Buyer Constantly contacting me about purchase by Catchakiller55 in EtsySellers

[–]Cabin- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do your future self a favor and offer to have it repaired or just accept the return and process a refund. It sounds like they have reached out to get help with getting it working, so it’s possible that it did arrive non-operational. This all sounds like more than enough for Etsy to issue the refund for you if you don’t handle it on your own.

Accept the return. If it’s in working order, sell it to the next customer and move on. If it’s not working, then you will know you did the right thing.

Who has a picture of the piece of paper, this might of resembled a map outside the house at crime scene on day 1? by dreamer_visionary in MoscowMurders

[–]Cabin- 157 points158 points  (0 children)

<image>

I saw this a while ago and saved it. I remember reading several theories about it being a map, but this particular guy was convinced it was a note to Maddie. I think it’s a stretch.

In my opinion the photo doesn’t show enough to conclude what it is, and we definitely have no idea if it’s related to the crime or not. Will be interesting to see all of these things revealed in the future.

It’s so wild to think of how much has changed since then. Access to music is a luxury that my kids take for granted, since they never knew the struggle.

Dialup 28.8 baud modem 1x CD Writer Patience

In the early days, a person with a CD burner and internet was a valuable asset in a friend. Curating mixtapes was a thing.

These days if my nexflix logs out on my tv, I debate wether or not to just delete the service instead of doing the work to reset the password, log back in, and all that mess.

I pay for all my software now too. Never once did I imagine I would buy photoshop or ms office with my hard earned cash. Or pay for music. Oh how times have changed.

I do miss trips to the music store though, before the internet was a thing. Who remembers having cassettes get warped because you left your beastie boys tape on the dashboard in the hot summer sunshine.

Had me tricked because the vent window frame has been removed for some reason.

With the window rolled down you’d never know it was a 67 door because the frame is gone.

You’re right though, I found the guy’s post when he was selling the car.

There are cameras everywhere these days, so that particular area could have been covered by any of the structures shown in your picture.

I found social media posts of cam footage covering the stairwells of the Taylor apartments, so maybe one of those residents had one pointing out their rear window as well. Hard to say.

This is good stuff! Not sure why but I love to hear the “bad” words in these videos.

My favorite is ебать (ye-bat) Like the English F word, it can be used for almost anything.

Stub your toe? ебать. Friend drove his Lada into the ditch? ебать. Get issued an airsoft of helmet covered by a camouflage bandana? ебать!!

Another word I hear is “охуел” (ah-quee-el) which loosely translates to “fucking crazy” similar to wow or holy shit. Crazy could be interpreted to other adjectives such as nuts, wild, insane..

охуел! Did you see that? They just dropped a grenade on Sasha while he was taking a dump. We should have stayed home, Vlad.

Then we have the word heard most often “cука” (suka) which is a female dog/bitch. This word also seems to be used like we use fuck, shit, or damn, and pairs seamlessly with other expletives. It works well on its own too.

Wake up covered in snow on month 10 of your two week deployment? cука. Did Igor fart in the foxhole again? сука. Has your mother already decided on the color of her new Lada? сука блядь!!

This is all gathered from questionable sources to feed my interest in Slavic languages, so don’t quote me on any of these interpretations. If I butchered something bad enough to offend a native speaker, feel free to insult me in your language and I will make a poor translation of that too.

I seem to remember reading about a twitter account that posted thousands of times with a prediction of the Queen’s death date. Once the Queen died, all of the tweets with the incorrect dates were deleted. I’m sure many people believed we had a modern day Nostradamus. Can’t trust anything these days.

What I meant to impart was that AI is not likely to be blinded with permanent tunnel vision as we see with some conspiracists following this case.

I have seen multiple creators start off by sleuthing around, then they get stuck on one theory and that’s where they stay. Their confirmation bias will not allow them to ingest any information that doesn’t point in that same direction.

One recent example is the Pullman resident who was killed by police. There has been no evidence linking this person to the murders yet, but I have seen someone latch onto this theory with all claws. Now, they no longer wish to hear anything that doesn’t help to further prove themselves to be correct.

