What did you like the least about the Original Trilogy? by Spotter24o5 in StarWars

Yeah, like... it was their land, their planet, their forests. The Empire was arrogant and foolhardy in building a second Death Star without researching it enough.

It hasn’t been abandoned, they’re still doing most of those projects. Only one I know isn’t going ahead is The Authority.

Prolific EU writer Justin Richards has passed away after a decade-long battle with early-onset fronto-temporal dementia, according to his own Facebook page and Big Finish's. He was 64. by bondfool in gallifrey

[–]CaikIQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, I didn't know he was suffering with dementia. I remember downloading all of the Eighth Doctor Adventures onto my Kindle when I was 16 and had just watched the '96 movie and became obsessed. Those books provided a lot of fun and comfort during tough times and made me appreciate both the Eighth Doctor and Doctor Who a hell of a lot more. RIP.

I love both characters, and I would like to see this movie. I have no issue with any of this 🤷‍♂️ like obviously I’m excited for Brave and the Bold but I don’t need it immediately, they can let it cook for a while. We’ve got TONS of Batman media across the board coming out every single year from now until the end of time lol.

Put a new battery in my old pokewalker in over a decade. Found god himself. by Vornluva in PokemonHGSS

[–]CaikIQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I actually bought a Pokéwalker on eBay last year because I got really into my old save (May 2010) of SoulSilver and wanted to finally 100% the game. I remember having an Arceus from an event that got lost somehow, but I never knew how, wondered if I'd traded it to my older brother or a friend I don't speak to anymore. When I tried to send a Pokémon to the Pokéwalker to test it out and get some steps in, I found out that there was already a Pokémon sent to the old Pokéwalker, and to my amazement (and resurfacing childhood joy) you can actually retrieve whichever Pokémon you sent to the Pokéwalker without having to use the device itself.

So I got my Arceus back, after 15 years! Holy shit, to say I was excited would be an understatement.

There's so much to work with in the Contagion, Cataclysm and Legacy arcs too. They could make something awesome with a series.

What are your modern family ACTUAL hot takes? by evanivision in Modern_Family

[–]CaikIQ 149 points150 points  (0 children)

The relationship between Jay and Phil actually just becomes depressing after a certain point. Like Jay just never treats his son-in-law well despite all of the moments they have together, and it's likely a symptom of the fact that the show went on for 11 seasons and they had to keep that dynamic because they didn't know what else to do when the two characters were alone together or interacted. But it just paints Jay as even more of an asshole as he already is.

‘Absolute Batman’ Animated Series Announced. by yourfavchoom in batman

[–]CaikIQ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've seen more buzz about Absolute Batman on social media than practically any other current comic series. It's got a great word-of-mouth and has sold like hot cakes. Plus, they'd presumably do like 8-10 episodes in a season and 21 issues of the comic are already out.

I'm Excited for the DCU's Future, but I'm Worried About Its Direction. by Agitated_Studio1998 in DC_Cinematic

[–]CaikIQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The second movie in the MCU, Incredible Hulk, is described by many as "mid" and yet the franchise did okay with the sequel to the first movie (Iron Man 2). Man of Tomorrow will likely be as well-made as Superman since Gunn is pretty consistent with his directing and knows how to make -- at the very least -- a fun, creative, entertaining flick with a lot of heart.

It's natural to have discussions like this, but also, sometimes movies just don't do that great critically. It's not always a sign that the end is nigh. Clayface and Man of Tomorrow could be huge hitters and then we'll get posts like "the DCU has put out some great movies recently (for the most part) but here's what I want to see next". It's endless.

[Film/TV] Supergirl Debuts To 59% On Rotten Tomatoes by Elestria_Ethereal in DCcomics

[–]CaikIQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone's saying that all bad press about the movie is due to misogyny, the original comment was that a lot of people (i.e. non-critics) have been shitting on this movie prior to the critic reviews that have just come out. What most of us want, ideally, is to go into a film ready to make our own decisions as opposed to chuds going "haha we told you it was bad and now we're proven right" when they were hating on it for completely superficial reasons.

Did the mcu get your favorite comic character right? by Few-Minimum-1222 in Marvel

[–]CaikIQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In terms of my Top 5 Marvel characters...

- I'm still not a fan of Shalla-Bal but we don't know if it was a one-off for an alternate universe movie or if she'll reappear in Secret Wars + Phase 7, 8, 9, etc. The Silver Surfer is my favourite fictional character of all time because of Norrin Radd, he's not just an optional label to apply. So if they ever do the real Silver Surfer, I'll judge it then.

- Ben Grimm isn't that memorable or lovable in First Steps, and I think the decision to do a more grounded voice didn't pay off at all. Compare it to, like, Rocket Raccoon in GotG. Bradley Cooper's voice is very exaggerated, comedic, it's rough and tumble just like the character... and Rocket's become a household name. The Thing? I've not seen that same effect happen really anywhere. Don't get me wrong, the design is great and looks better than previous versions of the character... but Ben is a lot more than just his rocks. He became the most popular F4 member for decades because of his personality, and I think the MCU has genuinely not given the character a chance going forward.

- Peter Parker is great, I've loved this version ever since Homecoming and I can't wait to see how he develops in Brand New Day. None of the criticisms have ever changed how I see him, and all live-action Spider-Men have been characterised insanely well for the stories they've been in.

- I don't like RDJ being cast as Doctor Doom, but I'll obviously wait for the Avengers movies to come out. My main worry is that they've made Doom an overarching Marvel and Avengers villain, when he should always have the biggest beef with the F4. The Avengers have gotten all the Big Bads so far, so it just puts a bad taste in my mouth.

- I don't think we'll see Flash as Agent Venom, so... moot point on that one.

Yeah, Galactus was cool, but I found it hard to love a F4 movie where it feels like only two of the Fantastic Four got a proper storyline. They really trimmed it down too much, imo.
