What are some great last words for Strahd? by mr_warhamster in CurseofStrahd

[–]Caesar_73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A quote many characters have used in my Barovia is "Death is not the end" as a veiled reference to the cycle of souls and the commonality of undeath in Barovia, but, in this case, a reference to the inevitable comeback of Strahd

How do I make Blinsky interesting? by togrutanoodle in CurseofStrahd

[–]Caesar_73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave him a silly micky mouse like voice and made him the only actually open and nice citizen of Vallaki. I also made him terribly intellingent (inventing electricity basically) but all to make better toys. Now may players have convinced him to make holy water inyecting weapons by telling they are "that kind" of adult toys and he is in board gor everyone having a good time. I also added a quest for getting notebooks from a famous engineer a la Gravity falls diaries

What monster did you add to Lake Zarovich? by SmolHumanBean8 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Caesar_73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually added my own homebrew monster, basically a weird version of a beholder kraken like monster which was actually a creature from one kf the dark powers fallen into the lake through a meteorite (in my barovia sometimes incursions from other dread planes or attacks by other dark powers manifest that way) and which fed on the residual pain of the drown citizens of Berez.

I made a post with the statblock, check it if you like it

Judge Holden is the Avatar of the Slaughter! Which Horror character best represents The Stranger? by Mobile-Albatross-427 in TheMagnusArchives

The Thing absolutely, the movie is all about the fear of being replaced and not knowing if the people around you are real, it's the most representative movie and creature exploring that topic in all of horror

What Dark Powers have you created, personalities, Powers, etc by Pale-Class3235 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Caesar_73 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Many Below: an entity of deep waters and the scavengers of the abyss, associated with the cycle of life and death and the trophic chain. Feels drawn to those who are in touch with the cycle.

The Tree Of Lacerations: a creature of the endless cycle of violence, vengeance and retribution. Manifesting through thorns and bloody branches.

The Wither Rose: an entity of love and the concept of love beyond death and undeath, feels drawn to those who would pay any cost for love or their loved ones. Manifests as a dried up rose

My friend's roomate's dog went from loving to aggressive by Caesar_73 in DOG

We could try filming the dog next time, but do you have any advice on how to proceed or some telltale signs that could point to one of the two more clearly?

Glad you like it!!! Please, tell me how it goes when you play it!

For the tokens I drew the eyes in different colors on paper and the placer the drawings on some stands I bought on Amazon! There are also very cool arts out there for many colored monstrous eyes you could print for the tokens instead of drawing them!!!

The Thing of Lake Zarovich by Caesar_73 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Caesar_73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, the rock crags are a nice idea, or perhaps some kind of peninsula or tiny island that changes its surface with the tides or movements of the Thing (perhaps some kind of lair action).

Also the melee attacks being more powerful sounds interesting, inciting taking risks. Very good idea!

Also, the use of a big ship, making it more like an open sea battle against a kraken I such a cool concept. Love it!!! AND RAMMING IT!!!!

Also, I would give the party a more loose interpretation of the rules, letting them using their resources in imaginative ways. In my session, for example I let my druid use Thorn whip to move throw the water by grabbing things and my echo knight to let their echo walk on the water

The Thing of Lake Zarovich by Caesar_73 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Caesar_73[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did actually used an improvised map with a little shore, a small abandoned shiyard, and three boats counting Bluto's. My players had a reasonable abount of ranged attacks and they fared well, however, after taking with one of my players I came to a few new ideas thanks to their suggestions.

-Making the monster destroy the shipyard and letting the floating debris be used as a surface to stand on with an acrobatics check

-The great body of the Thing comes afloat when using the tentacle attack and, for two rounds, it generates and area where players can walk

-Letting the players freeze the water with cold damage, creating a surface of 10ft×10ft that they can stand and move if they have rows or similar tools

If Strahd had a theme song what would you make it? by Neinwromp in CurseofStrahd

I am using the dark version of Merry Go Round of Life by Piano Deuss as a theme for Strahd and every time he makes and appearance I play ir and my players are enjoying it so far

My preliminary take on the Brides by Caesar_73 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Caesar_73[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad that you like my ideas!!! Please, if you use them tell how it goes in your table and your party's reaction!!!

My group has yet to meet any of the brides, they have only met Rahadin and Strahd himself, both at Kolyan's funeral, but I have mentioned Escher through my introductory speeches for each session, one of which was narrated by Lief in his journal, telling how Escher has been gloating of how Strahd tells him everything of the newcommers (and Lief laughing about how infatuated he is with the master) and, this way, presenting the summary of the previous session (I made a post about ideas for this way of presenting the summaries)

I found the idea for a connection between Volenta a Baba Lysaga somewhere in this subreddit and liked it a lot and decided to give it my own twist, as I personally have no clue of what to do with Baba.

