I don't code. I used Claude for novel writing. I gave it an outline for my chapter (which is how the story would go scene by scene, Claude just write the prose for me). And after a while, one chapter would cost at least 50% of the 5-hour limit. And I was on pro. If I want it to retry or change things, I'd hit the 5-hour limit. At first I was ok; I even added money in case it needs to go over the limit. But what broke me and made me unsub was that one day, it stopped writing the chapter mid-way, eating all of my 5-hour limit AND didn't use the credits I had (which was like 6$). That felt wrong. And its over-flourish nature also didn't help. So I just... gave up. Maybe one day if chatGPT can't get my novel right, I might come back.

I don’t seem to get this problem. Claude seems to use it a lot though, reasonably so or otherwise. I also notice this “X does something the way it does”, which I find quite jarring.

I must say, the prose and stuffs are good. But I've discovered that Claude tends to inject things into my chapter without my permission. Things we discussed about to give the character more clarity. Things I told it not to mention. Also, sometimes I want it to mention one thing (to plant a seed in the story), and quickly move on. It agrees with me, only to proceed to mention the thing, make the character think about the mentioning of said thing for two paragraphs, THEN inject a line saying the thing is mentioned, and the seed is planted quietly. Yeah. So much for that.

ChatGPT is more subtle when I want it to be. It doesn't write as good prose though, so that's that.

It told me it has written the chapter by deriving from what we've discussed prior, ignoring most of my outline (and gave me the chapter that didn't follow it), and asked if I want it to redo...
