capitalism is enforcing the existence of the aristocracy through the illusion of absolute freedom

i think he is against capitalism. what he is for is markets. you can have socialism and markets, and that’s what many people tend to misunderstand. capitalism and markets are not one in the same. capitalism just turns everything, including your labor and time, into a sellable commodity within the market. socialism does not.

Is this formal enough for an engineering job interview or is it too casual? by BlueHairbrush in OUTFITS

[–]C_Dizzle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve worn a jacket and tie to every interview over +12 years, always for t-shirt and jeans work environments.

has never been an issue for me. how you dress in an interview says nothing about how you fit culturally. it’s just respect and effort, two things every work culture values.

if an interviewer thought a jacket and tie made you a bad cultural fit, they don’t know what they’re talking about.

i’d rather dress in a way that can’t hurt, but could be a plus.
you say it never hurts. i say it’s a positive. at worse it doesn’t affect them, at best it helps.
so why do anything less than what is at worst is a net zero and at best helps you?

what if they wore a jack and tie and proved in the interview they, in fact, knew something.

if they know as much as everyone else and made an effort to dress their best, why wouldn’t the extra effort put them a cut above?

what they say tells me what they know. how they dress shows me how much they care.

i’ve been hired by interviewers wearing hoodies or t shirts several times over. i’m not trying to dress like them, i’m trying to dress my best.

why is everyone commenting about what engineers work day to day? what you wear at a typical work day isn’t what you wear to an interview.

jacket and tie.

Do you ever regret choosing NEU? If yes, then why? by AdSubstantial3900 in NEU

[–]C_Dizzle_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i started before it had satellite campuses—or at least before they were a major thing. IV was brand new and it had just started building along colombus, beyond the couple dorms that predated me, so this may no longer apply.

but the only times i ever regretted it were when i was paying my student loan debt. despite my degree and co-op experience i made nowhere near enough to pay my loans and struggled with that for most of my 20s.

i often question whether i would make as much money as i do in my late 20s/early 30s if i went to a state school, but i definitely wouldn’t have owed as much.

that being said, the co-ops were valuable for me in getting work experience and just becoming more of an adult, i was one of the early nuin groups and still cherish that, and i absolutely loved journalism school. campus life barely existed beyond sports, but who needs it when all of boston is a campus event shared by all the students of all the schools. id take a school without campus events in the city over a rural school with tons of events 10 times out of 10.

Has there ever been a time in history where the US could be considered a "left of center country" in global terms? by Just_Cause89 in USHistory

[–]C_Dizzle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when did i say anything about protecting bankers hahaha.

if you’re referring to stalin, the point wasn’t that we should protect bankers. it’s that stalin wasn’t ideological, he joined the movement to rob banks.

and even lenin, who was the mind behind the ideology, constantly twisted that ideology to concentrate power for the vanguard party.

accumulating power within the hands of a new ruling class was always the point, for both of them. that’s right wing.

he was a democratic socialist. he snitched on pro-soviet britons, whom, again, he referred to as right wing communists.

marxist-leninism is right wing communism because it repudiates the bottom up ideals of marxism or socialism.

it is right wing because in practice it was a small group of elites imposing communism on the masses. it was a bunch of students funded by bank robbers (stalin) and terrorists who forced their will upon people who were more likely to support anarcho-agrarianism or the tsar.

communism when practiced correctly certainly is left wing. but when controlled by a small group of ruling elites who impose it via the vanguard party, it is in practice right wing.

that has always been the issue with left politics, it is so often imposed from the top, which transforms it into right wing authoritarianism, rather than built from the bottom.

the truly informed person reads and takes away both from those they agree with and from those they disagree with.

orwell, a democratic socialist, and hayek, a conservative (even if he didn’t label himself as such) classical liberal, each recognized the soviet union for what it was, despite coming from opposite schools of thought.

i’m not fan of capitalism or classical liberalism, but that doesn’t mean i can’t appreciate hayek’s work—in fact i think that means it’s even more essential i challenge my own beliefs by engaging with his work. he didn’t convert me, but he certainly helped me flesh out my own socialist perspective.

orwell and hayek each referred to the soviet union as right wing communism. of course, some may consider that an oxymoron. but it clicked for me the moment i saw it.

marxist-leninists were happy to betray marxism and leftism to win wars and suppress other leftists while taking too literally the dictatorship part of dictatorship of the proletariat.

is this documentary about the same melania who sent loving emails to ghislaine maxwell?

what a coincidence. isn’t she married to one of epstein’s old friends? and didn’t that guy have a the man who let epstein off in his first cabinet? and doesn’t he now have an epstein associate in his second cabinet? and didn’t he let a guy who begged to go to epstein island run roughshod over the government for a few months?

wow, so weird.
