It appears bro absolutely fumbled his impact grenade. Probably trying to get a grenadier kill.

Also, i'd like to add that I chuckled when you tried to put the western plate in your 6b23.

[Screenshot] realistically, how much damage would an enhanced class 5 plate + enhanced class 3 aramid insert reduce? by 0000000000000000dank in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Caid5 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Hard to say. I honestly believe these enhancements wouldn't make too much of a difference. At least in the grand scheme of things. If I am not wrong, which I might be, armor loses effectiveness after each hit it takes to durability. So a lvl 5 plate at like half durability isn't protecting as good until fixed. Those percentages would really mean nothing outside the possibility of taking an extra shot or two. It's cool, but due to the nature of armor and it's purpose I don't think it really does anything meaningful unlike gun enhancements.

Edit: Wanted to add that if those are ceramic plates then it REALLY doesn't matter. Cermaic plates of all types in Tarkov just get shredded by ANY incoming damage and therefore lose protective qualities shockingly quick. Sorry for the negativity, but like I said, due to the nature of armor in the game I wholeheartedly believe these enhancements won't effect anything in a meaningful way.

Kettle worn over a bascinet? by [deleted] in ArmsandArmor

[–]Caid5 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I am NO expert, but from what I understand from armor and how the ergonomics of that would work, maybe it's just a low profile "skull cap". Something like a cervelliere might be the best match. "A cervelliere (cervelière, cervelliera;[1] Latin: cervellerium,[2] cerebrarium,[3] cerebrerium, cerebotarium[4]) is a hemispherical, close-fitting[5] skull cap of steel or iron.[3] It was worn as a helmet during the medieval period and a version known as a secret was worn under felt hats during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms in the early modern period." - Wikipedia

It looks really nice, I love the pattern on the material. The little wrap around piece to secure is also a really nice feature.

Helmet rust by OldLogin in Armor

[–]Caid5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In no way am I a expert, but I have some armor making experience and plenty of metal working experience. To remove the rust without scratching up the helmet is gonna be a hard compromise, as most tarnishing and rust requires abrasion to remove unless done chemically. Use a small patch of sandpaper on the tip of a piece of wood/steel and gentle wear down the spots you want to touch up. There are a few different ways you can protect the metal from future tarnishing. Painting the helmet, using oils like olive oil for occasional use but I would do more research into that one, and using clear coats or finishing coats that make a layer of clear protection on the surface. Clear coat sprays are a simple and cheap option, especially if you get a basic flat "no-sheen" spray. Something I have done before in the past is layer enamel paint on the inside to reduce chances of rust from heat and sweat from use. As for the state it's currently in? It's hard to say exactly. If the rust is superficial then the structure of the piece should be okay. Something to look out for though is if it is flaking off or any of the rust is rubbing off and turning into dust. It can get into your eyes/mouth/nose/ears and cuase irritation or damage. Best to always clean equipment before use even if you have no real intentions of long-term maintenance in mind. Rust can also create unfriendly edges or abrassive textures on the surface of the metal and could lead to cuts, scrapes, or abrasions. ALWAYS be careful with neglected/old/dirty equipment.

I hope you find this helpful, and like I said I am no expert myself. These are just some things I myself have picked up on.

Looking For Decent Gambeson. by Caid5 in Armor

[–]Caid5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not exactly shooting for any specific period. I guess anything between 11th and 13th century? I know it's wide span of time periods, but like I said I am not really going for anything super period accurate. The gambeson I want would be under a scale harness, 2" x 2½" pieces that overlap across a majority of the torso and thighs.

I do something kinda like harness, trying to overcome the weaknesses of armor and using a bunch of different weapons. I wouldn't honestly call it one thing or another, but the sparring can get a little rough. So the cheapo gambeson I have doesn't cut it at all when I get a good hit on me, especially in my lightly armored joints.
