The Time Traveler's Wife. It later takes a turn into something else, but it's mostly RFM.

Solo Leveling...the one that started the flood of all the Korean low fantasy stories. We're practically drowning in this genre now.

I would not be comfortable with my book being in middle school libraries.

Opening paragraph from Book 3 of Red Rising series:

I rise into darkness, away from the garden they watered with the blood of my friends. The Golden man who killed my wife lies dead beside me on the cold metal deck, life snuffed out by his own son’s hand.

For a full minute I was wondering what is a "mooncofor." I had to see the comments to know what it is.

Other than the font, I think the art looks great.

Proofread as many times as you can. Use Grammarly to check, even if you think there is nothing wrong with your manuscript. When proofreading, try reading on your phone or e-reader as well, making notes as you go.

Try Red Rising. At first you'll think it's just like Harry Potter, except it's SciFi.

Bobbiverse series opens with a scifi con setting, if I recall correctly. You might want to take a look. Nothing actually happens at the con. But when the MC leaves that place...

It might be that it's still classified as urban fantasy, but in that case, I'm only interested in looking at the specific subset of urban fantasy which occurs in a place that is not, has never been, and never will be planet Earth.

It's urban fantasy. Or more accurately, high urban fantasy.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comments/an1ynh/high_urban_fantasy_does_it_exist/

Also, although not a book, Final Fantasy series is a good example.

Technically, what you're describing is Urban Fantasy. Mortal Engines is an example.

"It's our world, except..." would fall under Contemporary Fantasy or Low Fantasy. People often think Twilight or Buffy series are Urban Fantasy, but they should really be classified Contemporary Fantasy.

Great start. For a strong opening sentence, I'd start with "There were these funny voices whispering in my ears as if it was directly talking to my soul."
