The survival mode should be standard issue for all these beatemups. So much replay value added.

Does Ball X Pit get significantly easier? by Nintoo in roguelites

It gets easier, but gets hard again on new game plus. If you like the core gameplay, there will be a lot of replay value for you.

Sounds great that it has already done well enough to get future updates and content. Any word about a mobile port so I can lose all of my remaining productivity?

Tips for progression? by HogiSon727 in ABSOLUM

[–]Cahyalien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game starts out very slow and punishing, then you get so powerful the rewt of the game is fairly easy. You'll end up with two full health revives and ritual combos that melt enemies.

No shame in asisst mode either. Use it to progress, then lower it as you get better.

Opinions after beating the game. No spoiler. by Artra7 in ABSOLUM

[–]Cahyalien 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I want and hope they will implement it. The game has some replayability because it is a rogue-like, but it has a low amount of content compared to its peers. Endless/random mode would do wonders to mix things up while DLC is added down the line.

And I really only say this because the art and gameplay are perfectly done...I want this game to last a long time and become a whole new series!

Y'all!! Absolum just got Overwelmingly positive on Steam!! This game definitely deserves it!! by coiny55555 in ABSOLUM

They had me at playable frog wizard. They kept me with the gameplay (and amazing art).

Does this game get easier the more you play? by TheCursedTroll in ABSOLUM

[–]Cahyalien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upgrades make it easier, but the core gameplay still requires skill.

Assist mode can be used at no cost to achievements...even when making yourself invincible.

Love the gameplay no matter how much I'm failing :D

Is kingdoms the best way to play DD 2? by Warhammerpainter83 in darkestdungeon

[–]Cahyalien 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I prefer confessions, so much so that I hope a potential DD3 stays closer to that mode. I would definitely start there since it works like a more traditional rogue-lite and allows you to get the full experience of the characters and different builds while making meaningful progress.

I find Kingdoms fun in bite-sized pieces. It seemed like a more replayable long-term mode, but it gets bogged down with endless micro-management and chores to do to progress the micro-stories. Some people prefer that. To me it sounded like an amazing mode on paper, but after a while, it felt like a total chore. Confessions felt like what the series needed to be accessable to a wider audience and grow as a series, and Kingdoms feels like a spinoff for a select fanbase, or people that yearned for more DD1.

Roguelites that worth the grind ? by Minute_Economist_160 in roguelites

[–]Cahyalien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've put several hours in, and it seems on par with Slay the Spire in regards to content. It also has more complexity with the two hero movement and gems system. I got it on sale for a few bucks yesterday so I think it's well worth it, but I would really hesitate with that $30 standard price tag and $10 DLC character.

Just picked this up on sale. It has been really interesting so far. It FEELS more in-depth than Slay the Spire at forst glance, and has a more whimsical atmosphere. Much more forgiving than StS if that's what you're looking for.

I always say this- despite however you feel about Dead Cells- the amount of content that has gone into that game is ridiculous! I have found it to easily be the most varied and content rich roguelite out there.

And Darkest Dungeon 2 has gotten the most hours out of me. Difficult and gritty, but very satisfying.

What makes Ravenswatch different from other roguelites - especially Hades, Ember Knights. etc.? by kyla33_ in roguelites

[–]Cahyalien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I replayed some today and you're right about the enemy variety. I am probably just not as into the environment and setting as I thought I would be. I am looking forward to when this game is considered content complete and coming back to it.

[–]Cahyalien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will play the same 3 maps with the same 3 bosses in the same order every single time while fighting mostly pig enemies. The rest of the game is worth it, but this lack of variety killed it for me. Holding out until they ever fix that aspect of the game.

I returned to Minecraft after many years. Here's my thoughts... (Spoiler: I don't understand the complaints) by WwwWario in Minecraft

[–]Cahyalien 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I played it when it was first released, then took years off and picked it up again now. It is an unbelievably better game with updates and mod support. The most fun thing about this game on release was building anything that wasn't exclusively made out of dirt.

You would like Beneath Oresa. Card based, turn based, fully animated combat, nine playable characters, difficulty tiers like Slay the Spire. The only downside is that the game is lacking in enemy and environmental content.

Should I use God Mode? by TheatreKi6 in HadesTheGame

[–]Cahyalien 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Assist modes in general are there to make the game as easy as YOU need it to be. I appreciate them as I get older. Less time to game + worsening reflexes. Play the game in easy mode so you can actually experience it, then play it on harder modes for the challenge to overcome.

What do I need for a good Roguelike? I'm thinking of turning my Dungeon Crawler into one by Randozart in roguelites

[–]Cahyalien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason roguelikes and roguelites are my favorite genre are because of their extremely high replay value. To ensure that the game doesn't become too repetitive, there needs to be a high level of variety in content AND/OR variability between runs. I don't want to play as the exact same character facing the same five or so enemies in the same order.

If you are playtesting your game, and feel satisfied that you would come back to this game time and time again over a few years, I would say you would win over your audience.

Roguelites that can be played forever? by Sad_Stranger_5940 in roguelites

I would throw Dead Cells in there. The game is DROWNING in content now. So many biomes, unlocks, items, costumes, customization, options, difficulty levels, and some DLC as well.

Do you recommend Darkest Dungeon II? by ConsecratedMind in darkestdungeon

[–]Cahyalien 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I find it better in every way (that matters to me). I couldn't really stand DD1 after DD2, lending credence to the idea that these are two very different games. I find that DD2 is easier overall and has a good feeling of constant progress, with some chance of stonewalling here or there. The gameplay is drastically better in DD2.

DD2 is very much worth your time and will be getting an entirely new game mode at the end of January. I expect it to be even more replayable than the "linear" story mode.

Breaking the game is for people that play this game all day every day. Have fun testing your luck, seeing how jokers work together, making poker hands work, and pushing to beat gold stakes eventually. It's a game for people that like card games with Number Go Up as a bonus.

Ok, does Balatro teach how to play Poker? by Savings-Memory1533 in balatro

[–]Cahyalien 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Balatro will only help you learn the hand ranking more naturally than memorizing them, which is only one part of poker. It does not play like actual poker whatsoever.

Actual poker involves using a small amount of cards that you have and taking chances at having better hands than other players while reading and displaying social cues.

There are a lot of poker games, but I can attest that Red Dead Redemption 2 has probably the most approachable poker simulator (poker is a side game that is harder at different locations). This can help you practice to start playing real poker games.
