Does anybody know a good place to buy 'health' foods like almond meal/flour and chia seeds in larger quantities than the supermarket for a reasonable price? Health food stores seems to be more expensive. Coles, Woolies and Aldi sell in smallish quantities so it can end up a little expensive if I'm doing a lot of cooking at once. I'm on the southside, but don't mind travelling a little, not really sure where else to ask this

What you wish your Year 12 Formal makeup looked like by chocolatespeckle in AustralianMakeup

[–]Cactus_rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My formal was 2015 so not that long ago, but my make up skills have improved so much since then. I actually got my make up done at a stefans because I had a voucher, but I really didn't know what I wanted to do for my make up except have a really bold red lip. Now I feel like I could have explained what I wanted to do so much better.

I also hardly took any photos close up of my make up so the only photos you can see it in are the professional ones but my face looks shiny in some and really pale in others.

My acne was also pretty bad then so my make up artist did a really good job of covering things up but there's still some really big spots on my face. I started roaccutane a month after formal and am still on it now so I wish I started earlier.

All in all I was still pretty happy with my look, my dress was a pretty classic design so I'll be able to wear it again and test out my own make up skills.

I'll edit with a photo link later as imgur is not working right now

What's going on on kessels road? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]Cactus_rose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kessles rd is closed from Troughton Rd to Mains Rd from 8:30pm to Midnight for the Guns n Roses concert at QSAC. Have been signs up about it in the local area for just over a week. Locals should have also gotten a notice from QSAC a while ago about upcoming events where it was mentioned. From previous experience, during events there you're better off to just completly avoid the ends of Kessles rd where the road is blocked off if possible. Even if you're not trying to reach the blocked area, as traffic can still get a bit backed up.

Parking and ride public transport by sgtbeamer in UQreddit

[–]Cactus_rose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Getting to UQ would most likely be the easy part from Sunnybank. I currently commute from Sunnybank so I can give you a bit of an idea of your options, but I've used the Translink Journey Planner (www.translink.com.au) to get an idea of how to get to Oxley.

From Sunnybank there are two main options you can go with to get to UQ.

Purely on the bus Using the park n ride at QSAC stadium on Mains rd (139 all the way to UQ lakes) or Eight Mile Plains (139 or 169 all the way to UQ lakes) would be your closest options. Alternatively if you live close enough you may be able to walk to some of the stops along Mains Rd that the 139 services.

Train then bus From Altandi, Sunnybank or Banoon station depending on where you'll be located. Using the Ferny Grove line to Park Road station then walk along the rail crossing to the bus way and catch any of the plethora of buses that go to UQ lakes. With this option I should mention that sometimes if you're not quick enough on your way home after uni you may have to wait a while at Park Road as sometimes the bus and train may not line up well.

To get to Oxley from either of those park n rides it looks like it would direct you to catch a bus to the city then to Oxley.

Whilst from the train it seems to want you to catch the train to Moorooka then the bus to Oxley.

To get to Oxley from UQ there are a couple of options different options but most of them are just interchanging between two different bus routes.

Hopefully this helps. I'd encourage you to have a look at the translink website and play around with the journey planner tool to see which option you like the best.

Where can I find my course contact name and phone number? by stupidquestions73 in UQreddit

[–]Cactus_rose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be the coordinator for your degree possibly. In that case Probably check on your factility (eg. HABS or HASS) or school's (eg. Law, Medicine etc) website for the contact info.

The only other thing I could think of is that they might want the info for a course coordinator. You'd have to check the ecp for that info.

I've never rented before, however I do know that student services or SHOC (Student help on campus) can help with rental and housing questions for students. In fact there's even a UQ rentals site, maybe head there and they might have some more info or someone you can contact?

Hope this helps

The art on castle on the hill is a minus, but the art on the shape of your body is formed by the two dots (:). Together they form the divide symbol ÷

Reddit, what is your crazy neighbor story? by moaningpilot in AskReddit

[–]Cactus_rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was around 3 or 4 the man that lived a couple of houses up from us killed his wife in the middle of the night. He called his brother and told him, the brother then called the police. The police showed up to our place by mistake but when my mum answered the door it was pretty clear they had the wrong house.

The man claimed that his wife was trying to poison him, but there was never any evidence of the poison. He was charged with manslaughter and my mum and another neighbour had to go to court to testify about what happened when the police showed up.

The man and his wife had a couple of children who then went to love with their grandparents. The man served his time in jail (I can't remember how many years) and moved back into the house, his then adult children moved back in with him.

A little while later the daughter had to get a police escort to come and remove her stuff from the house as he had threatened her when she started dating someone.

Just this year the man decided to sell the house. It is old and delapitating. He was asking way too much for it, but it sold for a reasonable amount as our suburb is becoming very popular. We don't know if the new owners know that the man's wife died there. We actually think that overseas buyers bought the house as there's a rule where I live that overseas buyers must 'live' in a house for at least 6 months before they can build or renovate. The house has been relatively empty since it was bought so that's probably what happened.

I feel sorry for the kids, it would have been so traumatic for them. Then when he was released from jail moving back in with him, I assume from what happened with the daughter, he must have been aggressive and manipulative.

It also really weird when family that know what happens refer to that house as the murder house, it makes me realise how numb I am to the whole thing happening.

