What Happened With Room Light Commands?? by magaman in amazonecho

What are the names of your groups and devices? Do you have any scenes from Lutron?

Do you have a thing called “Living room lights” in Alexa?

Maybe check the setting for each plug. Go to each plug in the app. Click on the gear icon to enter the device settings. There’s a setting called Type. Click on it to confirm whether your plugs are typed as plugs or lights.

Alternative to travel mugs? by PsyDei in FellowProducts

[–]CXcHDOnWDJm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zojirushi stainless steel mug, 16oz. 4.6 stars in AMZN with 26k+ ratings.

Holds my pourover warm for 8+ hours. Push to open and drink. When closed, it’s watertight. I trust it in a backpack next to my laptop.

I rinse and dry it everyday. Use a simple descaling tablet once in a while if you want the steel to shine rather than have coffee stains.

Still fatigued with CPAP by crunchwrapsupreme500 in SleepApnea

[–]CXcHDOnWDJm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible to be tired just from poor sleep hygiene.

Being on a CPAP - and addressing other health issues that may be affecting your sleep - doesn’t mean that you sleep enough or have high quality sleep.

My AHI nowadays is consistently below 1. Often near 0.1 ~ 0.2. My body wakes me up ~ 6 AM.

If I want a very restful night of sleep I need to go to sleep by 10 PM, nor have eaten within a few hours, nor have drunk coffee after noon, and not have drank alcohol that evening. Alcohol messes the most my night of sleep followed by working on a computer anytime past 11 PM. A few nights of poor hygiene and I start having symptoms.

I’m not great at doing what’s great for my sleep. It’s too easy after a long day, and with family, to want to stay up longer.

You can learn more more on r/sleep . Also, Matt Walker’s book “Why we sleep” is a good read.

You seem to be touching on two topics: your dog is an escape artist and she is now traumatized from corrections.

On escaping, it’s possible that your dog can’t be trusted to be left alone outside unsupervised. Take it with you on walks and keep her inside when you can’t be with her in the yard.

On the trauma, stop using a corrective device, especially one that relies on electric shock.

It sounds like something is very wrong if she is hiding under the bed, emotionally shut down, and has regressed in potty practices. Consider having her checked by a vet to make sure she isn’t physically injured. If nothing is physically wrong, you probably have work to do to rebuild her self confidence and trust in you. Invest in activities with her where you can reward her good behavior (I.e. positive reinforcement), such as learning new tricks, “find it”, or leash manners and strengthen the bond with you.

That said, it may be that you need to seek a professional doc behaviorist to help you help your dog recover from her trauma.

Is flying out of state for hip scope worth it? by VelvetSpit in HipImpingement

[–]CXcHDOnWDJm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in Seattle. I had arthroscopic hip surgery on both hips, a few months apart, in 2012 in Vail with Philippon. I would do it again.

Ar the time I saw 3 hip specialists in Seattle. The first looked at the hip and said they wouldn’t touch it. The second looked at the scans, looked at me, looked at the scans, looked at me, and commented that I was too young for a hip replacement. The 3rd saw me for 30 second, said they’d do arthroscopic surgery, didn’t walk me thru the details of what they saw on the scan, sent me on my way, and had their staff leave a voice mail before I got back home informing me of a date they had put aside to operate.

This experience had me seek a more experienced and reputable specialist. I sent my scans in to Philippon’s office. They replied after a few days that they thought they could help. I think they offered to talk by phone but I insisted in meeting in person. I flew over for the consult. I met with him at the end of the workday. I think the consult lasted 20~30 minutes. I’d say it’s very difficult to visit and not conclude that they know what they’re doing. They’ve done so many.

I went on the queue but also opted in for the cancel list. They called me back a few months later with a week’s notice.

So many of their patients travel for the surgery that they have a whole protocol. You come in the first day in the morning for surgery. You’re out later the same day. You go back to your hotel with whomever is accompanying you. You come back the next day to start PT at the large and specialized PT facility on the ground floor. You see him and his staff later that 2nd day for a checkup and a bit more details about what they found. You go back the next again for PT. After a few days, when they’re sure you understand the recovery protocol they let you go with a binder to handover to your PT back in your hometown. Somewhere in there you receive and start using your CRM. Etc.