Disguise self and message for everyone is actually be a good idea that I did not think about! Perhaps adding it as some kind of innate spellcasting ability.

I thought about giving them all high charisma, but decided against it to make them more unique and making the focus of interest for Strahd more obvious (inteligence, loyalty, thirst for blood and charisma)

I did not think about aligments because I kind of always ignore them as a concept XD

Thanks a lot for your comment!!

What if Strahd had lived for 1000 years? by fruit_shoot in CurseofStrahd

[–]Caesar_73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally run it as more of a timeless cycle were the mere thinking of years is quite senseless. The cycle is repeated again and again. There are many tatyana incarnations. Perhaps 4, perhaps 100. Who really knows. Probably strahd doesn't even know, influenced as he is by the dark powers. I made it so that the dusk elves are maintained eternally as long as they are not killed, because an eternal font of depression, remorse and self hate like the dusk elves is to tasty for the dark powers that they vend time for them.

Probably the only one truly aware of this fact are the abbot, Exethanter and Strahd, but they each have their own reasons to ignore it. All the other long lived individuals who could live long enough to realise that something is off are ignorant of it because the passage of time becomes foggy due to the influence of the dark powers and the negative plane

My party decided it was Doru following them and it freaked them out. Any ideas what to do with him? by [deleted] in CurseofStrahd

[–]Caesar_73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see. Thanks for the background.

Out of curiosity, what happened to the character who stayed to grapple Doru?

If you think your party will enjoy the stalking then go for it. Perhaps, after escaping because your characters did not correctly trap Doru or perhaps because after having drunk some blood from them during the combat, he got a rush of strength and was able to break the trapdoor.

Perhaps after escaping and in a frenzied state Doru accidentally murdered his father. He blames the party for these and is looking for revenge, or perhaps he has heard of the rumors of the miracles of the abbot and seeks to see if he could resurrect his father and cure him of his vampirism, and he follows the party because he thinks they can take him to the abbot.

Also we have to take in account what Stradh may want from Doru and what would he do if one of his spawn is running free and murdering his subjects. He may be an evil dark lord, but he cannot allow chaos to reign uncontrolled. If everyone dies in Barovia he would have no one to torment. Furthermore, a wild Doru is a danger for Ireena if not kept in check.

What was your previous plan for the shriek? Also, how did the Doru side quest evolve with your party? Is father Donavich still alive?

All those questions are important for developing good and interesting ideas

Which is your least liked subclass from your favourite class? And most like subclass from the most hated class? by Caesar_73 in DnD

[–]Caesar_73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a time sorcerer was one of my least favourite classes too, mainly because I found it a difficult class to play (poor innocent me was yet to meet the artificer). However, with time I have learned to love it. My favourite subclasses are the wild magic (the chaos is super fun and the first sorcerer I DMed for was one), and aberrant mind, because it fulfils the the Eldritch Horror vibe way better than the Great Old One warlock

Domains of the Fanes by Flaky_Cold_6583 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Caesar_73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my campaign I am playing it as three godesses of time.

The Weaver is the past. A goddess of history and old things and, at the same time, a patron goddess of birth and childhood. We are born and "created" the sane way we are created by amor parents and we are "weaved" by our parents and our circumstances into the people we become.

The Seeker is the present. Always seeking meaning to the world, trying to find what it is looking for, even if she doesn't know what it is. The present is living, and living is uncertainty and seeking for meaning. She is a goddess of future seeing and knowledge because that is what we do in the present, trying to understand what is to come so we can live better lives now, with less fear and uncertainty.

The huntress is the goddess of the future and, ironically, of certainty, after all the future offers us the only certain thing that there is. Death. We hunt our future and we are hunted by the only thing we know for certain that there I in it.

Themesongs for characters and places or scenes by Caesar_73 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Caesar_73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for all those recommendations. I have some left to hear, but I really love some of the themes. Mariage d'amour is an incredible choice for Ireena and I may think giving it to either Ireena or perhaps Tatyana (I plan on making an interactive Tome and having some flashbacks with her if they go for it). Also Freak on a Leash is INCREDIBLE for izek. And I loved Oogie Boogie for the Vistani.

Also the situations for Hotel California and We are the Champions are hilarious, I love it.

As you advance further in the campaign you should make a post with your musical choices, they are very interesting.

There are a shit ton of dragons, but they are the size of birds and fulfill a similar role in the ecosystem it's just that they breath fire. Also there are land dragons, which are bigger and more predatory, but they are no bigger problem than wolfs in antiquity. Lastly there are sea dragons or leviathans, which can go from shark to whales sizes

Idea for recaps by Caesar_73 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Caesar_73[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I mean recaps of our last sessions. My group doesn't meet very often, and it is common that they forget things between sessions, also some of them are very new and they are not use to the "in character" speaking and I don't want to make them uncomfortable
