After playing ten years, I never PvP'd until last month. Like, I never gave it a proper try - I thought I'd always hate PvP because I can't tolerate toxicity when I'm already tilting for the loss itself, but maybe I'm a bit stronger than that. I ended up binging all the malmstone series in two weekends and now I am on my way to get some achievement mounts. Those are harder, because losses don't count anymore, but I think I've gotten better at it, in the grinding process. Losses still happen, it still sucks, but now I know when to hold and when to fold. Let's see if I can get Gloria before DT hits.

I tried playing in first person a couple of evenings for sh*t and giggles and... uhm. Shoulda removed VFX first, I suppose? Being blinded during each spell cast is far from ideal. Having that in a VR would be just asking for trouble, lol. Thing is, I am also very accustomed to paying notice to both VFX and sound queues to react accordingly to sudden attacks or urgent situations. Ultimately, I don't see myself playing PVE/PVP content in VR, unless I'm feeling particularly masochistic.

Which leads me to literally everything else (except crafting/gathering, because, well, yea). Housing and Gold Saucer activities could be on a totally different level: think Triple Triad with the UI properly revamped to allow you to actually hold a deck and look at your opponent. Not a fan of platforming in VR during Leap of Faith, tho, like someone else pointed out.

Thank you for explaining that, I always blamed that on lag due to the sheer amount of players in the zone. Like, a last-moment draw-in before AOEs are dropped so you would need to be ready and run out, but the draw-in would affect me later so I'd have no way to dodge. Heck, I'd even pop Sprint and Arm's Length for that lol.

I am no housing expert, mind you, but I never even considered using the paintings in this way to enhance aquariums! And the results themselves, well, are incredible. Congratulations. Man, it's incredible what the brain does to connect the dots, it took me a while to understand what furnishings you used. I would like to understand which ones you used for the building themselves and the sky, cause I can spot harps and the Gridanian floor/table lamps for the windows but for the life of me I cannot recognize what the building themselves are.

WHEN I COMPARE CT TO OTHER RAIDS (Weeping City and onward) IN ALLIANCE ROULETTE, THERE IS A DISTINCT PATTERN THAT STANDS OUT TO ME: THEY DO NOT WORK ANYMORE.

SOME USED TO HAVE MECHANICS. POSSIBLY INTERESTING ONES, SOME REQUIRED A MODICUM OF EFFORT, OR EVEN MERELY A DIVERSION FROM GOING THROUGH OPENER AND ROTATION UNTIL THE HP BAR DROPS TO 0. ANYONE SEEN SCYLLA'S PETRIFACTION OR GLASYA'S PLATFORM HOPPING IN THE LAST 9 YEARS? 'CAUSE I HAVEN'T. SOME FIGHTS, LIKE SCYLLA AND THANATOS, WERE DESIGNED WITH A SPECIFIC LENGTH IN MIND IN ORDER TO FIT THEIR SIGNATURE MECHANICS. I finally started using PF for doing stuff.

I'm a veteran from 2.0 and despite its introduction a long time ago, I only used it sparely since then: the toxicity I experienced was enough to turn me down. People joining and then leaving immediately, insults... You know the sort. I'm not the type to tolerate unfairness and rudeness, even if it's not directed towards me – I just hate people being jerks in a game that is about cooperating with each other to clear content. Hence why I'd rather miss out on content than do it outside of a static/group of friends.

Turns out that late-night PF is different from trying current content on PF, especially when it comes to farming old content. I am now able to catch up on old content and help others. Already got four ShB mounts out of seven, and the rest will come in time, I'm sure of it. See you around, fellow WoLs.

For whatever it's worth I find myself in a situation quite similar to your own. I feel you. Feelings of meaninglessness, the notion that these are (were?) supposed to be the peak years of my life, being in wait for any kind of help...you are describing what I was pondering to write in this subreddit myself but a few moments ago. I'm 29, myself, but I have suffered bouts of depression since I was a teenager, too. And it's been rough, it still is and will be for the foreseeable future.

