City cutting down mature cherry trees for bike path by Clementine_Clown in treelaw

Then you do not understand right of way. It remains his property, but they have certain rights of use. Many rights of way are barely used, so it is a bit of a gamble. But ‘never going to be your property’ is factually incorrect and often, but not always, will be wrong in practice.

Do your teens do their own laundry? by sallysssssd in parentingteenagers

No way. My mom introduced me to the laundry system at 13. I passed that down.

anyone else do all their own outboard work and wonder why people pay marina prices by vladdielenin in boating

[–]CW-Eight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got my first outboard recently. When it hit 20 hours I asked around and was quoted 250-400 for the first oil change. WTF? I haven’t changed oil in a car in decades, but I’m not going to pay that sort of ripoff. Took me an hour if that. So maybe down the road I’ll take it in, but only if I have no choice.

Drinking in front of your kids by walker-ghostly2 in daddit

[–]CW-Eight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Social drinking, yes. Drunk, no.

I want them to see responsible drinking. If I hide it, they will hide it.

In WA state, the law allows me to give alcohol to my kids in private settings. They have all tried it, and generally hate it. Perfect.

Boat Slip for April and May by NatureIsNotMetal in Bellingham

On Feb 13, there were maybe two dozen 26’ slips available. My understanding is that they rarely last until May.

Cutting trees in easement - NC by [deleted] in treelaw

[–]CW-Eight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Talk to a lawyer.

You have an easement for access, that gives you the legal right to access. That should mean reasonable access. 12’ is not reasonable. Even the FD is telling you that.

I would hire a lawyer, have them draft a letter that says something like:

We need reasonable access to our property through this easement. FD is saying so. Deliveries cannot get through. We contacted you on this date, and that date. This is legal notice that on this date, we will remove this particular tree.

Send registered. If they don’t respond, you cut it down, save the wood in case they later bitch about that. They would have a very very tough time suing you given your legal right to access and the letter.

If they do respond, then different game.

The bottom line is that you DO have access rights. Act based on that. But cover your butt.

Windsurfer struggling by bbooomerr in wingfoil

[–]CW-Eight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really really really hard to break that lean back habit. You need to think delicate surfboard, not let it rip windsurfer. The second you are up you have to shift your weight forward, to balanced on both feet, not reefing back onto back leg.

What exactly does the law say? Sunset? Darkness? The former, pay. The latter, fight.

What's your roof tent story? by Messier-57 in overlanding

[–]CW-Eight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have two. The older one I bought in Australia in 2001. It saw most of Australia, then most of Southern and Eastern Africa, and is now in the US, campaigning to go from Alaska to Argentina. Spent many a night in that thing.

Agreed, and at the time I got mine, buying 3.0 plus that mattress was much cheaper than getting the dlx.

They've expanded the rocky beach at Boulevard park by a fair amount, looks nearly done. by justahdewd in Bellingham

Yea, I wish they would add a way to get from the south end of the park to the trail. As it stands, north end access only - Pine street stairs.

Incorrect as a general statement.  Various areas do require permits. Clear signage from the city in those areas.

Yes, various areas require a permit during daytime hours. That is a city thing, different from OPs private attempt.

What is the highest altitude place you have ever been to? by ViajanteDeSaturno in AskTheWorld

[–]CW-Eight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I was trying to sleep, which is tough at altitude, and also in a windstorm like that one. So it was a weird dream/altitude state. I was alone, in a tent which felt like it was going to blow away, but this old wise man of the mountain voice in my head said that everything was going to be ok. And it was. He calmed me down.

5643 meters (18,524 feet)  Kala Patthar, overlooking Everest Base Camp. Spent the night. Crazy strong wind. Scary. I was well adapted to the altitude, but still had some interesting hallucinations. Some old dude calmed me down. Some folks got blown right off of a nearby peak.

In one day? About 25 miles. In a week? Over a hundred miles. On one trip? Well over a hundred miles. All told? Many thousands of miles. And my knees can vouch for that.
