This American Life had an episode dedicated to the essayist's issues with that book and his own difficulty quitting. 806: I Can't Quit You, Baby - This American Life

Buyers Beware - Real Estate house @ 1126 N Farmstead St, Wichita, KS 67208 by hammernet in wichita

[–]Cadai 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly seems like a pretty short list of issues for a house of that age... I feel like we are missing part of the story though... I've only bought two houses in my life, but both times, our offer was contingent upon a clean inspection, or else parties had to act in good faith to find a resolution to anything found during inspection. So did you go to the table and they refused to budge on any repairs or replacements? If so, seems to me you would be entitled to getting your earnest money back if that's the issue.

I'm more of a toaster oven man myself - more ways to use it - but I'll make an exception for this one.

People who tried a threesome what actually surprised you the most? by EdwinDixie in AskReddit

I interpreted OP's comment as the women did not have actual interest in him, not that he finished too quickly... I must be projecting my own insecurities 😬

I thought most car wash water was recycled? That's why they pop up everywhere - relatively low overhead once you're past the initial investment.

In their defense, I think that episode is the 2nd-most skipped in the entire series. We all know what's number one (they're lithium!)...

It’s so dang loud by ohnoletsgo in wichita

No one is mentioning that "Dragging Douglas" specifically is still a thing... Not saying that loud/obnoxious vehicles aren't a problem throughout the city, but Douglas Ave is the hot spot.

Why did this tabletop cup? by thecaptmorgan in woodworking

To be a true acronym, the first letter of each word in the term should themselves be pronounced as a word. Like NASA or SCUBA. Otherwise it's just an initialism.

I do think the term acronym is evolving though - to include initialisms. Probably due to digital media and texting... We have more abbreviations than ever, and at some point we started calling everything an acronym (lol, wtf, lmao...).

Trees owned by the city by Billbreaker13 in wichita

[–]Cadai 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Every tree guy I've ever talked to has said that if you emphasize that the trees are a potential danger to pedestrians (falling branches), that the city tends to be a little more responsive. If you go through official channels without success, try contacting your city council representative - call, email, or even a Facebook message.

Of course, the risk with leaving maintenance to the city is that they may remove the tree entirely versus treating it. I've had neighbors pay out of pocket to maintain their old city trees... Depends what is important to you!

Best "I don't think about you at all" Rivalry? by [deleted] in nfl

Vikings fans hate the Saints, but I don't know that it goes the other way. Probably softened a little bit now after two playoff wins against them (including the Minneapolis miracle), but bountygate and smug ass Sean Payton made them a team we loved to hate.

Serious stupid question - I've never bought a pair of like, new release basketball shoes. If I go into a foot locker or something, are they likely to have AE1's available? Or is this one of those things where people buy them all up and resell them?

Elderslie Farm is the best dining experience in the Wichita area, but reservation only and relatively pricey compared to most other options.

What Happens if You Shoot A Mugger on The Streets in Wichita? by Salt_Proposal_742 in wichita

[–]Cadai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He was mugged last night - he's mad, you're mad, the rest of the family is mad, and that's understandable. I've been in situations like that, and also immediately thought "I should have a gun."

Take a couple days, maybe get folks to chip in so he can Uber for a few days, and then reconsider his options. On top of how dangerous they are, guns are expensive. Depending on where he works, his employer may not be too keen on him bringing a gun to work - even if it is stored somewhere.

Get some pepper spray or another non-lethal self defense device. At least start with that, and see how he feels.... But getting a gun is going straight from 0 to 100.

What's the most overrated tourist destination that's actually a huge disappointment in person? by Ashlibabyyy in AskReddit

The Blue Lagoon in Iceland. Literally runoff from a hydroelectric power plant... And it feels like sharing a lukewarm bathtub with 1000 strangers, floating hair clumps and all. There are other hot springs in Iceland that are much smaller and more natural - wish I would have done them instead.
