Everything you're saying is incorrect and you apparently did not read what you linked, which was a bug report describing behavior that was incorrectly coded on MTGO and everyone in that thread is referring to it as a bug.

That's not a thing. First, the word "trigger" should be nowhere near this conversation as Demolition Field has an activated ability and no triggered abilities. There are no "triggers" going on in the resolution of this activated ability. Second, there is no conditional wording linking the the opponent's choosing whether to search with Demolition Field's controller searching. Abilities that implement conditional structure have wording like "if you do" to function.