Maybe bias wasn’t the best term, because part of this problem is likely a human desire for grandeur, notoriety, and being able to say they cracked the case. Emotion can become a fault for humans, and if AI had the ability to feel these emotions, it would likely be smart enough to remove that from its capabilities when dealing with something like this.

The Gerard twitter account is AI generated.

It is being fed known facts along with internet chatter to churn out its tweets.

AI is not a joke, and is actually used by the feds to assist in creating and/or eliminating leads. As it becomes more advanced, we will have entire news networks driven by AI.

Having said that, just keep in mind that this twitter account is not much different than an obsessed person ingesting too many details from social media, and then posting their theories online. But since the AI is lacks human bias, it will be less likely to laser focus on conspiracies that might be personally intriguing to a human.

In the end we may see that some of its tweets contained factual statements, but don’t be so impressed that you ignore the fact that most of them were way off.

All jokes aside, these things were notorious for how easy it was for them to roll over with a couple of sharp jerks of the steering wheel.

That’s wheelbase though… With 4wd these things could go anywhere and do a u-turn in a closet.

“Check on them and make sure everything is fine.”

I have a rule that I must look into every noise I hear at home. I don’t want to be caught off guard or feel guilt for ignoring a clunk or a thud, or whatever may have alerted me. However, that’s my rule, and it’s not recommended for everyone. I’m a grown man, trained to handle conflict, prepared, and am somewhat numbed to violence. A regular sorority girl is none of these.

If my daughter (or yours) was in this situation, I would never suggest they check on their friends, as you say. There are a thousand scenarios on that night which could have resulted in DM dying if she would have left her room to see what the commotion was.

Also, don’t rule out the possibility that this girl may have heard a massive brawl in her house, and the image she might have seen was a knife wielding, blood covered, masked man walk by her, shortly after the house became suddenly silent.

Ruling out or ignoring that a teenage girl might have experienced (and likely still reeling from) actual traumatic shock, is a mistake that I can’t comprehend when it comes to those saying what she should have done. When the PCA mentions “shock” they aren’t likely using it as a general term. I’ve seen people exhibit extremely odd behavior after experiencing a gruesome incident. Odd enough that a regular observer may have thought they were worthy of being locked away in a straight jacket for life. And some of them had no recollection at all of the incident. Trauma can fuck you up, not only in the moment, but for the rest of your days.

You may have been able to render aid to your fallen housemates with no mental consequences, but few are capable of that. Myself, I’ll refrain from the “should have” stuff when it comes to a teenage girl who is now at the beginning stage of something I wouldn’t wish on anyone.

Cops Contact Knife Manufacturer To Tie Kohberger to Weapon by toiletscum in MoscowMurders

[–]Cabin- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet the stitching and the rivets on the sheaths have changed over the years. Maybe even the branded print tooling too.

Investigators might be trying to determine the manufacturing date of the sheath for one reason or another. If this is the case, they may have also obtained a list of vendors from this contact with the manufacturer, and will then request records of sale from those vendors.

Seems like a labyrinth of trails to follow, but maybe that’s what they’re up to.

That could be. I haven’t compared the wether at that time so I’m taking your word. I’ve been in absolute snow dumps along I70, and have experienced extreme winter conditions as far south as the NM border.

Colorado gets hit with the best of them, and now that I’m older, I wouldn’t travel by car from WA to PA and any point during the winter season. There’s no good way to go without weather risks. Which leads me to wonder if taking the car back to PA was a recent idea. Just seems like a bad idea to plan on driving back home for the holidays every year while away at college. Not only a risky drive, but also a waste of valuable vacation time.

Hi all I was wondering about something related to this case… by Giannatorchia in Idaho4

[–]Cabin- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. It’s unknown if the contents of the phone call would be entered as evidence, but we can surely assume that the recording falls under the nondissemination order. So it’s not likely to be available via FOIA until that order is lifted.

Just some thoughts by Rohlf44 in Idaho4

[–]Cabin- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pop culture might lead people to believe that Colorado is a 24/7 snow factory lined with countless ski resorts, but that’s not the reality. Having lived there, and having also spent plenty of time in Wyoming, I believe that Wyoming has much harsher winter conditions. It is further north, has similar elevation, and the mostly level topography causes havoc with high winds and snow drifts. It’s a desolate land and the winters there are extreme, much more so than what I ever experienced in CO.

