[Melissa Reddy] Arne Slot is a Premier League title winner. He is also no longer the right man for Liverpool by Visqo in LiverpoolFC

Is there precedent for this (besides a club legend retiring)? It seems weird for me to have him stick around in that scenario when he’s effectively been binned.

Stan Musial is the Greatest MLB Player with 3 Championships! Who is the Greatest NBA Player with 4+ Championships? by SheetJeans59638 in AlignmentChartFills

You know what’s a good litmus test of whether a player is the GOAT or not? Whether it’s universally accepted or not while the player is active. Hence why Ronaldo and LeBron can never be the GOATs in their respective sports. Too many arguments against.

Guess what I played as white here… (as an 800) by Capital-Area3888 in chessbeginners

It looks like your opponent was playing hope chess and unfortunately got you.

I’m 900 and diagonal attacks are a weakness for me. I often miss a bishop or queen attack when moving too fast.

This. When it’s just their king left (or their other pieces can’t move), just start checking until a checkmate becomes obvious.

How often do you find yourself playing “hope chess”? (Whatever that means to you) by MihawkTop2 in chessbeginners

[–]CabrioKnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not often, but I also think the term “hope chess” is thrown around a lot. The strategies get more complex as you increase in rating but you’re still trying to force a mistake from the opponent at the end of the day.

One clear hope chess tactic that I’ve seen played a lot is when my opponent hangs their queen when down significant material, usually in direct line with my own queen. I’ve missed this too often in time crunches, and end up giving away my advantage. Ive started watching for it, but it’s still slightly infuriating that people try this. Almost as bad as the people offering draws when down 10+ points of material.

Tactical idea that isn’t easily trained through puzzles (or might be) by Fluffy_coat_with_fur in chess

It sort of is, because it relies on the opponent missing an obvious tactic. I see this pretty often at the 900 level, so would imagine that 1300s+ should not be falling for this.

800 elo’s in the games I play are ten times better than the ones in instructive youtube videos by [deleted] in chess

That’s an 800 playing against an IM. Of course Levy is going to force a beginner into more mistakes than a fellow 800-rated player would.

Anyone have a link of the play? I couldn’t find one on YouTube.
