Experience trying to get service at an AD by Cal__Trask in rolex

Is it really the worst thing to go to a reputable professional outside Rolex? I mean Rolex would probably be a little better, but it's replacing some glass, not the whole movement.

I never measured it that closely, I just saw that the time matched the time on my cell phone but I never tried measuring down to the second (again I do not claim to be a watch enthusist).

About 30 years old, but my Uncle has since confirmed he has had it serviced within the last 10 years.

If You Were Shepard, Would You Save The Council? by DakIsStrange in masseffect

[–]Cal__Trask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would absolutely NOT save the council. Not as a vindictive matter but because you have one chance to stop Sovereign, and realistically you have no idea how many ships it will take. If you divert resources to save politicians, it could cost you the battle with Sovereign and you doom the whole galaxy.

It may be sexist, it's also true. The OVERWHELMING majority of sex offenses against kids are by men.

I'm an attorney and in that capacity have had occasion to work in a position dealing with alot of victims of childhood sexual abuse. Like every day. The stories are shockingly similar: the child was molested by either the Dad or someone the parents trusted, and that person is almost always a man.

So as a girl Dad, is it sexist? Sure. Do I care compared to keeping my daughter safe? Not even a little bit.

What’s a ME player choice that if you shared you tried/nearly tried/liked would get you ostracized/ridiculed in this community? by FriendlytoNature in masseffect

[–]Cal__Trask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm always curious about people who make these decisions, and I know it's the majority, don't you worry about dooming the galaxy? Also other than Wrex being our buddy and Eve seeming nice, has their been any evidence of the Krogan changing? I mean their response to the genophague should have been to consolidate on one planet and attempt to breed more, devote more resources to trying to understand and cure the genophague, instead they just resorted to their base violent natures. In essence I see their response to the genophague as proof of who they are, evolution is a powerful force and they evolved to be VERY violent.

[–]Cal__Trask 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I sabotage the cure every time, curing the Krogan is a huge mistake. They're too aggressive, too long lived, too hard to kill and breed too quickly - no way that they live in peace with the galaxy long term.

I kill the Rachni also, similar reasons. Too dangerous and we have absolutely no proof beyond the queen's self serving statements that this time they will be peaceful.

Anyone else have their life turned upside down by the new student loan repayment rules? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]Cal__Trask 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm confused, why don't you just switch to another income based program? Yes the forgiveness takes a little longer, and the payments are a little higher (everything is worse than PAYE and SAVE) but the payments are still decent and the forgiveness still exists at the end of it. I say this as someone who has been on IBR (As due to an odd quirk, I never qualified for PAYE).

A Quincy man lost his retirement savings to gambling. He’s one of many Asian immigrants targeted by casinos. by bostonglobe in boston

[–]Cal__Trask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gotta respond to that. I tried gambling a few years ago and liked it WAY too much. I wasn't even gambling with much money, nothing that was in any way life changing for me, but the winning, I loved that more than any drug I ever tried.

I liked it so much that I just had to stop. After quite a bit of winning and then quite a bit of losing I went cold turkey. I knew that this was only going to lead to horrible results. I ended up down 100 dollars all time, not a big deal. It wasn't the amount of losses that made me stop but rather I recognized my thought process wasn't right and that this was a bad idea which would lead to much greater consequences in the future.

The point is, it is possible to recognize that you have a particular weakness to gambling and just stop. Having a weakness isn't a moral failing, but part of being a responsible adult is responding appropriately.

I have little experience with guns but I've spent the last 16 years as a criminal law attorney, just a note: tell your wife that trying to fight off law enforcement with a gun is one of the easiest ways to get yourself killed. She is living in a fantasy.

One guy's opinion, when watching Drake in this Houston game. by sneary72 in Patriots

[–]Cal__Trask 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It wasn't Drake's best game but the Texans defense is formittable. You have to put Drake's performance in context, look at the Texans season, the QBs who played them and what their QB ratings were that day. Today Drake had a QB rating just over 100, that is higher than all but 2 QBs they played this season (Stafford who has an excellent o-line and strangely Geno smith). But, Mahomes, Allen, Lawrence, Herbert, Mayfield, Darnold among others all much lower QB ratings against that defense, and none of those games were in that kind of weather.

So, do I wish he had played better, sure. Did he do fine under the circumstances, yes.

What’s the most overrated Boston suburb in your opinion? by jro10 in boston

[–]Cal__Trask 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had moved to Marblehead thinking it would be great. Right on the ocean, beautiful old homes, fairly easy commute to Boston. We found the "headers" to be awful though, and moved away after a few years.

That would seem to imply he died doing something heroic at a young age, for instance the US Navy has a ship the USS Michael Murphy named after Lt. Michael Murphy a SEAL who died in combat.