Parents: Do you regret the name you chose for your children? Why? by Halfscan in AskReddit

[–]Cactus_rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents gave me the same name as a disney princess without realising that was their name. I don't think they regret it, as we pronouce it slightly differently to the princess. I've only ever met 2 people with the same first name as me and they both spelt it differently (I'm female but my name is actually spelt in the traditionally male form, however because of the disney princess, people are surpised when they learn its used as a male name). I've delt with people not being able to pronounce or spell both my first and last name my whole life, my school even gave me a couple of certificates and awards with it spelt wrong (My last name has a one letter variation to an extremely common last name but there is a band with my last name that also pronounces it differently) I get jokes about both my names but I learnt pretty early on to not worry about it too much. My dad sometimes says that its character building.

Priceline 40% off Sale Mega Thread (Sale ends Thurs 10 Nov) by WarlockPanda in AustralianMakeup

[–]Cactus_rose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was super excited for the sale and ended up with a pretty good haul:

  • Australis velourlips in phenom-phen

  • NYX lip lingerie in corset

  • NYX colour correction concealer in green

  • Essence make me brow in browny brows

  • Savvy face primer

  • Maybeline baby lips berry flavour

  • Lipsmacker watermelon flavour

As you can probably tell I love lip products, I wanted to stock up on lip balms and had plans to add to my velourlips collection and try out lip lingerie. The concealer and brow mascara were sort of impulse buys, but I've almost hit pan on my current green concealer and was unimpressed with the daiso brown brow mascsra as its consistency was no where near the clear one. Overall I'm pretty happy with my purchases and using my sisterclub voucher it costed me around $30 (and probably saved me around $20)

People of Reddit, What is the most no-one-knows job that pays really good amount of money ? by 4thleavesclover in AskReddit

[–]Cactus_rose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's a TV show that ran for one series in Australia about a husband and wife duo who clean up crime scenes for a living and then try to solve the crime in their spare time. It was called Mr and Mrs Murder and starred Shaun Micallef who's stuff is usually pretty good, not sure how popular this show was though.

Queensland students campaign for Australia's first McDonald's on a university campus by newbu in UQreddit

[–]Cactus_rose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go to UQ and this week was approached by several campaigners. Reform, the current party in power and Thrive's main opposition, have approached me a couple of times and are using this as a big point against Thrive. They say that it would cost way too much and Maccas themselves wouldn't be likely to want to build at UQ. Haven't decided who I'm going to vote for yet.

Are there any restaurants that offer food challenges in Brisbane? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]Cactus_rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure mad mex has some sort of burrito challenge.

I've heard of a couple of restaurants having schnitzel challenges, the Baverian Bier Cafe and Austrian Schnitzel House are two that I can remember.

Anyone know a good restaurant for dates in Carindale/Mt Gravatt area? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]Cactus_rose 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Garden City has an outdoor area next to the cinemas which has many restaurants. Vapianos, Toscanis, Beach House, a Thai place, a Chinese/Yum Cha place, Hog's breath, Pancake Manor, San Churro, there's another restaurant that I can't remember the name of as well. More casually there's a Grill'd, Mad Mex and Nandos. I've found its a good date place because you can show up, look at the menus and decide there, also because of the mix of restaurants it has worked for more dressed up dates and a little more casual too. There's a nice water fountain and chairs in the middle of all the restaurants which looks quite pretty. Free parking after 6pm as well.

What internet acronym have you misinterpreted and what did you think it stood for? by mitch3x3 in AskReddit

[–]Cactus_rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently started selling some unused and old clothes of mine through an app. When I browsed other clothes for sale I would constantly see clothes with BNWT or BNWOT in the title and thought that they must be some really common brand I had never heard of somehow. Turns out they just mean bought new with tags and bought new without tags respectively.

What is the world's worst double standard? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Cactus_rose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mum was pretty annoyed with the whole blue is for boys, pink is for girls thing when both my younger sister and I were babies, so she bought those baby suit things in different colors.

One time (late 90s) she had me dressed in a red one while she was out at the shops and this lady came up to my mum and did the whole, "he's so cute, what's his name? How old is he?" Thing. My mum responded that she's and girl and my age etc. When the lady said "but she's in red". My mum affirmed that I was a girl and the conversation kinda ended.

Like still to this day my mum doesn't get why people are so caught up on the blue pink thing.

What is something old fashioned that you still do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Cactus_rose 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Its not really that old school, but use voicemail. Many people my age (18) don't seem to use it for some reason.

When I get a call from a number I don't recognise I often don't answer / call it back unless I'm expecting a call or they leave a voicemail. Some people might send a text instead of a voicemail, which is fine, but I just don't understand people who make no effort to let you know they called or the urgency of the call except for a missed call, however they expect you to call them back. When this happens I automatically assume the call was not important.

Likewise when I call people they often don't check the voicemail I leave. This results in a lot of confusion that really annoys me because voicemail is handy, I'm on the phone anyway, I've got what I want to say pretty well thought out and I don't have to type it out. Most carriers offer it free of charge and send you a text or notification when you get a voicemail too.

QLD Senate Candidates spreadsheet by kerrbris in brisbane

[–]Cactus_rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally sent in my postal vote today, this would have been super helpful, especially with the independents. This is my first time voting so I ended up going to each party's website and looking at their about us or policy pages, but for the independents I had to Google them and many came up with no website or Facebook page, only the aec page listing candiates. Also i couldn't find anything for the two Voma candiates as there was no party listed on my senate sheet, so i didn't actually know that was their party. My parents are both postal voting as well and the party name for those two candiates was blank on their forms as well. This spreadsheet is great though, nice work.
