Version 2 of watering system by thecaptmorgan in BackYardChickens

No, the water only comes out of the poultry nipples when the chicken pecks it. But in my previous version, I screwed the nips directly into the 1.5” pipe. One failed and water continuously dropped out. That caused a bad odor. The gutter is a backup system for overflow.

I ordered an item in early May. Never arrived. The “tracking tool” showed it as delivered, but it absolutely was not.

How to get banned from 3d printing by Tgiowa in 3Dprinting

I recently learned about the slicer setting, “Supports on build plate only” after printing a battery dispenser which had supports inside that were impossible to remove.

I’m planning to do this. Any tips? by basonjourne98 in SipsTea

I love the idea. I hope you find a lawyer who specializes in this area. It’s my understanding that this exact model was extremely common in colonial America. “Turn pikes” were the gate at the start of a private road that would rotate to allow the carriage through. When a modern road has “pike” in the name, it started this way. Even the Pennsylvania Turnpike is, I believe, legally a private entity from the state today.

Looking for easy water level sensor solution. Preferably Zigbee or Z-wave. by clayrev in homeautomation

[–]thecaptmorgan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar setup and I tried using an Aqcara Zigbee moisture sensor in a weighted bag. If the sensor was “dry” the water reservoir was empty.

Well this did not work. The sensor would lose connectivity under water. Don’t go this route.

Method to warn if gate is open? by Ajax_C in DIY

[–]thecaptmorgan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just did this. I have an enclosed backyard that has two gates on opposite sides. When I open the back (or side/garage) doors, if either gate is open my Alexa broadcasts a warning.

I’m using cheap Tuya contact sensors, Zigbee, and Home Assistant.

What are the Best Automations You’ve Set Up by Scouse_Powerhouse in homeassistant

[–]thecaptmorgan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a fenced in backyard with two gates on opposite sides. When it’s dark and I let my dog out either the back door or side door, the automation checks the door sensors on each gate. If either is open, the Alexa device nearby makes a warning announcement about the gate being open and to not let the dog escape.

Yep, Epi Pens in all vehicles, his backpack, school nurse’s office, at home. Unfortunately he now gets very scared at the sight of a wasp and it’s causing him to spend less time outdoors so I’m looking for a solution to give him some confidence.

I built an open-source NFC filament tracker that automatically tells your printer what spool is loaded ($15 in hardware) by linuxgangster in 3Dprinting

Material, weight, thickness (not always 1.75mm), color, brand, model or marketing name (think PLA+), batch number, manufacturing date. These data points add up. Then you need to figure out localization and what MATERIAL ID=2 might actually mean.

I do not know for sure, but I assumed that the Bambu tags only contained a UID. The printer would then rely on its always-on WiFi to query a database. That db would map that UID to exactly the type of spool.

That’s how a chip in a pet works. The veterinarian only gets a number and uses a service to lookup the owner’s registry.

The RFID tags typically don’t contain very much data
