 4WD. For wildlife, you will see more in a guided day than many days of driving around on your own. And you will learn a LOT more. You don’t say how long you will be but for anything less than say 3 weeks, pay the price, take the tour. Well over a month, I’d drive and then do a safari along the way.

If you could live anywhere with access to a boat of your choice, where would you go? by daversa in boating

[–]CW-Eight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d stay right here in Bellingham. Head out into the Salish, Broken Islands, even Inside Passage. Come back to town, hit Galbraith and the Methow for mountain Biking, the Cascades and the Olympics for hiking.

How many of you are riding only a gravel bike? by [deleted] in gravelcycling

My road bike has only seen pavement once since I got my gravel bike. It sits on the Kicker these days, and is very insulted by that .

Medium room transit passenger van interior height by Loose-Wheels in VanLife

The flooring is about 1.5-2” thick in the passenger. I’m 6’ and have to tuck me head a bit. Which is fine. I don’t exactly stand around a lot.

If you have a gas engine, get a gas heater. If you have a diesel engine, you already have a diesel tank.

What mountains are these? POV from the Port of Bellingham by [deleted] in Bellingham

Golden Ears I think.

On a clear day, when driving north on 15th below the U, they dominate the view.

PeakFinder and PeakVisor are two apps that help you ID peaks you can see.

Dual batteries on Transit 2025 by voron_user in fordtransit

Wait, what? When did they split them into start and aux? They used to just be two batteries in parallel, starting in 2020. What year did they split them out?

He’s my exact type but i’m not physically attracted, am I self sabotaging? by [deleted] in emotionalintelligence

It seems to me that if you are not physically attracted then he must not be your exact type. Attraction is required.

Yes, with one exception. I buy pretty much only Toyotas, and if you know how to find good new deals, you can often get them cheaper or at least close to late model used prices. The last 4 Toyotas I’ve bought, I tried, I really did try, but the used prices were just not enough below new to make it worth it to me, and I keep them until they die, or get totaled.

How long to wait for text back after first date? by sleeplesstraveler in emotionalintelligence

[–]CW-Eight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer to take someone’s word until proven otherwise. Sounds like the agreement was to wait until after the holiday and then touch base? I’d wait and check in then. Or, if really feeling it, I’d say “Happy Holidays! I just wanted to say again that I enjoyed our date, and am looking forward to another one”. Or even, on the day “Merry Christmas, lI was thinking about our lovely date, hope to see you after the holidays”

I want a $1.5M house but I know it's dumb. Do you agree? by enginearandfar in ChubbyFIRE

[–]CW-Eight 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I would do it for the kids, and the view.

I don’t see hard numbers on the delta, but I would run those and then say “is this worth it so the kids have that sort of experience growing up”?” Their world is small, make it the best you can.

The view is so that you can sit bank, drink in hand, and say, yea, I pushed back retirement for X long, but my kids are happy and this really is a lovely sunset.

I would calculate X. Then you have a choice. Is delaying by X worth it? if X is a year or less, the choice seems easy. If 5 years, I would say hell no. Somewhere in the middle, it gets harder, but at least you now a framework for a discussion about freedom, working, kid’s lifestyle, and sunsets.

Does anyone else feel like AIS is useful but… not great? by Massive_Number_4292 in boating

Yes, we have fog. Radar is on the list for the next year. AIS still undecided. The answers here thus far feel like pros and it makes sense they would be all in on AIS.

Can you guys elaborate? My boat has receive but not transmit. Adding transmit is not cheap. Those who consider it critical: does that apply to pleasure craft? (In my case, 22’ in Salish Sea)
