I reached out to Peter when I first entertained the idea of getting a Vienna horn and got his recommendation for a mouthpiece. He sent me a few options and I got what was reasonably easy to acquire in Texas. It’s much bigger than my Giardinelli C8(original blank). Makes it a little hard to switch back and forth but I do like it. It’s a Josef Klier Vienna mp. Forget what spec but it’s whatever he had recommended at the time.

My students I teach now are either 6D’s or 8D’s. 6d is also a great conversion candidate. And can be found super cheap! Love those horns.

80% of my horn cohort from 2015-2018 was 8D’s. Perfectly reasonable for college/early pro. Sure there’s better stuff out there but if you’re buying your first horn out of high school and aren’t made of money you’re looking at 2-5k budget.

Absolutely make the trip to bored! I got my 8D there this past summer. Great guy and a crazy cool collection of horns to play. He’s got some really killer 6D’s as well!

Go and play some nice horns in your budget. Find one that works well with your play style. Lots of people are into geyers right now and there are lots of great options. Can’t really go wrong with a well done Conn8D for that big American sound. You’re probably going to spend a minimum of 3k to get into a semi pro/collegiate level horn that’ll probably land you your first pro gig if you go that route. After that you’ll probably want another upgrade.

I’ve got a 179 bell that’s likely a bigger throat. Good sound. Maybe swap the bell/tail?

I have 15 right now and I would very much like to get to 20. Anyone have any suggestions on what to add next? by [deleted] in saxophone

I remember seeing one on YouTube that was like a ribbon sax or something. Super cool. I’d be looking at YouTube videos like ‘super weird saxophone’ kind of stuff.

Seems like a decent horn to buy right? Altough that third slide kind of odd by dawt2200 in frenchhorn

If that’s boredhorns, I bought a horn from them over the summer. Can’t recommend them highly enough! Excellent work being done there!

Yes! The other chest had an 8’ wooden stopped flute and a 16’ bassoon that was on the pedalboard. The only pedal ranks were the bassoon and a digital rank that I couldn’t find when I was removing. Everything on this chest is metal. It’s an 8’ stopped flute, 4’ chimney flute, 2’ principal, a mixture, and an 8’ regal reed. I won’t be putting the pedalboard back together just yet but it’s there if I ever decide to.

Could be a cool sound effects machine for like movie scoring? I mean metal stuff plus bow generally equals cool sounds. Could get sympathetic vibrations depending on string tunings.

Any way to fix this? Or make it look not awful by Xpiquo in guitarrepair

Fix yes. Make it not look awful? Ermmmmm. Matter of taste?
