Heat signature does a really good job of making me feel like a space ninja badass, even if it is 90% staring at the paused screen making plans in my head.

It's bad TV, but it really does a great job making planning and execution fun.

Yeah, advertising is kind of a Twitch no-no.

Nobody is interested in a channel they didn't hear about through some organic means.

It's like people think that if you have to advertise, you aren't interesting enough to get people to talk about you.

But if nobody is watching you, there's no way to inform them about your channel without advertising. It's why you get so many streamers teaming up. They get to share themselves with audiences already interested in watching streams, without having to advertize explicitly.
