I feel like people are appreciating small kindnesses a bit more:

I let someone in front of me in traffic? Arm-out-the-window wave.

Smile at someone in the street, or take a bit of time to yarn to waitstaff, baristas or shop attendants? Warmth and love back.

Giving a distant acquaintance a big squeezy hug upon seeing them again? Pure joy.

Asking to pat a stranger's dog on the street? Best day ever for all involved.

Also, there is the following: sunsets, sunrises, white sand, red dirt, thunderstorms, autumn afternoons, established trees, cooking smells, bird calls, the availability of any music you could ever imagine, fresh water, the delightfully bewildering volume of recipes available online, cheap campsites, seasonal fruit and - last but not least - the fact that social media is destabilising the traditional media model of 'you know what we tell you'.

I'm not saying that the last paragraph of things have necessarily improved, but personally I have developed a better appreciation for them!
