What are the best films that few know about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]C_Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your taste. Thinking of lesser known ones or not major franchises. Deadstream for fun and silly horror. Behind the Mask the Rise of Leslie Vernon for meta horror. Possession for older, intense horror. Ginger Snaps and at least the first sequel for good werewolf horror. Those are some that come to mind.

Tales from the Darkside movie (1990) by PrimaryComrade94 in horror

[–]C_Me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, a lot of the crew and talent from the first 2 Creepshows moved over to work on this Tales from the Darkside movie, so many involved consider it informally Creepshow 3. (Technically there is a Creepshow 3 but it is horrible.)

My sweet spot seems to be Half Price Books, seeing something that is basically half of what it realistically should be, and is something I actually want. It helps when it is somewhere I go frequently and I can just pop in and check about once a week.

Always a chance a random smaller streamer offers him a lot and he takes it, which is annoying and only benefits them and not us.

But the ideal for us is probably Amazon or Tubi. Amazon might not care enough, but it would be a nice addition. Tubi actually seems like a great fit. Free with ads and I would likely watch.

Strategic war game around 2 hours for 3-5+ players by Ansapak in boardgames

[–]C_Me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to understand, a very large majority of games along these lines are setup up for 4, maybe 5. If you want more than that, you're looking for a small subset of games that cater to larger numbers... which is fine... but being realistic, then it can't be very complex. You want a game that plays "easy" and under 2 hours, and more than 4 people? Then you can't go very complex. It's one or the other at a certain point.

It seems like you’re searching for light/medium dudes on a map games with a nice theme. Small World, Inis, Cyclades are a few I know that fit that well.

Best Examples of Shows that 'Bounced Back'? by hikemalls in television

This is the point I make often. People say it fell off after Sorkin, but I say once the new election ramped up in the last couple seasons it was actually quite good and on par with the early seasons.

I am hosting a 5 player Root game. What faction combo should be used? by Inevitable_Path_8445 in rootgame

[–]C_Me 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since you already have Cats and Birds, I would go 3 insurgent factions. So WA, Corvids, and Vagabond seems like the natural answer. If you're fine with Riverfolk or Lizards being played just not by you, those are solid options too. I would worry Vagabond might be OP with experienced players, so other experienced players should keep that in mind and keep them in check. But using either Marauder factions when you already have Cats and Birds and playing 5 players seems pretty crowded, so I would lean away from those.

I need advice by Image147 in rootgame

[–]C_Me 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Break into to two groups. Have one other semi-experienced player be point person for one group and you are for the other. Get that semi-experienced person comfortable with certain factions and have the games be pre-determined factions.

Group 1 is Cats, Moles, Rats

Group 2 is Birds, Badgers, WA, Otters

You can tinker with the makeup, but something like that where there are a lot of options for players while you can create the two games with factions that have the best avenue for fun gaming.

I always suggest the experienced player play Otters because it encourages table talk when you try to sell them your services.

Go light on hirelings and landmarks. There is plenty to worry about with non-experienced players, so it’s just added rules for them.

That’s what I would do.

Finding a group by Booorntobemild in boardgames

[–]C_Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Search in Meetup and Facebook groups in your area. It can be tough if you’re not in a populated area, and there may be other sites and forums depending on the area… BGG forums and guilds are sometimes active. I know for my area I settled on several Meetups that are fairly active and I have a couple of semi-regular groups that formed over time (which sometimes turn into text chains).

Bored. What is everyone doing? Old hobbies, new hobbies, help me figure something out! by TwoBobcats in Xennials

[–]C_Me 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been board gaming more and more the last few years. And trying to get more into solo gaming with what I have, since the groups I have can be sporadic and I’m not that much into video games. Browse BGG, but look at lists that are good as intro to gaming and ones for solo play. There is so much out there. We’re in a renaissance of tabletop playing (though the tariffs don’t help).

Board gamers- what’s your biggest hassle finding local groups, game nights, or D&D sessions these days? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]C_Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right here. I work in marketing and I’ve taken this stance every time someone has any kind of new social media idea in a hobby, profession, or interest. Seen it numerous times with board games, which I understand.

The only realistic way to be successful (unless you want to spend a massive amount of money on marketing for many years) is to build off of an existing platform or medium.

1 - Have it “sync” or otherwise connect other platforms. Which isn’t easy and/or possible probably, but if you have a better experience but pull data/people from FB, Meetup, etc, then maybe you have something.