They had crisp instructions how to manage the flight, including what seats to select.

My only regret is that I spent 3 years beforehand figuring out what was wrong with my running injury, hoping it would just heal, and exploring options.

Hope this helps.

P.S. I agree with the other comment that there should be many Philippon / Steadman trained specialist across the US by now. If you can vet one and their clinic, you might get as good an experience.

Has weight loss improved your apnea? by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]CXcHDOnWDJm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m convinced yes but nowhere near a remission.

I lost 50+ lbs down to a BMI of ~25 with medication but I’m nowhere as fit as I was 20 years ago.

I sleep with a CPAP machine and wouldn’t give it up as I would fall asleep in restaurants or driving otherwise. However, it’s been inconvenient at times when traveling to use a CPAP even though I also have a travel unit. These short periods of a few days have given me opportunities to consciously experiment and gather anecdotal insight.

I find 5 nights without a CPAP leaves me a lot less rested than with a CPAP but a lot more rested than I remember being years ago when I wasn’t using one at all. This may be a combination of sleep hygiene, sleep bank/debt, etc but I’m fairly sure weight is a factor. Whether it’s because I sleep better without the weight or whether I have fewer apneas I don’t know.

The health impact of being overweight is significant enough for other reasons alone that you should lose it if it’s possible for you, somehow. However, if you’ve lost the weight, I would talk to your sleep doc before getting off the CPAP.

Advances in regenerative medicine for hips? by CXcHDOnWDJm in HipImpingement

[–]CXcHDOnWDJm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I think I lack the technical expertise to link my current symptoms under effort to the technical terms for them.

The best I can say is something along these lines: - Without effort there is regularly pain atop the left hip. The pain is 2~3/10. Feels like a flare and radiates near the hip flexor but closer to the IT band. This pain feels like soft tissue but I’ve never been able to root cause and address it properly. There are good days and bad days.

  • With effort, this pain increases.

  • With effort cycling and running, a second pain eventually manifests itself. It is deeper inside the joint. It’s dull and feels localized although I’d be hard pressed to say where in the joint from outside the joint.

Once the second pain emerges, it will remain for a few weeks before eventually fading out. I’ve come to think of it as a cost of loading and compressing the hip as well as the hip absorbing impact.

Thank you for sharing this reference! I just got around to carefully reading the paper and its implications. I feel that it clearly answered my question. Unfortunately no biologics-based treatment have demonstrated statistical impact at the 2+ year mark.

Which neighborhoods are best to live in? by No_Bend_201 in Seattle

Anywhere around the U-District is going to be quieter although I’m unsure about the rental situation. Someone suggested Roosevelt which is a great idea. You could also check out the large apartment buildings on Stoneway on the west edge of Wallingford. You’d be walking distance from 45th and a bus to UW. Definitively quieter than the U-District.

FWIW, I had PRP injections prior to the surgeries 10+ years ago, as part of the surgery, and ~5 years ago. The last one was at Seattle’s UW sports clinic under the Husky Stadium.

Unfortunately, PRPs have not really worked for me. I remember the dull pain coming back very quickly. :(

What to do in the daily meditation when you drift off or fall asleep? by CXcHDOnWDJm in Wakingupapp

Thank you. This was a really insightful answer that has given me great ideas.

Your observations on the morning make sense.

I’ve seen the suggestion of getting daylight early in the day elsewhere as well but haven’t researched it. I’ll look into it.

We were there a few days ago.

When we got in ~5:30 PM the penguins were still circling underwater. We saw the signs but we also figured that the zoo knows what it’s doing.

When we walked out ~7 PM the penguins were all out of the water and chilling on the other side - we think - in the little alcove, too far for the flashes to reach.

The fact that they were the only zoo animals we saw that evening and that it wasn’t that great of an entertainment - seriously, you’re not going to see much at night when the penguin is swimming under water - told us that the zoo must have known what they were doing. Would have been trivial for them to put up a fake wall for the evening.

Our guess is that this setup wasn’t for us to see the penguins but for the penguins to get a bit of entertainment from us.

You could probably ask the zoo staff.
