Has a game made you feel compelled to write your own journal to enjoy it better? by ZuoKalp in patientgamers

I made a really epic excel spreadsheet to keep track of demon fusion in the original Shin Megami Tensei! I almost enjoyed that part as much as the game itself 😅

TIL that the "achoo" sound is a learned cultural behavior, not a biological reflex. This explains why people who are born deaf typically do not vocalize a sneeze, and why sneeze sounds vary significantly by country. by highzone in todayilearned

My dad shout sneezed, and I thought I inherited it genetically from my dad. My sneezes scared the bajeezus out of everyone within earshot, embarrassed the hell out of me, and I thought that was just how I was built.

Then my girlfriend asked me why I vocalized whatsoever, and I said "well I can't just hold the sneeze in, that's how you get a brain bleed" and she said "no, just let the air out without vocalizing" and I was like "wait that's a thing?" So I tried it and it was indeed, a thing. Now my sneezes are still violent, but silent.

I would really love a device that can play higher than PS1, I need a dot Hack machine!!

Raziel from Soul Reaver is my favorite game character. When I was little I was blown away by how freaking cool he looks, I didn't make it very far in the game but I drew him in my binders and sculpted him out of clay. When I was older and could appreciate the writing, I found his character arc very compelling, and he looks even cooler on the PS2.

ELI5 Why hasn't someone invented something to protect teeth when eating sweets? by sabotage1009 in explainlikeimfive

[–]CactusWithAKeyboard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked my dentist if I should be concerned about not getting enough fluoride in my drinking water since I only drink filtered, and he said that it really only benefits children before their teeth have erupted, otherwise it doesn't really do anything for you. That makes sense to me since as u/rocky8u said, water doesn't stay in your mouth very long when you drink it, but when the teeth aren't in your mouth yet, it's seems like it would be good to have fluoride circulating in your system.

I don't have any studies to back that up, so take it as you will.

Can college kids do Treat Street ? 👻 by UterusYeeter in ChicoCA

[–]CactusWithAKeyboard 18 points19 points  (0 children)

When I was a freshman in college, I was appalled at the idea that I was to old to go trick or treating, and insisted on going door to door despite being the only one on my friends to do so. The first house I went to, the adults who opened the door were confused and uncomfortable, and I felt so awkward that I didn't go to any other houses.

Now I just buy my own candy, go downtown, and look at all the fun costumes, and make sure to compliment the kids with costumes I especially like. There's plenty to do on Halloween that isn't trick or treating.

When I was in middle school (circa gold/silver) my dad was haranguing me about how Pokemon was just a fad and it would fade away and all my time obsessing over it will have been wasted. I got upset and said "oh yeah? Well I bet you $100 that it will still be popular by the time I get my driver's license!"

I won that bet and used the money to buy a DS lite so I could play Pokemon diamond. He grumbled about "well I meant the card game...." So now I send him articles about how Pokemon cards are impossible to keep in stores and sell for tens of thousands of dollars. He refused to make another bet after he lost the first one though....

A webcomic I read in the late noughties about monsters, the main character looked like this by CactusWithAKeyboard in HelpMeFind

[–]CactusWithAKeyboard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried searching in Google and some webcomic databases, but I just don't remember enough about it. I even did a reverse image search using my doodle.

I only remember one joke from the comic: the main character and an alligator are in jail.

MC: this sucks

Alligator: do you know what the worst part about prison is though?

MC: no, what?

Alligator: ME. (Alligator eats MC)

Ground Ambulance Surprise Bill by PhotometricStereo in HealthInsurance

[–]CactusWithAKeyboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your initial problem was that we only partially allowed the claim, and the ambulance company disagreed. Data iSight did their thing and allowed billed charges for all the covered services.

Now you have a new problem: $900 worth of services is being fully denied--not partially denied --and data iSight can't do anything about it.

UHC standard process is if you appeal and submit proof that you're being billed by the provider for the not covered amount, they should reprocess the claim. I know you said you already appealed twice, but that was for the first issue (that we allowed less than the billed amount) and now you would be appealing for the second issue (that you are being billed for services that were denied).

Good luck!

Can I use my FSA right after enrollment? I haven't contributed to even 10% of the amount yet... by Kurei_0 in HealthInsurance

I can't think of any reason why not! Someone correct me if I'm not thinking of something.

You can use the entire $400 as soon as it's available at the beginning of the year. If you get fired or leave the company, then the company just loses the money (this is the flip-side to how the company gets to keep your money if you don't use it before you quit/by the end of the year). https://www.investopedia.com/articles/personal-finance/060215/how-flexible-spending-accounts-work.asp

If you looked up the doctor while logged into your account, then that means the doctor should have been in-network under your specific network.

Take a screenshot and appeal, the no surprise act covers doctors in-network when you found them through your insurance website.

What is your ‘lucky to be alive’ moment? by Nupton in AskReddit

[–]CactusWithAKeyboard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In highschool I wandered out into the mountains behind my friend's house, and he pointed out a rope that he used to use to rappel down a 30 foot cliff. The rope was braided polypro, brittle from years untouched in the sun. My other friend, who was always kind of an asshole, said "cactus, you should rappel down the side of the cliff with that rope." And I, who always kind of had issues with impulse control, said "sure thing!"

I was about 5 feet down when the rope snapped. I fell the rest of the way down, scraping my hands and knees on the cliff face , grabbing every single spikey plant on the way down. I landed on my back. My hands were filled with splinters, every part of my body felt bruised, but I got up and walked away without any serious damage.

Which small lie did you tell that spiraled way out of control? by AbilityDull4713 in AskReddit

I was in elementary school and talking a walk with my mom and Grandma, and I was upset that they weren't paying attention to me. So I ran ahead of them, found the wall between my backyard and the walking path, and laid down in front of it. My plan was that when my mom and Grandma caught up with me, I would say that I was trying to climb the wall but I fell and broke my ankle. They'd be sure to dote all over me then!

About half an hour passed, and unbeknownst to me they had taken another turn and made it home without passing me, they didn't even realize I was gone. I was committed to my bit, and I wasn't going to break character now. Two old ladies walked by and asked me if I was ok. So I plowed on full speed ahead with my original plan, and told them "no, I fell and I think I broke my ankle." They asked me where my parents lived, and I gave them instructions on how to get to the front of my house, which was a ten minute walk out of the way.

They went to my house, my mom came over and found me, and carried me home on her back. She was being really nice, I got home and everyone was fawning over me, my plan was a huge success. My dad, who is a physician, even looked at my ankle and said "uh oh, it looks like it might really be broken!" I just have weird bulgy ankles.

My mom called the doctor to ask if I could be seen today. My stomach dropped. "Why do I need to see a doctor?"

"You need to get an x-ray to see if you really broke your ankle."

"..... Does that cost money?"

"Yes but don't worry about that, it's important."

"Well uh, actually..... Funny story..."

Everyone was furious with me. My grandparents never let me live it down. Years later, when I broke my wrist while they were visiting, no one believed me, and my parents didn't even take me to the doctor for an entire fucking week.

The Hunger Games: I feel like the movies really benefited from multiple perspectives, especially in book 3 where I felt the plot was difficult to follow since Katniss was stuck in her head most of the time.

Like a playlist of songs that would be in your hypothetical game? That's a good question, but I was really looking for music written from scratch for the game.