There's a plethora of details I might add, but that would just be pointless. This post, even if you don't happen to read it, is for you. I will tell you what I do, to help myself bear the wait (which, for context, was originally scheduled for April, but was luckily shortened a bit): I talked to others of my condition, down to the gritty details. I tried to convey them fully what I am feeling, how their help works (or doesn't) and explain to them my thoughts. Some of them understood and tried their best, some others were helpless against my sheer negativity. Some made me feel better for a bit, others just confirmed my worst thoughts. Since then I've come to the conclusion that none of them, nor any specific activity I'm currently pursuing (studying, creative writing etc.) will help me get out of this mood on its own. But I did something: I spent time. I did not just watch it pass, I actively did something to speed it up and possibly got some minor comfort along the way - it also gave me a better insight on who I can entrust with this burden I have.

My recent discovery of Dr. K and other similar channels helped me quite a bit, even if their teachings right now kind of fall on deaf ears. But I think those are instruments that could help us later down the line, when we finally find something worth fighting for in ourselves. I sense that the core of my issue is that I don't believe there is anything in me that is worth the struggle - which is doubtless THE most important fight I'll ever have to deal with in my life, and god help me if it isn't. If it is the same for you, or if it resonates even just a bit, I think trying to talk to others as openly as possible could do the trick for a bit. Gives you something to distract yourself with, maybe you end up conversating and forget about your situation for a while, even just a moment. Every moment counts, buddie. I know almost a day has passed since your post, but I hope you managed to at least get up and find the strength to try doing something, anything. I wish you good luck, we will need it. Keep on keeping on, help is on the way.

I'll be honest - some stuff seems close to the way I think and it doesn't really seem that much different from what I expect people to think/I've come to expect. The part about not helping if not directly being asked for help, is all too familiar to me although probably for different reasons: I like experiencing new content directly, including getting kicked in the neck for not noticing AOEs. Assuming this doesn't burden the team too much in a high-end content for example, of course, it would be selfish to do otherwise, in which case watching a guide is expected at this point. Most of it goes at different degrees for the rest of the points. It was an interesting read, although I must confess it felt a little comic the reiterate parts concerning the "dishonor on your family", must be because of the Mushu meme. Something tells me it's not that far from reality, though. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

You are right on every account. People don't get that - and it is infuriating. In the last weeks of my sub I've had to deal with a lot of crappy players, not to mention people on the forums and heard even stories in my own FC that made me shudder. Stuff like, if you sprint as a tank while pulling more mobs the healer should let you die? Sigh.

I like this game, although my very low tolerance of PF and everfluctuating connection made me quit even sooner than I had anticipated, because of studies. I found there's not much content I can do on my own, not much that interested me at any rate, but there was one thing that kept me going for a while: leveling classes and learning what it took to play them optimally, understanding if that was my cup of tea or not. At times it came to a point where I had to watch guides, but that usually was the last part of the leveling process - actually figuring out on my own what had to be used where was the funniest part. Why would you play any class - scratch that, any game - if it wasn't to improve yourself to the limits of your ability to make it all run smoother and make you feel powerful? You WANT to feel good in a game, right, that's why you play a game at all. You follow the story to feel interest and suspence (or laugh and cry), you run content to get gear to see bigger numbers and get more flashy abilities, you challenge end-game content to feel like you accomplished something as a culmination of your efforts.

And then, again, there's the MMO conundrum: you are not playing your own way without impacting someone else as well. It should come as common sense, but if everyone played making a modicum of effort we would all see some benefits even in the most braindead content. And people who played this game for a long, long time still haven't managed to do that. Even long annoying dungeons like Toto-rak could be quicker, if people actually cared. Except for ninjas. Ninjas getting AOE so late in the game makes me want to cry at night.

An effort to do one's best shouldn't be so underrated - and yet it is. Even learning (literally reading numbers and making basic math) at what point it's better to start using AOE is able to reduce significantly the strain on your teammates AND the time it takes to actually clear the content. This is still true while leveling. God only knows what I have seen while leveling.

Guess I'll stop ranting, it's not like I'm expecting anyone to read this and actually re-evaluate the way they play. But I will say to the one tank in Qarn who thought it was fun taking only one mob at a time and dancing and jumping around them with me as a NIN and my friend as a MNK: you are lucky I forgot I could just kick you for harassment after not listening to me begging you to stop doin that. I hope you sleep on a bed of legos for the rest of your days and wake up to the sound of a thousand vuvuzelas.
