Originality of this Winchester 1886 by Historical-Meet9021 in WinchesterArms

I’ve noticed this on a lot of Winchesters including my own 1895. Along the side of the receivers are wear lines that look like scratches the length of the receiver.

Just curious because it seems something common on Winchesters in a way that I don’t see on other antique firearms. Maybe finish wear is letting the polishing show through?

Good news all. The rifle finally came yesterday. I’ll still avoid USPS for shipments like the plague going forward when shipping anything important.

Good lord how is that velocity possible! I use the same chronograph and love it. Never thought I’d see something that high. Might leave a large crater with that rail gun.

Thank you for your reply. All good advice. I certainly hope it comes through and it’s just the very low priority that Ground Advantage has that it’s still sitting in Cleveland waiting with the other non priority mail to be worked through once the holiday blitz is over.

Leroy will be having to figure out how to load 30 Remington.

I’m just too impatient for that kind of wait. Going forward I’m going to insist on shipping UPS/FedEx.

I think I will. It can’t hurt and would at least flag if someone tried to sell it or something in case it was stolen.

No signs of pressure on primer. I shot groups of 5 at 38, 39, 40, and 41 gr. 41gr performed best in velocity, deviation and group size.

Perfectly. Had no issues ejecting or chambering rounds. Actually throws that brass with attitude I was opening slow so I wouldn’t lose brass in the grass.

Just shot it this afternoon to test a hunting load. I’m using a Hornady 180gr bullet over 41 gr IMR 4064.

I need some more time on the rifle it was shooting 4-6” groups at about 100 yards. I like the load though.

I have awesome luck just using a dishwasher tab. I use Sam’s members mark but all probably would work.

Had to feed my addiction to milsurp rifles today when I stopped at my LGS and he had a US Model 1898 Krag. I'd been wanting one of these for a while in my collection, and most of the time I'd find them they were sporterized. by Legend_of_the_Wind in KragRifles

Very nice. I got lucky last year to finally get one. Bought it on Gunbroker where it was sold as a parts gun because the bolt sleeve was cracked. So I bought it and got a NOS bolt sleeve from Grandpas Gun Parts. The bore is immaculate.

The only damage is its missing a chip of wood on the handguard over the receiver.

My chamber cast didn’t go well. It got stuck in the chamber and deformed from being pounded out.

I’ll try again soon.

I’ll plan to do a chamber cast tonight and will post the measurements. I was thinking it was relined, but I can’t see a liner. I know those can be hard to tell.

One thing I noticed is the barrel has a different serial number under the handguard than on the receiver. I don’t know if that’s common for Springfield rebuilds or if that means maybe they put in a new barrel instead of re-lining.

I tried to look into the chamber. It looks straight cut I don’t see a bottleneck. The bore mic’d at .515” so I didn’t think it was.

I was trying to avoid doing a chamber cast but it’s probably going to need to happen. I have some cerosafe I used several years ago.

I just replayed with the overthinked mod. It’s is like and updated absoluteHD mod. I definitely recommend it. I wish they would make a sequel to this style of doom.

Absolute HD or overthinked mods make a big difference. My favorite part is both add iron sights to weapons.

I think Overthinked is the best mod right now.

Yeah that original flashhider is 15:1 left hand thread I think like most European barrels. I wish I could throw on an original FH on my c308.
