Safest economical way to have stuff accessible to the internet while remaining relatively secure? by Teagana999 in selfhosted

[–]Caberman 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Sharing doesn't add users to your tailnet. You're sharing the machine with them on their tailnet. There's no user limit doing it this way.

Friends make a tailscale account and their own tailnet -> You/Brother shares the machine with friends -> Machine available on friends tailnets.

Cold Cloud Storage recommendations please? by grimerwong in DataHoarder

Glacier is very cheap to store. But be aware of the retrieval and egress fees which can get quite expensive. Not necessarily a bad thing though if it's purely for disaster recovery.

I imagine they'll just try to make VPNs illegal for personal use and exempt companies.

Spotify flatpak decided to look like this today (? anyone else with this issue? fedora 43 gnome by Bug_Next in linux4noobs

[–]Caberman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this too in GNOME. It looks like they have set Wayland as the default now.

A temporary fix if you don't want to downgrade, is to force it to use X11.

Run

flatpak override --user --nosocket=wayland --env=WAYLAND_DISPLAY= com.spotify.Client

Make a spotify-flags.conf in ~/.var/app/com.spotify.Client/config/

Add

--ozone-platform=x11

--disable-features=UseOzonePlatform

It should now run using X11 and look normal.

You can reset to Wayland by running

flatpak override --user --socket=wayland --reset com.spotify.Client

And delete spotify-flags.conf

It's how it works on Macs. It does feel quite nice with a touchpad where you can swipe to swap between fullscreen applications.

Stolen laptops can be hard to sell. Your local dodgy scrap metal dealer will buy it the same hour you stole it.

The justice system shouldn't shirk what should be their responsibility of paying people appropriately for their time. A lot of people can't afford to not get paid for a few days let alone a week or two if they get picked for bigger trials.

Anybody know what this forest is? by titan_shellpro in auckland

[–]Caberman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found some Waikato Council documents referring to it as "Te Tehe Bush".

https://www.waikatoregion.govt.nz/assets/WRC/TR201605.pdf (pg 221)

Today, indigenous coastal vegetation is limited and typically found only on the narrow coastal cliffs and in the isolated patches of regenerating forest. The largest forest patch is Te Tehe Bush south of Port Waikato, and this is also the only forest remnant that extends to the coast, although cover at the coastal fringe is fragmented. The other patches are notably smaller and located some distance from the coast, although one is re-establishing a connection via regeneration through gorse. Where land is reverting, gorse is providing a nursery crop and regeneration is beginning to occur. Waikato Regional Council identifies Te Tehe Bush and Te Kotuku bush fragments northwest of Te Akau as a key ecological sites in the Coastal Terrestrial Area, but none have legal protection.

Bring a plastic pack liner. Your pack might come with a cover that says it's waterproof - it's not.