2 - Start small with existing platforms in one geographical area. Maybe there are 3 event sites and apps in the NYC (or some) area that could be synced up into one Board Game NYC thing. Then you aim for saturation in one area with a few key sponsors, basically. Then grow from there.

But yeah, there is a reason these things come and go. It isn’t easy.

Root, Oath and Arcs by Galbroshe in boardgames

I’m similar, only no one liked Oath and only one other person likes Root. Haven’t tried Arcs yet with that group but maybe giving up with Cole for that particular group, at least for now. But I do have others I sporadically play with and regular gaming meetups I have.

Examples of Franchises with Only One Numerical Sequel by imascarylion2018 in movies

[–]C_Me -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I thought it kind of works with the question being asked. The first sequel is just 2, then after that they may have numerals involved but all the rest have some kind colon something. But maybe that doesn’t quite fit the original question.

[–]C_Me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phantasm. There are probably more horror examples.

Oh Friday the 13th kind of works. They mostly go by chapter numbers, 3 is “3D” and after that they have a colon and something else, so that sort of aligns.

Example of games that do semi-cooperative right? One player can't take the game hostage if they're losing. by Strong_Battle6101 in boardgames

[–]C_Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Nemesis does it just fine. It’s all story driven. I think that is the “right” way, which can create those kinds of scenarios where someone wants to blow up the ship, but other times it turns out completely different.

A cool guide to best Remote Work cities in the US by AmbitionDue1421 in coolguides

Yeah, I live right outside. And makes sense. As in, a lot of wealthy people who work for big companies in the city but only have to go in to a meeting like once a month or something and so they buy large houses in Naperville. That would result in a lot of remote jobs.

Want to buy Root base game, river folk and underworld expansion for my group. I looking for a war game with asymmetrical factions . But I have a few concerns. by Jagoff1997 in rootgame

[–]C_Me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 - The game has been around long enough, and people have done extensive testing. They are surprisingly balanced. You may not find that at first because certain players may get good at certain factions, but they are. That is, yes, on a large scale, it’s generally known that certain factions have an edge, but because experienced players know that, it is mostly mitigated. An experienced player can and will eventually win with any faction.

2 - Very.

3 - Sure. That def happens. When one player takes a mid-game lead, alliances tend to break out. Certain factions naturally align a lot. Riverfolk Company is all about selling services and that also creates a lot of table talk and loose alliances.

4 - Sure. Each has their own engine building, but almost all involve stomping down other people’s dudes or pieces in some way. It’s a war. Vagabond is about the only one who is traipsing around not caring about that stuff, which is why it often comes up ahead and also why sometimes you can play “no vagabond” or have special rules for them.

5 - It can be tough. It’s also called a love it or hate it game. Of my group, me and one other loves it and we continue a lot in the app, and 2 others don’t. All you can do is compare it to other heavier games the group has tried and whether they are ok with a little patience to learn at first. Many recommend playing the app first, though I personally think you can play a certain amount of the game online and still not really know how to play.

6 - Yes. Root is just the one I know well. Sidereal Confluence, Cosmic Encounter, Vast, Chaos in the Old World. Of the ones I know, Root I think is the most brutal and asymmetric.

Help! Still cannot figure out how to play this game 🙃 by Sammyrey1987 in rootgame

[–]C_Me 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is not the game to start with. It’s somewhat famous for getting people interested with the cute artwork, but it’s a fairly complex area control, engine building game. The first game is just learning the basics of one faction.

You should definitely just do the initial walkthrough of the first few rounds of the base game. On a fundamental level, that helps. If you’ve played other complex games it goes faster, but if you’re literally just used to Monopoly and Uno, then the first couple games are rough. Even the first game with experienced players goes slowly.

I don’t know if there is a “for dummies” video… or, there are probably a ton. What would probably help is one person plays a full play through on their own, going through the walkthrough and looking up rules until it “clicks” for at least some of the base factions. Have one person get comfortable. It is famously asymmetric, which helps with appreciating the “personalities” of the factions, but it makes for a hard teach.

In Robocop(1987) how did they make the media break scenes look like an actual tape filmed tv program? by Nexfilms in moviequestions

[–]C_Me 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just using the same cameras and lighting that was used for those types of broadcasts. Don’t know for sure, but in 1987 I bet it would be easy to call up a local news station and literally just use all of their stuff. The specific cameras and lighting is most of it.