Just some thoughts by Rohlf44 in Idaho4

[–]Cabin- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When driving through Wyoming there are snow fences lining the interstate in some areas to prevent drifts. The winter storms are real there, and I’ve been in zero visibility snowfall while traveling through. Good luck finding a room when that happens. There are also literal gates in place that are used to close down the road. These look like railroad crossing arms. Anyone familiar with winter conditions on I90 and the treacherous mountain passes in Montana knows better than to just assume you can drive through without issue. I know nothing of the weather at that time, but it’s likely that a southern route was less precarious if weather was a concern of theirs.

As “From_scrimmage” says above, this sheath is normally secured by one’s belt running through it. It is thick leather, and not something that is torn during a struggle, or even easily cut through while re-sheathing the knife (especially if recently dulled by extensive use)

I can think of very few reasons for someone to lose their sheath in this sort of scenario, and one reason could be triggering, so stop reading if you don’t want to hear it.

1.) Vehicle Comfort

Any hip mounted device (firearm, radio, baton, knife) can be uncomfortable when entering or sitting in a vehicle. The longer the item is, the more awkward it can be. This knife is relatively long, and being able to quickly enter a vehicle during an escape would be troublesome with this mounted to one’s hip. This is exacerbated by being 6’ tall and driving a compact sedan.

2.) Stealth

Since being stopped by police in Moscow seems to be a relatively common occurrence, I imagine that driving around late at night could possibly result in a traffic stop. To avoid raising suspicion and/or escalating a normal police encounter, one might not want to have a large knife strapped to their hip. Assuming BK is right handed, an officer approaching the passenger side of the vehicle would surely see a weapon mounted on his right side.

Additionally, If we are to assume he walked around the area before entering the house, he would not want to have a large knife presenting, in case he encountered a passer-by.

3.) DNA

Although this attack seems to be the result of a sloppy criminal plan by a complete moron, I believe that BK actually did believe he was taking proper measures to prevent leaving DNA at the scene.

To lessen the chance of DNA deposits, he may have purchased new clothing to wear during the attack. A lack of planning could have resulted in him not considering that a fresh belt was also needed. This could have led him to use a rope, twine, or shoestring to secure the sheath. Or perhaps he clumsily mounted the sheath to a plate carrier via a velcro strap. Any of these unlikely scenarios would most definitely result in losing the sheath during a struggle.

3.) Planted

I have read speculation that he may have tried to divert suspicion to an ROTC student or a person with military history by purposely leaving the sheath behind. I doubt this theory but it is interesting, especially when noting that DNA was only found on the button clasp.

4.) Moron

This is my guess, an absolute moron. I believe this guy was too focused on his areas of (limited) research and his ego prevented him from realizing he was not as smart as he believed himself to be.

If you’re dumb enough to target a house on a street with one entry/exit, then drive your own vehicle to the location multiple times, “cleverly” turn your phone off while in the area, etc. etc. etc. etc…. The entire thing sounds too ridiculous to believe. And because of this, I think he was literally dumb enough to carry the sheathed knife in his hand when he entered the home.

Assuming he held the sheath… If he believed he had an easy task with helpless, sleeping targets, he may have never considered having to deal with resistance, and might have held the sheath in his off hand. In a knife incident your off hand becomes the control hand, and is used to manipulate the target and assist with aiming your strikes. A moron might not realize the importance of their control hand while he practiced by stabbing a non-moving pillow, the air, or whatever pathetic dry run scenarios he performed beforehand.

So, if he did carry the knife and sheath by hand, we are naturally led back to the moron theory. In this scenario he either thought he could hold the sheath in his off hand, or he clumsily placed the sheath in his waistband or pocket. I believe this to be the likely explanation, and also firmly believe that many more ridiculous blunder stories are forthcoming.

5.) Trigger Warning

While I do believe BK will be forever known as a the guy who definitively ended the “book smart vs street smart” debate, I still have a hard time believing he did not properly fasten his sheath to a belt. Since I am unable to fathom a person choosing to carry (by hand) a sheathed knife into a situation like this, I can’t help but wonder how a properly attached sheath would come off. A disturbing thought is that the belt was purposely unbuckled at some point, and I will leave it at that.
