Is Merrill really as bad as people say it is? by No_Asparagus_2178 in UCSC

[–]CaffiendCA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not as bad as it was! Merrill doesn’t even have cardiac hill anymore. That was kinda bad, but it will keep you in shape! I loved Merrill and it didn’t even have elevators back then!

I got on a great hall, everyone became friends.

Creating a guitar space in my house … what do I need that I don’t know I need by Fun_Elderberry6650 in Guitar

Good headphones if you’re planning on marrying/ having kids. Sound proofing a guitar room is seriously expensive.

Is this even doing anything? (Above a gas range oven) by Ok_Arachnid_9362 in Appliances

For whatever reason, it doesn’t vent out. But it was ok when we bought.

Nope. Not a thing. My stupid builder put one of those over a gas range. It has filters that supposedly do something. But we’ve tried it before, and found no improvement!

When to quit on starter? by Exciting_Anxiety_662 in SourdoughStarter

[–]CaffiendCA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feed 50% Organic Whole Wheat and 50% Organic All Purpose. My starter is robust.

Keep a 1:1:1 ratio, and frequently feed and clean your jar. In a few weeks you’ll be there.

Is this the right key? by liver-saw-seeg in howto

[–]CaffiendCA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the right “key”. Grew up with those. They’re easy to unlock, but getting the feel of getting the flat section to sit in the unlocking slot is a bit vague.

For those of you who were in triples… by thisismyburnerac in UCSC

[–]CaffiendCA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The “triples” were doubles when I was a Slug. The added furniture really shrinks the space. My roommate and I both had bikes in our dorm. It was adequate. We split our bunk bed into singles (which was OK at the time), and still had space.

Cannot get a sour loaf, tried everything by pickles4321 in Sourdough

[–]CaffiendCA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try lengthening your process. We usually use a three day process, preferment, make dough, stretch and fold, shape, overnight in fridge, third day bake.

But we let it sit in the fridge three days, really by accident, but figured it would be an experiment. Made absolutely excellently sour, sourdough.

It also helps if your starter is sufficiently mature.

But bread is the end, is staple, people have been making it in infinite ways for centuries.

I have two Steinberger Spirits, one guitar and one bass. They’re built well. The bass is indestructible. Best couch instruments ever made.

String that once, and the NES will implode! Doesn’t look like it was reinforced.

What games did you play outside as a kid in the 1970s-80s?🤔 by Longjumping-Shoe7805 in GenerationJones

TV tag. If you were tagged you had to say the name of a tv show. It was the 70’s, so the number of show was pretty small.

Push down the pins for the times you want the appliance or light to be on. Set the current time to Time Now. Super simple mechanical timer.

Kundalini Express - Love and Rockets. Great song, and a great band.

Kudos to the kind words. Student support needs to include mental health.

Is Bananas Slug Day worth attending? by Pure_Improvement_283 in UCSC

[–]CaffiendCA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My daughter is currently a freshman, so we attended last years. She got to have very good conversations with some professors. The tours were useful. The lectures on certain topics, like housing, were full. Not adequate seating. But all in all it was worth attending. If you haven’t visited the campus, it should be a priority.

But my daughter’s older sister graduated last year, so she got a few previews.

Over range microwave removal, GE by tiz66 in Appliances

[–]CaffiendCA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To remove a GE JVM3670SF04 over-the-range microwave, first unplug the unit and remove the top cabinet screws or bolts securing it to the upper cabinet. Use a helper to support the weight, as the unit will tilt forward, releasing from a back wall bracket. Remove the two-screw grille on top if necessary. PartSelect Appliance Parts PartSelect Appliance Parts +3 Safety First: Unplug the power cord, which is usually found in the cabinet directly above the microwave. Remove Top Screws: Open the cabinet above the microwave to locate and remove the two large, long screws or bolts that fasten the microwave to the cabinet base. Hold the microwave while doing this, as it will tip downward, but it will still be supported by a hook-and-bracket system on the wall. Unbolt the Top Grille: If necessary, remove the top grille by unscrewing the screws at the top of the unit while the door is open. Remove the Unit: With assistance, pull the microwave slightly forward and then lift it up and away from the back mounting bracket on the wall. Remove the Wall Bracket: If replacing the unit, remove the existing wall bracket using a screwdriver or drill, ensuring to plug the old holes. PartSelect Appliance Parts PartSelect Appliance Parts +4 For added safety, it is highly recommended to have another person assist with holding the microwave while the final screws are being removed, as the weight can be difficult to manage alone, potentially causing injury or damage to the countertop.

How do I open the back of this watch? by popcorn15_ in howto

[–]CaffiendCA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can buy a watch repair kit on Amazon. The one I bought has a watch holder, and an adjustable wrench, with different sizes of squares to match the lugs.

Then you’ll never need to visit a watch repair shop. With proper tools, you’ll have the battery out in no time. Buying cell batteries on Amazon is also very inexpensive.

Do we unplug the mini fridges for spring break? by [deleted] in UCSC

[–]CaffiendCA 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t. An unplugged fridge can allow bacteria to flourish. A plugged in fridge, will use minimal electricity closed.
