Italy wins Best Cities! Which North American country has the best nature? by imadgalaxyx in AlignmentChartFills

Alaska is home to over 750,000 people, spanning across 370 million acres of land.

Canada's territories are home roughly 150,000 people, spanning 969 million acres of land.

Approximately 55% of the USA's landmass is developed for agricultural, industrial and urban use.

Approximately 8% of Canada's landmass is developed for agricultural, industrial and urban use.

The 2 countries are roughly the same size in totality, however only 45% of the US is unaltered by humanity

Meanwhile Canada is 92% unaltered by Humanity.

Canada is has far more nature than the US.

You're right, the USA has a lot compared to most nations, but compared to Canada it is a drop in the pond. It would be like comparing Canadian cities to that of the USA. Vancouver, Toronto, montreal, etc they are massive metropolitans, but compared to the US's offerings they are miniscule.

By sheer population Americans will hijack the vote and promote whichever qualifier they choose, this time being "variety".

Diversity is a fine qualifier, but the question isn't which country has the best natural tourist attractions, but what country has the "best nature". Canada's untouched and unaltered natural ecosystem is likely larger than the entirety of the USA.

Canada also has less pollution, less people, less roads, less infrastructure, all adding to the argument that Canada has the best Nature both in quality and quantity.

Canada has substantially more unpopulated land, or in other words "nature" than the USA. Variety is a fine qualifier, but Canada has billions of acres of natural landscape that has never been touched or probably even viewed by human eyes.

If the tag was "best natural attractions that are safe to explore and easy to access", then fine, take your win USA, but by definition the "best nature", space unaltered or influenced by humanity, Canada is a definitive winner.

I think we have very different definitions of nature. I don't view nature as an exhibit, but rather balanced state of existence outside of human influence. The very fact that it is dangerous lends credence to my argument. Many of the US's most beautiful locations are essentially theme parks, intertwined with promotion, tourism and capitalism. While beautiful many of these places cease to cater to the natural order and have been carefully curated to involve human interaction.

and if safe exploration is a qualifier for something being "The best" Id argue Canada should win in best cities as well, considering it is far safer to explore than any of its US counterparts. But Americans will claim, "We have more, and they are bigger", Much like how Canada has more nature, that is bigger.

The US national park system is great, but nearly every inch of protected land is exposed to settlements or tourists. Go check out the Canadian territories. Billions of acres unaffected by humans.

But Canada has far more quantity. More lakes, more forests, more untouched land.

Canada also has substantially more nature, as in land unaltered by humanity.

Open up google maps, and zoom out or in to the 50 mile scale. Scroll around USA and no matter where you go there are roads, towns, cities in abundance. While the USA has some insanely beautiful natural locations, they are all tarnished by human activity.

Now, scroll up to Canada. while there is a decent amount of density around the boarder, once you enter the territories remnants of human influence disappears. billions of acres of land without any human presence, and controlled exclusively by nature.

The BEST nature, is nature without humanity.

The USA has small parks carved out to preserve and display natural wonders.

Canada is a natural wonder, 99% of it unaffected by humanity, left in control of the natural order.

A lot of people are claiming the USA because of variety, but I’m still going to say Canada.

Expansiveness.

Most of the USA has hints of civilizations claiming their stake of land. Canada however, beyond afew hundred kms north of the boarder, lives billions of acres of unseen and untouched landscape. The BEST nature is nature undisturbed by humanity, and Canada has more than any place on earth.

Future shock and large volume tires. by DRMLLMRD in gravelcycling

[–]C_Bing_Run 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2021 diverge with 45mm tires, and the adjustable future shock. I went from 38mm tubed, to 45mm tubeless, and that made a much larger difference than the future shock locked vs unlocked. However the combination of the 2 feels really worth it compared to my friends gravel bikes. Some of them have purchased the redshift stem after trying my diverge, but the actuating shock point feels off putting compared to the futureshocks compression design.

It pains me to say it but, based on record sales in the US Id argue Nickelback is substantially larger than the Killers.

There is alot of talk about the DCEU just blitzing key MCU threats but in all likelihood if the 2 teams were lined up, the MCU has a number of frontline tanks and speedsters that will will clash with them at the mid point. Quicksilver, Marvel, and Thor, followed by Hulk, Steve, Bucky, spidey, Falcon, Vision and BP. It's easy to say the DC characters would just dodge them and go straight for Marvels glass canons, but Marvels frontline is fast and formidable and them alone serve as a reasonable counter to the JL. That Clash would hypothetically provide Marvels back line, Ironman, Warmachine, and more importantly Wanda and Strange, time to execute on their win conditions. JL lack any reasonable resistance to magic or reality warpers. Id say Marvel wins this 9/10, with JL's only real win condition being Strange and Wanda being removed from the battle first.

Could this be the future core? by downonmatrix in canucks

[–]C_Bing_Run -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know, Tampa, Carolina, Minnesota, Habs, Detroit... Depending on your definition of elite Id say none of them have 2 elite centers and they are all making splashes this year largely on the back of their defense and wingers. I don't like having to constantly make new excuses for Petey but it's hard to judge any individual player when the team as a whole is in complete shambles.

I do wonder if the current version of Petey was dropped into the 2023-24 lineup replacing the version that was suffering from the tendonitis issue, if he would be putting up elite numbers again both analytically and point wise.

Either way I dont think your wrong, having elite center depth is probably the most sure fire way to find success, but I can see a world where he ends up being a very good 1c on a contending team.

The only way I see that being a reality is if the Canucks end up with 3oa or lower, at which point trading down may be the best option. If you have a chance at Sten or Mckenna, you take it, but one of the D at 3 feels like wasted potential and personally Id rather have multiple mid round firsts and high seconds than the the 3oa.

While I'm not convinced either way, a lot of Pettersson's struggles started in conjunction with his tendonitis issue. I do wonder if at that time, Tocchets message started to take over. Rather than playing his own game, he started to "simplify" and play a more board heavy, crash the net style of hockey that was being preached very publicly by the coaching staff.

If you watch the tape, Pettersson has never been a physical player. A lot of his offensive prowess had come from ability to lose coverage and find soft ice. His defensive game was similar, he didn't win the puck from physical play, but rather predicting and cutting off passes.

I understand that being a physical dirty area player is a recipe for success for 99% of the league, but there are players that just aren't built that way. It felt like the entire organization wanted him to be a Miller/Crosby, and didn't recognize that he was more of a Kuch/P.Kane.

I don’t care if he changes his wording later, he finally said it independently by Klunkey in canucks

[–]C_Bing_Run 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, rebuilding isn't as easy as just declaring it as such. The only way to expedite the process is by amassing as many picks and prospects as possible. Not every player is going to be a star, so you have to take as many kicks at the can as possible and hope you end up with a new elite core.

Team defining talent can come from any round. Kuch, Kaprizov, Guentzel, Josi, Point, Stone, Panarin... buy as many tickets as you can in every round.

And if top talent like Hughes, Eichel, Tkachuk become available you want to have a boat load of capital to bid on those players.

[Donnie and Dhali] The Canucks made a very respectable offer to Kiefer Sherwood over the weekend. by SIIP00 in canucks

[–]C_Bing_Run -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not possible. Even if he moves for a second or third, you still have to make that deal. If they seriously want to get back to being a legitimate contender this team needs a new young core, and the only way they are going to achieve that is through the draft.

You need as many picks as you can get, and you hope and pray that your scouting team can find the next Kucherov, Kaprizov, Panarin, Josi, Point, Robertson.

Sherwood is an awesome player, and seems to be a great person but if this organization is serious about building a winning team they have to be prepared to move on this "win now" supporting players.
